The worst service I have ever had in my life. Waited over and hour for a beer, another hour only to find out that what I ordered (was out), another 1/2 hour to find out that my second choice ordered (was also out). Ordered an egg roll (2 small ones) appetizer, that was only so-so in order to get anything to eat without having to wait another hour. Then waited another 3/4 hour for my bill. Walked in at 6:45 and was able to finally run from t his place at 11:00 pm after having to argue with the manager. I felt my little appetizer should have been comped, they felt it was my fault for coming in when they had a party of 60 and were just to busy to service. Typical Adrian mentality. So I noticed the poor reviews on the way to this place, we decided to give it a try anyway. Well everything about the service is true. SLOW!!! The staff was nice enough but for an empty restaurant we couldn't understand why things took so long. The decor is cool, so there's potential for improvement but the food was mediocre, not bad, but mimics more of a typical chain restaurant. We were hoping for more of a local home town place, we were disappointed. I feel like the band was more glad we were there than the waitstaff. If you go in with low expectations you may have an okay time. As mentioned in other reviews we also waited FOREVER for our check. We also were passed several times by a woman who we suspected may have been the manager. We weren't even acknowledged or asked how things were, I told my husband it was probably because she didn't want to ask a question she didn't want to hear the answer to. After a 60$ tab I felt even worse, poor service lackluster food and two drinks we had to wait for for an obscene amount of time. It will be a Lonnnnggggg time before I ever try this place again. We stopped here before going to the Croswell Theater and all four of us were happy with our food. We had sandwiches, salads, and an appetizer. We told our waitress we were going to the theatre and she made sure we had our food in a short time. I'm not sure if the waitress was new but she didn't seem to know the menu as well as she should have. read more

I met 3 girlfriends here for dinner. It was my first visit. The decor, ambiance and food were great. I had the shrimp tacos. However, the waitress was terrible. She was cute and sweet, but had no idea how to sell the restaurant and give good service. I could give more detail, but won't. I gave it a second chance a few weeks later for lunch. This place has some good things going for it but has some problems too. My wife has gone here four times, and two of those times she had to send back her steak because it was too well done. A third time, she got the prime rib, which wasn't anything special. The appetizers are pretty skimpy for the price as well, but the burgers and sides are good (the homemade sauce is a highlight). A friend of hers ordered the pasta and the sauce tasted exactly like Ragu...why bother? The beer selection is fantastic, focusing mostly on Michigan beers, and you can build a flight of 5 good-sized samples. The wine selection is lacking and overpriced. In short, if you want a good burger and beer, this works as well as any other place in Adrian, but you're on your own if you branch out. Still, it's good to see new business downtown, so here's hoping the place can work out the opening-year kinks and get on track. read more

A lot to people may complain about the wait, but I've never had a problem. It's a very relaxed and casual atmosphere and nothing is rushed. The staff and owner want you to come in, relax, and enjoy yourself. They have live music weekly from really great local talent. read more

I was absolutely floored when I got on Facebook just now and saw a post where the owner (or manager, not sure which) talked publicly about firing an employee. Almost 3 years, and an owner that did such a great job with preparing the space for this restaurant/pub (very nice & welcoming, comfortable); creating a diverse and appealing menu; creating a nice pre-opening buzz via social media - and still doesn't have the "operation" end of things right. A Saturday nite that had most of the places in Adrian packed, and Hooligan's was maybe 20%. We're out frequently, and like SO many reviews here, we won't be back because of 1.) staff and 2.) food prep. Our server had NO idea as to the detail of the draft beer list, attempted (when pressed) to describe one choice as "malty" (it was heavily hopped). Seemed to view their job as simply taking orders and delivering it. Seriously, I've had better "service" at Culvers. This is a TOUGH business - I'd not want to try it. But, if I did, I'd certainly read my reviews, and when I saw a common thread(s) of complaint, I'd work on it as if my survival and financial well-being depended on satisfying my customers. After almost three years, its clear that the owner cared more about the start-up than she does the operation. read more

Went tonight just to get some drinks. It was 7:15 and the place wasn't full at all. It took 10min for someone to even acknowledge our presence then another 12min to get ONE beer. On top of that, the first sip of beer came with a nice chunk of glass. Yes, glass. My friend I was with even got a cut from the glass he spit out of his mouth. No one came over and talked to us other than to give us a replacement beer. We just left, it was that pathetic. None of us will ever go back. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

Tonight was our first and our last time eating at Hooligan's. My family was celebrating my brother's college graduation, and this was the restaurant he unfortunately chose. There were two larger parties when we sat down, but the restaurant was by no means busy. Our server apologized numerous times for the slow service, which she was clearly not to blame for. We waited almost an hour for our appetizer, then another twenty minutes for our entrees. When our food finally arrived, it was very average and not equivalent to the prices for what you got. During our meal we witnessed multiple people approach the owner to complain. She was very apathetic and offered no apologies or discounts to anyone. When our bill finally came (full price), we didn't even waste time trying to dispute it. We were baffled by the owner's poor management and customer service. It's sad when the server appears to be more concerned than the person that owns the establishment. Overall we were extremely dissappointed and will not be returning. read more

1st trip here and it will be my last. The service was horrible, had to ask several times for refills on drinks. Asked for my prime rib medium rare and it came out more medium/medium well. Had to ask for au jus several times before it was brought out and when I finally get it there was maybe a tablespoon in the bottom of a soup bowl. When the manager came out to ask what he could do to make it right he offered a dessert or money off the bill. I told him money off the bill...when I got the bill he took a whopping $1.70 off. We've been there about 3 times now. The first time was perfect and the food was delicious. The second time we went there, they took about 45 minutes to bring our appetizer and then then brought our main courses literally 2 minutes after that. By the time I was done eating the appetizer, my main course was cold and soggy (Ruben sandwich). We chalked it up to some growing pains and thought we would try it a 3rd time. It was a nice day, so we asked to be seated at one of the outside tables. After about 30 minutes, the hostess came by to ask if we had been helped. We told her we had not (we didn't really mind since it was such a nice day outside). After waiting another 30 minutes for our appetizer, one of the employees who seemed to be the manager squeezed in a party of 12 right next to us. When I say "squeezed," I mean we were touching. The hostess even asked the manager, "Are you sure? It's really tight," and the manager responded, "We'll just have to make it work." This was not acceptable to us, so we decided to just box up our stuff and leave. In order to leave, half of the party of 12 had to get up and move out of the way so we could get out of the outdoor fenced-in area. I will start by saying I love the look of this place, it's warm and inviting. Having not visited Adrian in a couple of years I was excited to try this place out when meeting up with an old friend. I was even more excited when I saw that they had a gluten free menu and I wouldn't have to modify an existing dish to suit my dietary needs. That being said, it was all downhill from there. I ordered shrimp tacos from the gluten free menu and specified to the server/bartender that I'd like them to be gluten free. I also asked about the side of vegetables and was told it would be a medley of sauteed veggies. To my surprise the tacos were delivered with a bed of rice pilaf and served on flour tortillas. I alerted the server immediately who blamed the cook for not listening to her instructions. She took the dish back to the kitchen and returned with a menu and message from the cook that they were all out of corn tortillas. Everything on the gluten free menu is served in some way or another on a corn tortilla so I was back to square one and ordered a burger sans bun because my friend already had her food. This is first gripe with the place, if you are out of a specific item that makes the dish a guest ordered gluten free and substitute for a gluten containing item you are putting the guest at risk. The guest should always be alerted when an item will not be served as indicated and it should not be assumed that they will be okay with the new change. I worked in restaurants for a long time and I understand the frustration but it cannot be assumed that every dietary restriction is just a fad, Celiac's and gluten sensitivities exist. My second gripe is that once our third friend joined we all decided to order a beer. I asked about gluten free beers or ciders and the server, who is also the bartender, told me they did not have any except Angry Orchard but that's not gluten free. I corrected her immediately as Angry Orchard is indeed gluten free and she is a bartender and should know this, however, I shouldn't have surprised due to the tortilla issue. After this, she also messed up our drink order, assuming all three of us wanted cider when I was the only person to order it. Throughout our time in this establishment, our table was not well attended, I sat with an empty iced tea glass while I ate before the third friend joined and we ordered beers. A fresh iced tea would have really helped wash down the salty and dry burger patty I was served. In all, I'm saddened that this wasn't a more pleasant experience. I had high hopes but they were quickly squashed. Thankfully I was in good company. I just couldn't help but be irritated by the carelessness of the staff during a time of day when there were two other tables of people in the whole place. My friend said it's often not busy and I can see why. Oh, she's also a vegan and said that the vegetarian options have been pretty inconsistent as well. We picked a table and waited and waited until a guy that wasn't a server - still don't know who he was - said hello and welcome and that somebody will be right with us. Finally, the server came and she was allright. Didn't think the food was very good (caribou burger and buffalo). The thing that really turned me off was the location of the kitchen...on the way to the bathroom (dirty, but the way). Went to celebrate my cousins birthday and was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. We get there at 6:45, the server never introduced herself, took 40 minutes to get any drinks, when we finally ordered it took an hour and half to get our food and the first plate was served an 35 minutes before the last plate was served, after we asked for our bill the sever did not come until 40 minutes after asking. We were there for a total of 3.5 hours! It was absolutely ridiculous! After talking with the owner, who was sitting down drinking wine, with a full restaurant and low staff, she argued with me on how long we had been waiting. Then proceeded to tell me it was acceptable to wait an hour for food! Our party ended up walking out due to the server still not coming. I would rate this restaurant a 0 star if I could. Horrible experience and will never be going again, recommended anyone who wants good service or food to find somewhere else!!!! read more

Ummm...don't bother. Had dinner there w/my wife, this evening & was really hoping for a better result. We were seated promptly, but our table was extremely wobbly w/a dishrag "trying" to balance it, underneath. Our waitress noticed us playing w/the table & said, "it's a 150 year old floor underneath, so it's hard to keep the tables level"?!?!?! Speaking of our waitress, she was "tweeking" on something...she couldn't hold still, rambled on & on & seemed more than slightly off. Got waters to begin w/& an appetizer(hummus plate)...alright, but as we were getting ready to order the app., the waitress told us that the menus were new that day & that the Hooli-Bread was not available..."they didn't have the bread or something"...she wasn't sure. When she took our dinner order(after quickly telling us that prime rib was a special & nothing else about it), she asked my wife what veggie she wanted, but not me. When the dinners came, she said to me, "I'm sorry, you wanted asparagus(not the broccoli & carrots) w/that...let me get that for you"...I didn't have the heart to tell her that I never GOT the opportunity to tell her what I wanted. In the meantime, I heard the party behind me ask their waiter a ? about a dish & he too, seemed to know nothing about it & simply answered, "I'm not sure". Later on during our meal, another staffer(whom I assumed to be a manager or something), walked by & asked us how everything was. A little later, this same person was ?'d by the party behind me about what was in the 113 sauce...she didn't know. She then walked up to the bar & asked both bartenders if they knew...one responded, "hot stuff". To her credit, though, she did go back & ask someone in the kitchen, but I just feel like none of the 3 people I heard interacting w/the customers, had any idea about items on the menu. Once finished eating, we opted to skip dessert & leave. Although we did tip better than we should have, I justified it by saying that the place would probably not last another year & this was to help our waitress out(although, I later thought that maybe we were helping her w/a habit & not financially). If in Downtown Adrian, unless significant changes are made, skip Hooligan's Grill & go to Sauce, instead. read more
