Visited this hotel as it was assigned for an infamous Stay To Play Hockey Tournament…read more
At first perception, the hotel is quite nice. We checked in on a Thursday. Everything was very clean, check in was a breeze and early, and they've got quite a few nice spaces for gatherings and such. The rooms are HUGE and exceptionally appointed. The beds and bedding are A++++. The bathroom and shower were among the best I've had in a hotel. There's also a really great non-affiliated coffee shop and restaurant on the opposite end of the building.
As the weekend went on we came to find out that there are things a hotel can manage and consistently do great, there are other things that need constant oversight from management, and there's some other things the hotel just can't help but deal with.
What it has the deal with (and you in turn): This hotel shares a parking lot with some sort of Affordable Housing Project, and shares property lines with a run-down apartment complex too. The riff-raff coming and going is non-stop. Police were there often, crazy folks meander and cut through the parking lot at all hours. Frankly, it wasn't safe to send a bunch of kids out to after hours.
Being in a rough area, and immediately next to a large hospital, there are lights and sirens consistently going and coming passed the hotel. If you're a light sleeper and have to stay here, ask to be on the non-road side of the hotel (the one that overlooks the awful complexes.
What needs constant supervision: a lot of the staff here are not great. I met some great and very friendly housekeepers, the person who checked me in was great, but everyone else maintained the level of customer service reminiscent of a convenience store. It seemed clear that management must take the weekend off. The staff here were WAY to comfortable (e.g. smoking right outside the lobby doors, arguing with guests, seemingly not caring).
What could be fixed immediately: The exterior grounds are gross. I parked outside the breakfast area, near the handicap parking. After everyone got out I immediately spotted an uncapped hypodermic needle in some shrubbery. Looking around more, I found a nearly spent THC vape, and noticed there was just a ton of debris and garage all over.
I immediately gathered the needle and threw it away, then figured I'd get the attention of the staff by bringing the vape in. I showed the front desk and let her know what else was out there. I asked her to have someone go through the lot and clean it up to make sure there were no more needles. The employee asked me to show her where everything was found. I did this. By time I checked out a day later, nothing had been cleaned up, like at all.
Another gripe I had was the non-guests. Each day we were here, we noticed residents from next door who were coming in to enjoy breakfast. I figured this was something they were okay with because the breakfast employee knew one of them by name and what they liked. One of the frail ladies who came in piled her plate high with food and made herself as home in the breakfast area before eventually leaving back to her place.
There were multiple occasions when residents from the nearby complex were loitering on the hotel's property. Usually they'd been sitting along the fence and smoking weed. Imagine the mindset of those, who can't smoke weed on their own property, so they go to a nice hotel property and smoke right in front of kids, meanwhile, this all happens in front of employees who do nothing about it.
Lastly, in 2026, this hotel is still not cleaning rooms daily. We came to find this out, and asking the front desk for extra towels at night is like asking the girl for her kidney.
The hotel's management is certainly not doing great here. The place also needs to hire some proactive security and find more friendly employees.
