My son and I decided to give this place one more try, the first time we came here we ended up leaving because they were busy taking delivery orders, and the same thing happened we sat there over 1 hour. I hate to do this, but the customer service experience was TERRIBLE! As another review mentioned, staff was friendly and took our orders right away, which was promising. Then, they proceeded to spend the next hour plus packing up endless To Go orders and didn't bring out a single serving of food for any of the tables of people sitting in the restaurant- all with people who were already waiting to eat when we had arrived. When numerous parties approached the counter to ask about their food, staff gave excuses and false promises before turning back to packing To Go orders. A Door Dash driver was waiting over an hour along with us and said this place is notorious for ridiculous wait times. In the end, three tables walked out around the same time. They either need more staff- or they need to turn on/off their Door Dash, as needed, to keep the workflow manageable. It doesn't make sense to leave people starving and hangry at your restaurant, when the food is already cooked. Watching heaps of cooked mac and cheese, yams, greens, etc. be scooped from full pans into plastic containers and sent off as we sat there starving for over an hour in their restaurant (over 1.5hrs for other patrons!) added insult to injury. Don't go to Simply Soul for a little snack, or if you want some vegan meal. On the other hand, if you are looking for a MEAL . . . I mean a meal that makes you smile with each bite, and eat slowly because you want it to last, then this is your place. We ordered a 4-piece fried chicken meal and a 2-piece for my family of 3. Each meal came with 2 sides, and when I tell you we all ended up satisfied and full, I speak the truth. The Mac and cheese was wonderfully cheesy. The garlic mashed potatoes were great, the collard greens were legit too! The cornbread is a real treat, cause getting great cornbread this far north is a challenge. Of course, the fried chicken is the star of the show. Perfectly breaded, crispy breading . . . moist and delicious, it makes me want to go back and get more, but I am happily too full to drive. Food was pretty good! I got both fish, greens, cabbage, wings, potato salad, and rice. Everything hit except the potato salad, which shocked me. By the time I got there, a lot of sides were already gone. Customer service was trash though. The big girl had an attitude just because I wanted to order and they still had 40 mins until closing--that was super rude. The other server was nice, so I went ahead and ordered for my family, but the food took almost an hour to come out. Ridiculous. We're from out of town and just wanted some soul food, so we dealt with it. My advice: order ahead! 3 girlfriends and I, while vacationing in Niagara Falls decided to support a black owned establishment and eat at Simply Soul on a Sunday. They close pretty early so we made sure to get there at least 2 hours before closing. The area was a bit sketchy and parking appeared hit or miss however, someone was pulling out as we pulled in. Look at God :) . I digress. We walked in and were greeted and seated right away. This was promising. Our drink and food order was taken promptly. This was getting better and better or so we thought. As we waited, we noticed that the majority of orders being fulfilled were TO GO orders. WTF is happening here??? After almost 45 minutes of us waiting on our meals, a group of 5 elders walked in and were also seated promptly. They had a different waiter and their meals came out in about 35-40 minutes. Double WTF! We've waited 90 minutes and our waiter let the other waiter gank our food!? In the meantime and in between time our waiter kept returning to tell us what foods they were out of, surprise surprise, but never to apologize about the wait or to throw us some complimentary corn bread or water refills! To be honest, at this point, only complimentary corn bread would've soothed the savage hunger beast from within :)))). After becoming increasingly annoyed at the nonchalant-ness of the whole experience. We got tf up, left a few dollars on the table for the one Sprite received almost 2 hours earlier, scoffed at the establishment and left. The only soulful experience you will have at simply soul is there are Simply no gnats flying everywhere! Oh and the water tasted nice and fresh. Otherwise, you may or may not get to eat at all. Our bad! We should have noticed the amount of people NOT eating and just sitting, waiting, or sleeping...lmao. All that said, our waiter had an apple bottom and was wearing yellow crocs. We should have known something wasn't right. Plus, the menu states they charge an automatic 18% gratuity on all orders. Probably cuz the know service is shawty and almost non existent. Since this is about the third time my family has received poor service, I said it was time for a review. The food is decent. I can't even say great because the savory dishes have sugar in them ex: greens and green beans were sweet. That can be overlooked though by just getting different sides. However, having to go and wait for over an hour to get food is ridiculous. Then my mother ordered a to-go plate and sent my son (adult) in to pick it up and he was given an attitude. Now this last time we went in and it was very busy which is understandable. However, to be told to "JUST GO SIT DOWN" when inquiring about the wait time is unacceptable. They need to get more staff if they are overwhelmed and then learn how to talk to people. To speak to someone with a poor, snippy attitude is distasteful when you are trying to spend your money with a business. We walked out and won't be going back. read more

I would highly recommend Simply Soul. We started with the rib ends and they were so good. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was fantastic. For our mains my partner had the crispy chicken sandwich with fries. She loved it and ate every last bite. I had the two piece fried chicken with corn bread, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. The chicken was out of this world. Mac and cheese was delicious and the collard greens were a pleasant surprise. I have never had collard greens before so did not know what to expect. I wasn't disappointed. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were taken care of throughout our meal. To top things off they had a live stream of a minister on while we enjoyed our dinner. The homemade salisbury steak was just as flavorful and delicious the gravy again right there Even after being heated back up because I was so full from the pot roast portions. The only problem I had was that I couldnt have two or three stomachs. There was so much food that I couldn't eat it all. I have lived in the Niagara region for 99% of my life and o will say this is by far the best food in the city of Niagara Falls. I wanna preface this by saying, believe the one star reviews. This is my second visit, first time actually receiving food(the first visit we waited an hour and a half with no food just drinks). I wish i would have took the first visit as a sign. I wanted to support a black owned business so we came back. I received my appetizer,catfish nuggets, 52 minutes after ordering. They tasted absolutely delicious. I cant say the same for any of other food myself and i ordered. The mac and cheese had an overpowering sour cream taste thats all that i could taste, not even the cheese. The greens were extremely sugary, tasted like my yams. The fried chicken looks so delicious but wasn't seasoned; i just cant eat unseasoned chicken. And the mandatory 18% gratuity for non existent service. I just got robbed without a gun.
