Execution was great. Food was cooked great. Tots were not hot and a ridiculously small portion. Chicken sandwiches were juicy and cooked perfect but severely lacking in flavor. They mixed up our orders our sides were on the wrong plate. Instead of offering to take our plates back to the kitchen how about you just bring out an order of truffle fries to fix it. Food was already low temperature. Got the dressing on the salad wrong as well. First time here. Not sure about the second. I like the self serve beer thing. Two chicken sandwiches, truffle fries, reg. Fry, BLT w/ side salad and a nacho tots order a couple of beers $125. A little high priced in my opinion. A huge rave to Hops and Sessions for their amazing food and service! Food was so bomb and there is so many options to choose from. Even though it's only outdoor dining at the moment, the atmosphere is still chill and cool. I can't wait to go there when we can eat inside and pour our beer. Our server Kynard was on top of everything! He did an awesome job and was super cool. This spot is definitely going to be my new go to. Interesting concept of self-service beers on tap with some food selections, too. We were looking for appetizers and beer, so this place fit the bill. Out of any of the other beer places in Livermore, this place is my choice hands down because of the many choices of beers plus quality of food. It's above pub grub grade, and that's a good thing. :) It's a nice step up! I would prefer table service in lieu of the wristband scanning process currently in place and a wider food menu. read more

We saw people in this place and couldn't figure out what this place was all about but decided to take a chance and give it a try one Saturday night. Turned out to be a very good place especially if you like beer. You get to try different kinds of beer in a self-service way. They give you a bracelet that tracks how much you've poured for yourself. I'm not a beer drinker so I can't really comment on any of their beers but hubby seemed to like the ones he had. In terms of food, we had the pretzel (which was huge!), truffle fries and sausage sampler. The food was good overall but would like to try other ones on the menu. Went here with a friend everything was going smoothly, was asked for my ID so I gave it to the lady at the front, everything checked out so me and my friend started to pour our beers. Never been here before so I was pretty excited. Sat outside when I was then rudely interrupted mid conversation by another worker asking for my ID AGAIN, not only did I feel humiliated but my appetite was then ruined, apparently the first round of ID checks didn't please the manager on duty so he chose to give us a hassle and a full on interrogation. Worst experience I have had downtown, never got the managers name, after all this the food was over priced and mediocre. Better off going somewhere else. It took a very long time to arrive, patty was overdone and the truffle fries were very greasy. There were lots of servers working however, we and 2 other tables we saw had to buss our own tables. This was my first time at Hops and Sessions. Immediately when I walked up with my family we were greeted by a very friendly waitress. We were sat and greeted right away. Kynard our server was on point! He checked on us and always made sure we had what we needed throughout our lunch. Austin also checked in with us mutltiple times. Kynard went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy. Many restaurants have struggled through the pandemic but this place will do great because of their exceptional top notch service and food. We will definitely be regulars from now on because of our experience with Kynard! read more

We enjoy the food and the convenience of self-pour beer on tap. My biggest complaint comes from posted hours. Their website, Google, Yelp, and posted hours on the door say open until 10pm on Friday through Sunday but the last several times we were planning on eating there they closed the kitchen at 8:30 and doors at 9pm. It would be nice if they had accurate posting of hours so we didn't have to go somewhere else. read more

Overall I like this place and the concept. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is that now that I have been there 4 times, I noticing that their system is over estimating the ounces I am pouring, and thus over charging. I don't mind that it is a little expensive, I can deal with the price, but I do mind that their system is not accurately measuring the quantity. I mentioned it to the hostess, a very young Woman, and instead of looking into it, she proceeded to argue and insist that the system was accurate. At 50 years old, I have been measuring liquids for cooking, mixing paint, mixing drinks, and other solutions, for longer than she has been alive. So so place. Nothing to rave about but their french fries. Chicken tenders are extremely overcooked, very dry!! And the ranch isn't very flavorful so better hope you like dipping in ketchup. Alot of beer on tap (all self serve) and water is also self serve. Good place for a group. read more

We went in to enjoy one last beer before going home. The employees were super rude and I just felt there non caring personalities when we walked in. It felt like get your drinks and leave. My friend started a conversation with 2 others patrons and they invited us to sit. The two employees who were working approached us and told us to leave. The 2 patrons told them it was okay. We sat there for a few more minutes and the other patrons left as they were offended by the way we were treated. My friend accidentally spilled my beer and apologized and we were told to leave. We left feeling disrespected and as a customer I felt they were saying in a snooty way we weren't good enough to drink a beer there. Offended and disrespected won't be back. read more

Nice concept. Love checking out the different drinks on offer, it is not just beer, they have ciders and wines as well. I am not a fan of hot peppers - jalapeños are disqualify for me, so half the menu drops right away. So drop one star for the lack of food that I would like better. I came here for the first time during the Taste of Livermore. They were sampling the Reuben sandwich. It was very good. We decided to buy one to split with tator tots. The sandwich was good but the tots were still frozen. I told our waitress and when they came back out, the tots were burned beyond recognition. Inedible. We gave up and left them there. Fast forward to recently. I was craving the Reuben sandwich so we stopped in to get one to go with fries. (Learned my lesson on the tots). The 49ers were on so we sat and watched. They brought my food to go but the game was good so I opened up the fries to snack on. Inedible. Mainly a few small burnt pieces. The longer ones had no flavor at all. Just burnt crunch. I left them on the table. Sandwich was just ok. How do you screw up fries and tator tots? They clearly don't care. I won't be back for food. Possibly the beer. read more

A little late to review (sorry) but decided to order takeout a few weeks ago during lockdown and chose Hops and Sessions based on good reviews and it was on the way home. I'm not sure what happened in the kitchen that night, especially given it didn't seem busy since not a single other person picked up food during our 30 min wait, but we were left utterly disappointed and unable to even consume the food. I ordered the buffalo chicken fries and my boyfriend ordered the spicy fried chicken sandwich. When we got home and sat down to eat, my fries were soaking in a pool of oil. Not the usual expected amount of oil which I understand can be a lot sometimes, but drenched. Not only that, the chicken pieces on top of the fries were tough and cold while the fries were still pretty warm. I picked at the few fries which weren't soaked because I was hungry. My boyfriend's burger, on the other hand, was completely inedible. He took a couple of bites and then told me his chicken was hard as rock. He hardly ever complains about food so I was surprised. I took a bite and couldn't even chew through the chicken. We stopped eating right then. I kept the food in the fridge for a couple days to show the restaurant in case they wanted to see it; however, I called multiple times every day for 4 days straight and they didn't answer once so I threw it out. Terrible food quality and awful service don't make a returning customer. read more

This place is a unique take on pour your own beer. You arrive and get a wristband that your credit card is tagged too. You tap the wristband to a selection of about 30 beers and a few wines and then pour the amount you want. The wristband tracks the ounces poured. You have a limit of 50 ounces but it can be reset to add more ounces by seeing a staff member. The beer selection is great. I've tried a few light appetizers and they were good. We called from 30 minutes away to ask if we could bring outside food in and we're told. " of course!" Made the 30 minute drive with fresh food and walked in and they stopped us saying " oh I thought you meant snacks." But shook it off and took our cards and gave us wrist bands. At this time we thought they gave us a pass so we started pouring beers. But of course once we started spending money they came by the table and kicked us out because of the food that they let us in with. I for one will never come here again. Not because they lied about allowing outside food but because the prices are outrageous once you get past the "novelty" of pouring your own beer from a tap... Average price for a 16oz beer is $9-10. Want a specialty beer? Looking at $12-15.... Take your business else where. read more

My girlfriend and I just left this place. It was an early Monday evening. Not packed at all. The staff was friendly. The food was awesome. We had the twice fried wings for startes. The best wings i've had in a while. Then we had a crispy chicken sandwhich and the bbq chicken flatbread. Even if this place didnt have the cool self-serve beer, i'd come back for the food. The self-serve beer/wine taps were easy to use and had a large selection. Inside the restaurant it was clean and welcoming. Im overall pretty excited to go back. Super fun, New place in downtown Livermore. You put money on a card and use the card to try various drinks they have on tap. Beers and ciders, mostly. This is a really nice switch for a town with lots of winery tasting rooms. Offers a unique and fun experience that's great for a group of friends. Always a good time. Their menu is small but everything on it is delicious! Their specialties shine through because of this. I loved the veggie and hummus appetizer. It was ridiculously good. Cool concept! Unfortunately when my girlfriend and I went we could not find anything we enjoyed. I enjoy a pretty vast selection of beers but theirs were all underwhelming and almost tasted watered down. Nice vibe and interior but very average beers on tap. You'd find better selection at your local Safeway. I recommend Caps n Taps in Dublin for your craft beer (not affiliated in anyway just an enthusiast). Cheers! read more

These pour your own places are all such a sham. They love to make it seem so cool that you get to pour your own beer. The problem is, it's half foam, and if you spill some over to get a full pour, you pay for it all. A $9 or $10 beer isn't out of the question. Also, the sell is "try lots of beers!" If I'm at a bar and ask for a sample, the bartender happily obliges. Here, every sample you try is a buck or more. Soooo... been there, done that. Im going to a place with a bartender. Call me when your pour-your-own beers are $5 and we can talk. read more

I've been coming here since they originally opened and have not had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious. My picky 5 year old says they have the best burger and grilled cheese. Since Covid we've been quite a few times and usually have Gabriel as our server and just love him. Highly recommend. read more
