The food was great and the vibes were very chill. Great place for a drink or food. The service was good.

Friendly bustling pub. Morris/Maurice runs the place and was very friendly. He also makes great cocktails. Highly recommend!

Really like the atmosphere in this pub. Friendly staff and a real fire down the back. It's also a restaurant although we didn't eat.

On our first visit to the quaint, beautiful town of Kenmare, we stumbled on the Purple Heather Bistro. On our second visit, we made a point of returning. The Purple Heather is Irish pub at its best. The ambiance is cozy, with dark woods, low lighting, intimate booths and tables, and Irish memorabilia tucked into corners and stored on fireplace mantles. As in most pubs, a peat fire crackles away with its sweet, smoky aroma. The food is delicious at Purple Heather. We love their soups, especially, which are all homemade and served with the usual Irish brown bread. Purple Heather's brown bread is wonderful: dense, moist, nutty, chewy. Everything you want from brown bread! It makes a perfect soup sopper -- the vegetable soup is a savory, salty puree of a number of veggies. The Irish stew is thick and loaded with cubes of tender lamb, potatoes and carrots. Everything comes "Ireland hot," as we've dubbed it: piping, steaming hot! I happen to love it that way. Sandwiches are also great, with a better variety than you'll find at most pubs. Having a nice sandwich half to dunk in your soup or stew is a great bonus. Tucked away on a side street, you could almost miss the Bistro. But making the effort to locate it will be well worth your time!

Our son and daughter had the pork and fish and chips. Great wine and beer selection. Service was awesome and felt like a family restaurant. They also had local music, which was wonderful. I think it's best to make reservations just FYI. I ordered 6 natural oysters for 12€. They were fresh and perfectly salty. Definitely worth the $$. We also ordered a beer 4€ and glass of Chardonnay 6.50€. I ordered the sea bass and my friend order the roasted pork. My sea bass was two smaller fish on top of a squash purée and served with a side of boiled potatoes with dill, carrots and a pickled red cabbage (I think). It was very good and filling. The pork roast was very tender. It was served with mash potatoes and a side of apple sauce. Both dishes were lovely. The decor was very trendy and sea inspired. Very cool that the owners based the restaurant on the Irish explorer Tom Crean who came from Kerry. He was a great Antarctic explorer during the early 1900s. I felt welcomed even though it was a fancy restaurant and I had my Havaianas on my feet. People started streaming in and were dressed up. The servers were very tentative and sweet. It would be a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. They also have an early bird special before 6:30pm that read 2 course meal for 21€ (would be great if that included a house beer or wine). Overall, great little place for a fancier dinner. Definitely go for the oysters! The seafood was delicious.
