Super convenient location on the ground floor. Located on Hester st, between Bowery st & Elizbeth st. I have been seeing Dr. Chaung, OD for about 25 years, back when he had a practice on Canal st & Mulberry st. Friendly, patient, professional with a good sense of humor and a clean office. He has many glasses frames to choose from. What I most love is that he has a new imagery machine that allows you to see your eyeballs! No more drops to dilate your eyes, no more sitting there waiting for blurry eyes dissipate. New image machine allows you to see imagery of what the doctor sees on the screen. He allows you to take a photo or video of it. The imagery of our eye is like a Jacques Cousteau's underwater wonder adventure! It is quite beautiful. It is true they say our eyes is the window to our health. I purchased my Acuvue dailies contact lens here. Great service as always and appointments made are on time. All went well! A++++! read more

Dr. Chaung, Jenny and Ken are absolutely wonderful. My family has been coming here for as long as I can remember and I have continued the family tradition. I made a mistake a couple of years ago where I tried switching to a different optometrist because it was closer to where I live and it's resulted in me having a tear in my retina. After I came back to Horizon to purchase and get my eyes tested, I've had no problems. Dr. Chaung is extremely helpful and he explains everything to you in a patient manner. Still coming to see Dr. Chaung. Been receiving consistently great care since 2014! He always patiently explains my options and I've never felt rushed or ignored. He's upgraded various equipment over the years so it's great that I get to use the latest tech. No more eye dilating drops! He has this cool camera that takes photos and you get to see what your eyeball looks like. I recently went for my annual appointment and got to see covid protocols implemented. It's always been a clean space but now its extra sanitized. One patient at a time, masks the whole time, rubbing alcohol on surfaces before and after use. Anyways, Dr. Chaung is great. There's macular degeneration in my family so I used to go to the Vitreous Retina center on Park Avenue, a pretty big and fancy place with lots of imaging equipment. When my insurance changed, I was concerned about going to this unassuming, small storefront but now I am so very happy with the care I'm getting from Dr. Chaung. He is friendly, very thorough and spends a lot of time explaining everything. Dr. Chaung now has the latest imaging equipment and didn't even have to put drops in to dilate my eyes! The rest of the staff is also great. After watching me try several frames, Jenny handed me the ones that were just right for me, very light and the best color and shape for my face. Ken was very helpful with my insurance and ever so patient when I changed my appointment twice. They are all very caring and about making sure we get the best for our eyes. read more

Amazing experience! The staff is super friendly, helpful, and fluent in at least English and Cantonese. The front desk person knew the workings of vision insurance very well. We went in without an appointment and only had to wait 30 min to be seen. The Doctor was very thorough, nice, caring, and did a lot of teaching which I loved. I love Dr. Huang, Jenny and the gentleman who adjusts glasses! They are such an amazing team. I've been to zillions of vision centers (thumbs down to Lenscrafters and Pearle Vision) and I can say that these guys know what they're doing. I've been coming here for several years, recommended to me by a seasoned New Yorker. Jenny always greets customers with a smile and is incredibly talented at helping me choose glasses that fit my face (I have absolutely no bridge). Dr. Huang is patient and caring. And finally, Ken (thanks to another reviewer for the tip!) adjusts the frames so that they fit on my ears perfectly...every time! The glasses are expensive, but they have the best selection and customer experience. Frankly, I'd rather pay the $$$ to get the correct prescription and stellar experience. read more

Pretty much my whole family goes here, uncles and aunts included. I have no idea how long they've been going here, but I know I've been going here for over 20 years, and I'm 26 now. I've been wearing glasses since I was 5 (at first, it was only for reading the blackboard, but it's since escalated to where I'm blind without my glasses). I love it here. I'm very comfortable going here and they're the only place that gets my prescription right. I've tried going to other places like Pearle, Lenscrafters, etc...terrible experiences. My prescriptions were always off, and they don't offer the same type of lenses that I can get here. I get the thin, scratch resistant, glare resistant lenses here, and while the other places offer similar products, they're always much fatter and look like coke bottle glasses (think super, stereotypical, thick lenses). Also, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg like other places. They even give us discounts because they know us so well. Plus, our insurance doesn't cover vision, so this helps out a lot since everyone in my immediate family wears glasses (all five of us). I never make an appointment, I usually just walk in when I'm in the city and it's never been a problem. They're always extremely friendly. Usually they have to special order my frames because my head must be smaller, or wider, or something, but it's not a big deal. It only takes a few days for the frames to come in and they give you a pretty accurate time frame of when to come back for them. They'll also make as many adjustments to your frames as you need so everything is perfect. Also, yes, they speak fluent English and Chinese, so no worries if you don't speak either. read more

It's the WORST experience I had at optometrists. Although doctor Chaung is not bad, the bad points are many: 1. The equipments are old and dirty (peeled off paints etc) 2. Their charges are ridiculous - I just wanted to order new contact lens with the same model that I already have, and the doctor did a general check. Then when it's finished the cashier pointed to the wall saying "$75 dollars contact lens fitting fee NOT covered by insurance" - he didn't do anything about contact lens fitting! And why not be covered under insurance? 3. Their contact lens price is ridiculous - for a pair of 90 pkg with market value $100, they charge $160. Enough said. read more

The gem in this eye care retailer is the optometrist, Dr. Henry Chaung. Under his gentle and thorough care, you trust that Dr. Chaung will find and diagnose any abnormality. He has such a friendly, laid back and super pleasant manner that he should tbe recruited by hospitals to teach that to their residents and doctors. Horizon feels like a family run practice(and it is Dr. Chaung's) operated by a doctor who genuinely cares for his patients. I was there for an exam a few months ago and Dr. Chaung had informed me that he paid for a new piece of expensive machinery that would help him diagnose a certain eye problem, enabling him to refer patients with the condition out to the proper specialist. I've gotten a better eye examination here than at fancy, higher priced doctor's offices. While the frames are not cheap, Jenny at the front will work with you and your insurance to make sure you get the best deal. She also has an eye for the frames that flatter your face. No one I have referred to Dr. Chaung has not left happy with him. read more
