Pan de Bono & small hot chocolate
    Jocelyn L.

An outstanding Colombian bakery offering to go services and dine in as well! I have been here a few times not but only to have items from the bakery. The pan de bonos are to die for. They're basically made of dough and cheese & they taste heavenly, when you order you can ask them to be warmed up which makes them even better. I also have gotten their hot chocolate which is so good, not a typical Swiss miss with water that you would get anywhere else, this is a real hot chocolate made with milk & real chocolate (I'm assuming). Definitely worth a try, even if you are just stopping by for a quick bite or if you have more time and want to eat a full meal, I'm sure the food is probably great as well. There is usually a small wait if you go in the morning, but the line moves fast and it's so worth it.

On this gorgeous Friday, it was a day of running errands. After fasting for most of the morning and after checking with my Yelp friends, I came here to this Colombian restaurant/bakery for coffee and a bite to eat in Clifton, NJ. Upon entering, the establishment was divided by the restaurant to the left and the bakery on the right. There were a few patrons enjoying their meal at the restaurant and a 10 min wait for ordering at the bakery. I needed my cup of coffee and decided on a buñuelo and 2 chicken empanadas. Unfortunately the coffee was too watery and wasn't strong. However the chicken empanadas were tasty, but a bit greasy. The buñuelo (cheese fritter) was made from mixture of cassava flour and cornstarch was tasty and a bit greasy. I was amazed that this only came out to $5.60. If you are in the area, give this place a try.

This place is very spacious. I've had empanadas from here and they've been tasty. It's clean and the people are nice here. I had the patacon con pollo and it was really good. I just think it needed a little more pink sauce. The dish had three tostones at the bottom and layered it with chicken and lettuce as well as potato chips. It was topped with this pink sauce that's ketchup and mayo. Their hot salsa was really good with this dish too. Only 9$. Not bad. Could feed two.

I stopped here for takeout. Great service and friendly staff. The baked good are where it's at. I ordered the typical Colombian dish (Bandeja paisa) and it came out pretty good

Arepa de choclo sent for delivery in a paper bag. No container...and cheese in a plastic sandwich bag.

Macondo which is just two blocks away kicks this bakery's ass. Today I decided to DoorDash a cappuccino, arepa de choclo and envuelto de queso. I received envuelto from the fridge. No lie, it was refrigerated and the guy said yeah it was he who sent it that way when I called. AND I also got the arepa de choclo in a paper bag with cheese in a plastic sandwich bag. No container, not even foil just the arepa floating in the bag. So of course the arepa which is made out of corn and you eat with a fork and knife got all messed up in the drive. I called to get my money back and they just don't care the owner isn't there and they are not equipped to make decisions to help the business. They don't even say "let me call the owner" instead they said call back at a later time. Insane. Una falta de respeto a los clientes. There are plenty more Colombian Bakeries and like I said if you want one where they care for the customer goes down to blocks to Macondo.

We were greeted immediately upon entering and made to feel incredibly welcome in such a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The menu is impressive, offering a beautiful selection of everything from breakfast to dinner. I personally loved the blueberry pancakes, and the scrambled eggs were cooked to absolute perfection. My loved one thoroughly enjoyed the chicken scampi; the ingredients were clearly fresh and high-quality. Our only small note for next time would be to request a little extra spice to kick it up a notch, but the flavors were already spot on. A few other highlights: * Cream of Turkey Soup: Absolutely delicious and a must-try! * Reese's Pieces Cheesecake: We ended our Sunday evening with this, and it was the perfect finale. The plate was even decorated in such a festive way - it truly felt special. What really made the night, however, was our server, Alexandra. She was a total professional and an absolute gem. You can tell she is an asset to the team and well-loved by the regulars. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality. We already can't wait to return! God bless you all!

Parking is also highly convenient. The menu is extensive and I can't wait to go back to try everything they have. There are the classic breakfast items of course, but they also have some innovative dishes or familiar dishes with a spin. I ordered the jerk chicken pasta which was spicy, so flavorful and also a great portion size. Others in our party ordered pancakes, which were so fluffy, eggs, fried chicken, fried catfish and more. Everything was fried to perfection and the catfish tasted like it had literally just jumped out of the ocean. Our waiter was super nice and we had a big party so I'm sure it wasn't easy. My only suggestion is that they make their hot drinks hotter. Other than that, I'd seriously come back every weekend.

READ FULL REVIEW!!!…read more March 2026: First time at this establishment was just ok. Hosted a very small get-together here (5 guest). Atmosphere was nice. Music was wayy too loud to hear the person you're sitting next to. Food was tasty and fresh. Coffee was good with great creamer selection (at the time). Our server was my least favorite part of this experience. He was over the top with his energy and upscale tactics (pushy with getting us to order extra drinks and appetizers despite declining). I was hosting this event and did not need him selling us after already being told "no, thank you" twice. It was awkward and ultimately changed the vibe. He hardly checked on us after that encounter and we constantly had to remind them about request that were never brought out to the table. Staff needs to be trained better. This was just an ok experience. April 2026 : What ultimately lead me to write this review was my 2nd experience at this diner. The server was a lot better than our first experience, but we did run into a few too many problems. First, we ordered coffee and are informed that per managements request, we can only have half-half or cream with our coffee. Previously they had French vanilla creamers and other flavored creamers but I guess management decided to save on the additional cost. This was a bummer especially realizing that they could easily afford creamers. This restaurant easily pulls at least $150,000 per week in revenue, so I didn't understand cheapening out like that. I still ordered the coffee. When it came to the table I added the cream into the cup only to find something floating in the coffee. I send it back and ask for a new cup, which the server politely provided. We order our meals and all goes well. Eventually two of the three meals come out and we wait for the final plate to come out. It's common courtesy to wait for everyone to have their meal before eating, so we wait. We wait about 6-7 minutes and the final plate comes out only for it to be cold. All of us ordered breakfast, so you can imagine trying to eat cold egg, potato, and sausage. We ask for the waiter, but before he could get to us the manager passes by and we let him know the issue. He takes the plate to the back and about two minutes later he comes back with the same exact plate. Before the manager arrived to take the plate away, I saw the guest split the egg half and add black pepper on everything so we knew it was the same plate and food she started eating off of that was reheated onto the kitchen grill where other food is being prepared for guest. The manager informs us that he had the chef heat the food up on the griddle and that it should be a perfect temperature. We refuse to accept the plate because it was reheated and not remade entirely. We were shocked that this was the solution even being offered. Reheating food on the griddle seemed unsafe (contamination risk, diseases, illness, etc) and offensive. No one pays these prices to have reheated breakfast served to them. I could've just made that at home for a fraction of the price. We politely refuse the reheated plate and he apologized and took the plate to the back. The server comes over to see what the issue is and we explain everything. He says that he will look into it and take that meal off the bill. Now I'm frustrated because one out of the three of us aren't eating anything and the experience was off. At this point, I'm not eating my meal but the 3rd guest is eating. So the guest who sent their plate back and myself are waiting for the 3rd guest to finish their pancakes. He ordered a stack of 4-5 chocolate chip pancakes and was happily eating away at layer by layer. Eventually he gets to the last 2 pancakes and before he adds syrup he notices what appeared to be an eyelash or short piece of hair imbedded in the pancake. Picture of the clearly imbedded hair included with this review. He immediately stopped eating and looks sick. He had already eaten 3-4 pancakes by then and the idea that he ate more of whatever that was felt unnerving, to say the least. We both start looking to see what he's looking at and long behold the hair was there. At this point we are extremely frustrated and completely over this experience. Management did not make this experience right even after addressing all of these issues both separately and together. I felt like my money was not valued and my business certainly wasn't. They did nothing to remedy these issues and I will NOT be going back to this establishment. This restaurant may look visually beautiful but the service is not. Staff needs more training, music needs to be turned down, chefs need to wear hairnets and everyone needs to follow safe food handling skills. You're putting your guest and your business at risk ignoring these issues. I really really wish I had a better experience.

It wasn't until the 17th century that this meal became a more common practice, especially among the wealthy, who would have rich dishes like scrambled eggs alongside coffee and tea in the morning. Seating is first-come, first-served, and guests are placed based on availability, which keeps things fair and efficient even during busy times. The tables for two are intimate and cozy, perfect for conversation, though they can become a bit tight when ordering several dishes at once. That said, the staff was attentive and checked in often enough to clear plates and make room, which made the experience much more comfortable. The dessert menu is separate, allowing guests to enjoy their meal at an unhurried pace before deciding on something sweet. Their beverage offerings are thoughtfully presented. Herbal tea options include green tea, chamomile, and English tea (Stash), and the tea is served in a container that provides two full servings. The cappuccino is well made and served with a sugar crystal stick, adding a distinct old-world charm that enhances the café's European feel. I regret not asking for an additional order of Turkish coffee so that's a regret . What we ordered: * Greek Salad - $18.50 * Cappuccino - $6.80 * Herbal Tea - $6.00 * Uštipci - $17.25 * Musaka - $22.95 * Šnicla (Cutlet Sandwich) - $20.75 * 2 Diet Cokes - $8.00 The musaka is a baked dish and does take about 25 minutes to prepare, as it's made fresh with baked eggs, seasoned beef, and sliced potatoes layered on top. The wait is well worth it, resulting in a hearty, comforting dish that tastes authentically homemade. The Šnicla (cutlet sandwich) arrived beautifully presented on a wooden board, adding a rustic, elevated touch that matched the restaurant's aesthetic. Mom felt it lacked in seasoning but she Didnt leave any crumbs . The Uštipci were a standout--served with feta and honey, generously portioned, and so plentiful that we happily took some home. We were too full for dessert this time, but it's absolutely on the list for a return visit. Due to winter weather, we couldn't explore the back of the restaurant, but even from the main dining area, the decor is undeniably charming and full of character. Overall, Cafe Bubamara offers authentic flavors, generous portions, attentive service, and a cozy, old-world atmosphere that makes it a place worth revisiting.
