What I received was a rack of cut ribs in a tray covered in sauce. A short time later I decided to try the ribs while they were still warm. What I discovered was that the bark on the top side of the rib to be burnt. I fought to chew through them because I was pretty hungry. That explains why the burnt ribs were sold to me covered in sauce and not as I ordered. There was some meat on the underside of that rib that I was able to consume. I called the carry out restaurant and spoke to the owner and advised him of my experience. I asked him why my order was covered in sauce and not as I ordered them. I also told him that I believe the sauce was meant to cover up the burnt bark, He disagreed with my opinion and told me to return the uneaten ribs and that he would refund the cost of what I hadn't consumed. I was not about to drive from Lancaster into the city to return a 1/3 rack of ribs, that didn't make sense to me. Normally, I wouldn't care, but the ribs were very expensive at $42.00. Just want to let other folks know to check their order before leaving the establishment. UBBQ4me NO MORE!

I saturated it in the hot BBQ sauce. The sauce was thick, spicy but in a balanced, not overpowering way. The beans were thick, almost pasty, but good. The greens were my least favorite and I assume cooked by someone who doesn't understand the soul importance of this soul food staple, known as greens. BBQ not in the southern sense but it's a great thing... Chiavetta's is a vinegary tang (with apple cider vinegar) and some mysterious spices (pepper and garlic for sure). For those of you who can't get to one of the events as described... Chiavetta's has a take out place near Lockport...chicken and ribs with assorted sides like mac n cheese, baked beans, and a really good potato salad. Pretty unassuming place (they also do catering and will do the BBQ fundraisers for you) right off Transit Road (Route 78). There isn't really much of a reason to go to Lockport unless you are heading up to Lake Ontario, but it's not far from Buffalo/Williamsville/Amherst. Good stuff!

All of that was positive. The food was tasty, and we all enjoyed our food. The bad outweighs the good. Our food took a long time. I mean 45 minutes for four people, one being a kids meal. I just had a chicken sandwich and two others had the roast beef sandwich. I ordered fried mushrooms they didn't come out until after my meal when I reminded them that I ordered them (I was kinda hoping for them as an appetizer). My husband asked if the sandwich came with au jus, and the waitress said "no, they are weird about that here". We didn't get horseradish with the sandwiches. It was just a strange experience to get no au jus or horseradish, or the appetizer, and have to wait so long for the meal. I felt like we were inconveniencing them for eating there. The food was good enough that I will most likely try again, but I'm really hoping I'll be able to update my review with a more positive experience.
