I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone use one of the tables inside the restaurant. While doing the take-out thing, you'll notice they're always doing a LOT of take-out business. You may be on hold for a moment or two, but once they get your order, Hop Shing cooks up everything fresh and hot. I always place my orders via the phone, and they're always generally ready in about 10-min (conveniently the time it takes to drive there). I asked the older man (who seemed to be in charge) a question and he kept answering about something unrelated and wasn't friendly. I ordered three entrees and brought the food home, and it was all downhill. I paid extra for "fried rice" instead of white rice for all 3 dishes. This was not fried rice. It had a spec or two of veggies. No egg and didn't seem fried. There was some weird sweet sauce that was really bad. It was like a canned sweet and sour sauce that is used on sweet and sour dishes. We threw all the bizarre terrible rice away. Other people have commented on this not being fried rice. It was really bad and abolutely not like any fried rice I've ever had anywhere. The sesame chicken is not supposed to be spicey. It wasn't except for the single giant whole very hot pepper in it. It burned the mouth and throat of someone who likes mildly spicey food, but said it was incredibly hot and his throat was burning. It should not have been in there. The mongolian chicken was incredibly spicey and bad, and was made without the crispy noodles that I've always had with mongolian dishes. I couldn't eat it at all. The vegetable dish I ordered they made as chicken and vegetable by mistake (and charged me 50% more and I didn't notice when paying as they didn't show me an intemized receipt, just a total. This dish was also incredibly spicey and bad. I couldn't eat it at all. We ate none of the "rice". We ate a few handfuls of the 3 dishes and then threw it all in the garbage. We ordered from Hop Shing on a Friday afternoon. The order took approximately 15 mins to prepare and it was ready when I arrived to pick the order up. This was my first time trying Hop Shing. It is a very good Chinese American restaurant. The food is cooked very well and it's not overly greasy. I ordered the lemon pepper wings and shrimp fried rice. My girlfriend ordered the orange chicken and lo mein. The wings were nice and crispy and were seasoned in a buttery lemon pepper seasoning. The shrimp fried rice was good and had all the normal components of mixed veggies and eggs. The ratio of shrimp to the amount of rice was quite fair. I definitely felt satisfied. My girlfriend really enjoyed her orange chicken and lo mein. She said that it was cooked perfectly. The chicken was edible and the bread was not too crunchy. It was perfectly balanced. Hop Shing is the best Chinese food that I've had in Atlanta! I was having some serious cravings during quarantine, but they were temporarily closed until recently. When I went to pick up my food I noticed that there was a wall and glass barrier in front of the cash register and the area where seating used to be available. So dining in isn't an option for them right now. I ordered chicken lo mein with shrimp and broccoli and it was all delicious. What a find! I was drawn to this place because of it's close proximity to a coffee shop I've been fiending to try for weeks, and to Publix. I ordered the Mongolian Beef combo (a little under $9!) to go, which came with an egg roll and fried rice. This place definitely falls into the "shitty Chinese" category (aka inauthentic) but it is one of the best shitty Chinese places I've been to in a long while. The beef wasn't overly tenderized, there was a good ratio of beef to bell pepper to onion, and the ratio between rice and stir fry was perfect! And the egg roll was better than most, too. The portions are big for the price your paying. I will say normally when i get shrimp from chinese places the shrimps are small or you only get like 3-4 shrimps, but here the shrimps are big and come with a good amount. Also, the combos came with egg rolls which i normally dont care for but these were a bit sweet with the perfect balance of savory.
