This was an ok vineyard, but living in California for many years I guess I expected more. The wine wasn't bad by any means, but also didn't stand out. The setting left a lot to be desired as well even when compared to other vineyards in the state. Overall everything was just kind of meh. read more

Super disappointed that there are no vegan options. We were looking forward to spending the evening there with nine other couples and now we are heading to Sandhill Crane to enjoy music, wine and some vegan options. It's a bit out of your way to get here, and on a one way small road for part of it which may give you slight anxiety. The "tasting" room isn't really a room it's more of a tent, so I wouldn't recommend going unless it's warm outside. Because it makes for a semi awkward experience otherwise. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable, however the person doing our tastings was not and she made it challenging to enjoy the wine. The wine? Well it's fantastic! After seeing a few sad reviews, I decided to write my own, to show this small business winery some much deserved love. My husband and I enjoy the hobby of traveling all over Michigan, visiting wineries and breweries, from Adrian to Copper Harbor and everywhere in between. Flying Otter is one of the finest establishments that we've visited. The wines and sangria have never disappointed (he likes dry reds, and I like semi-sweet whites, so we have a good range of taste). While you may not find "vegan" on the menu, note that they specialize in "wine" and being a "vineyard", just as the name suggests. The food and live entertainment are bonuses, but we go for the delicious, local, hand-crafted, Made in the (small town) USA, homemade wines! Keep loving what you do, and doing what you love, because you're doing it well! read more

Upon arrival this winery was getting ready for the spring kick off of music festivities. This was not our favorite winery . We didn't know where to enter. Once in there they charge for samples. No biggie but they want a credit card on file. Huh... never had that happen before. Do you really have people leave without paying for their wine samples. The wine server was ok, not going to blow you away. There were about 10 wines to try . They do have a small menu of items to try . Not sure if the entertainment is worth it but overall unless we go on the tour again it will not be a place that we go back to. read more

The worst part is the port-o-potty. Stinky. Dirty. Spiders and spider webs. I'll never come back. The wine was good. Prices were not bad. No servers or waitstaff. Definitely has potential. Hopefully they improve the food options and toilet nonsense soon. read more

This is a fun little place! I only found one wine that really spoke to me (2013 Frontenac) but I could really appreciate the effort they put into all their varieties. We arrived just after noon but I suspect the BEST time is around 6pm when the live band fires up. Give it a go for a nice outing! (Only open on weekends) read more

Visited on 4/14/18- This was my favorite stop on our mini wine tour in SE Michigan. All of the wines we tried were great and the gentleman tending bar was very knowledgeable about their wines, the grapes they grow, and really just wine in general. It was really wonderful having a chat with him. The day I visited it was cold and dreary-- I can only imagine the beauty of the location on a warm summer day! read more

Brand new winery; just opened the tasting room/winery in November of 2011. The owner is a pilot who always wanted a winery and his family couldn't distract him from the idea! The winery's name is a combination of the pilot( flying) and the family name, Utter, to make Flying Otter! We sampled a white wine blend called "Northern Lights" and an excellent dessert wine called the 2011 Cherry Pie. The whole family is involved in the winery and are very warm and welcoming. This was a stop on our wine tasting trip. Very nice place. Outdoor deck seating is available and they have outdoor heaters in case it's chilly out. The wines selected for tasting for our party were very good. I ended up purchasing a bottle of Sexy Devil but Flirtation and Brianna we're also good. We then were given a tour of the winery and shown how the wine is made, which was very informative and interesting. read more

The wine and food was great, the service not so much...the ladies behind the bar weren't very friendly, and would watch us stand there waiting a while before helping us. Perhaps the best reds grown in the state of Michigan. They use the Marquette Grape and it's a winner. Family run and operated, always a fun tasting free BTW. Out of the way and quite rustic with a port a potty. Their wines are worth the lack of indoor plumbing. I truly surprised myself with my favorite white not being a reisling! They also offer a wine slushy!! Will definitely go back when warmer weather to enjoy the patio!! read more
