Unfortunately, that perfect evening didn't just take a turn... it drove straight off a cliff. Seven of us ordered appetizers and full meals, and everything hit the table looking and tasting great--except for one unfortunate burger that was so thoroughly charred it could've doubled as a hockey puck. Our friend tried to power through it (because who wants to complain?), but eventually realized it just wasn't edible. They politely asked if it could be remade or replaced. Simple enough, right? Wrong. About 20 minutes later--after everyone else had finished eating--we weren't met with a replacement, but with what I can only assume was the owner, who approached with an accusatory tone that immediately made the entire table uncomfortable. Instead of resolving the issue quietly, she marched back from the kitchen holding the same burnt burger and presented it like courtroom evidence, as if we were on trial for daring to send it back. At that point, we were all sitting there in disbelief. Was this really happening? Then came the comment: essentially suggesting that next time, we should say something before eating most of it--despite the fact that our group had spent plenty on food and drinks and clearly wasn't angling for a free burger. The implication alone was enough to sour the entire experience. To "fix" things, she offered to comp the burger (which we had already declined) and, as we were leaving, handed over a $20 gift card--as if that could somehow erase the awkwardness, embarrassment, and frankly rude treatment we had just experienced. It couldn't. What should have been a minor kitchen mistake turned into a bizarre and uncomfortable scene, all because of how it was handled. Mistakes happen--burnt burgers happen--but treating paying customers like they're trying to pull one over on you? That's a choice. It's a real shame, because the night had been so enjoyable up until that moment. But after witnessing that level of unprofessional and unpleasant behavior, it's hard to imagine returning. Do better. Seriously.

Worst part is that it is tiny. There is barely enough room to get the tables and stools in, not to mention people. Luckily, the good beer outweighs the lack of space. Maybe they will get a bigger place someday. They need it considering the popularity of their establishment.

The interior is a shoe box with a few bar seat style tables and a half door opening where you order. A complimentary popcorn machine is set up by the tables. On tap are only a half dozen beers but that's fine by me. When you run across a joint this size you want to see them concentrate on a small selection and get them right. I had the pleasure of a couple free pours today, Abolition and British Ugly. Abolition, a robust porter, warmed my heart...so I bought a growler to go. British Ugly, a mild English ale, was nearly as good. If I had the time I would have done it the right way and ordered a flight, but we had other fish to fry. I enjoyed their small/local approach. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods do yourself a solid and pay these fathers a visit. Cheers!

It came with three different sauces: beer-infused mustard, tangy barbecue and creamy horseradish. I could have just sat here and ate charred pork and drank beer and I would have been happy. We also got a Caesar salad, which was OK but would have been a bit better if it came dressed -- the dressing came on the side. The wedge salad was good but was less of a wedge and more of a regular salad. Fenwick Farms has a kids menu, which features things like cheeseburgers, buttered noodles, chicken strips and other kid-friendly foods. Each kids meal comes with a side and a dessert (ice cream sundae), although we didn't get our ice cream, but it was fine because my kids didn't need anymore sugar that day. Speaking of kids: They have free arcade games to play! My kids played Pac-Man and NBA Jam while we waited for our food. The Fenwick Farms Brewing Co. beer is made right here at the brewery, and this is the first and only craft brewery in Rensselaer. They have 30 different beers on tap (most their own, some guest beers), and they offer flights. Indiana knows how to do craft beer, and FFBC is another great example of great beer.
