If you find yourself in Adrian, MI looking for a place to eat do yourself a favor and run the other way from this place! The food here is average, not good but not horrible. The reason I would never eat here again is entirely based on the terrible service! We decide to eat here before catching a college hockey game at Adrian College. We arrived at 5:30 thinking that was plenty early since the game didn't start till 7:30. Boy were we wrong. The place only had a few people in eat but that did not stop them for taking until after 7pm to bring out our order of 1 burger and 1 Reuben. When we asked about our food all we were told by the totally indifferent waitress was that they make everything from scratch! No apologies at all! The first thing we noticed when walking in was the music, it was a little loud, and the base was literally vibrating us. This was strange as it was dinner time and most songs played by live performers aren't as loud. They did quiet down for a bit, it wasn't our favorite. The food took some time. I got a Ruben and it was absolutely delicious, they did however forget to bring it, everyone else's food came much sooner. One of us got a Smash burger... my goly this thing was smaller than a slider. It was $11 for a slider and a few fries. That's a scam. Drinks were a little on the heavier side of the price but they did not disappoint, besides with how long they took to come. Delicious burgers but where's the love? My husband ordered the smash burger, fries, which were extra, and a bowl of french onion soup. The burger and fries were placed on an undersized plate so that the undersized amount of fries wouldn't be noticed. Well we noticed cause we always split fries. There was no pickle/presentation to this white plate. Soup was delicious but a bit cool. I ordered the daily special which was a bourbon burger and it was so flavorful, perhaps undercooked, is medium rare supposed to be raw inside? Again, the presentation was subpar, just a burger, no chips, no pickle on a small plate and man was it noticeable how skimpy the meal was. Bottomline, good food, small portions, over-priced. Ambiance is awesome, great location as we walked to the theatre. Service was fast and friendly. We will still frequent, just want some improvements made please. read more

This is an adorable establishment! There was a live band and they sounded great. Service was fabulous, and the food was absolutely delicious! I had the crab stuffed white fish and it was perfect! My partner had a mushroom swiss burger and it was also really good. Their side salads are filling and fresh. The mashed potatoes were very good also. I would definitely come back here. read more

Only thing I'm not fond of is the pricing but I could understand it considering the place is nice; it's relatively clean so I can't really complain too much. Fairly quiet on a Wednesday night, however it afforded an extended conversation with the waitress and a conversation with the General Manager, and a tour of their private dining/party rooms. #1 comment - IGNORE ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS ON THIS PAGE. The new General Manager was hired on 03/01/22 (approximately) and the first action that she and the owner took was to dismiss the ENTIRE existing staff and rehire new people. The goal is to revitalize this restaurant and she seems to be very positive and forward-looking to the future. The food was quite good (my wife and I had seafood), fresh, and served at exactly the right temperature in a very timely manner. It was 1/2 off bottles of wine that night and the selection, although small, was adequate for the primarily beer/mixed drink establishment. There was also live music, a duo comprised of a violinist and a guitar. It worked for the most part. At least I can honestly say that the music complimented our meal and didn't overwhelm our experience. There were a few "bugs," but this is to be expected with a new staff. We plan to be back soon. Again, if you rely on any negative review (or for that matter any review) prior to 03/01/22, you are relying on outdated information. Please give Hooligans a try. Was shocked at how horrible the service was and how mediocre the food was for the price. Our waitress seemed like she'd rather be anywhere else and was super short with us. The burgers were small and lacking flavor, the mac n cheese was decent but also lacking flavor, worst of all the ribs we ordered had to be sent back because of how tough (and honestly gross) they were and they didn't even offer to have us order anything else. If I could give this no stars I would. Service was good and the ladies who work there are nice but the food is absolutely horrible. They need a new cook and recipes yesterday. Place was cutely decorated for the holidays and if you are just going there to drink you are probably fine. To add insult to injury this place is not cheap. The seat we sat on had crumbs all over it and it just went downhill from there. If you don't care how your food tastes and just want a stiff drink then this is the place for you. Can't say much good about our experience. Four of us arrived before 6:00 PM. It was about 20 min before waitstaff acknowledged us, at which time we informed that we had tickets for a 7:30 curtain. Another wait to order. It was past 7:00 before two of us got food. The others got theirs in time to box it up for later consumption. The bottleneck seems to be in the kitchen. That's an uninformed guess. There was a manager on the floor and an adequate number of waitstaff. Food was not bad, but not exceptional and not hot. Reading reviews over a year's time, our experience is common. True that people who complain tend to populate reviews. It's undeniable however, there is a problem here. Once again, against my better judgment, I came back here for lunch. Almost 40-45 minutes of waiting, I got my grilled chicken wrap (which was supposed to come with warm, grilled chicken). The chicken was cold/slightly lukewarm (who wants lukewarm grilled chicken) and my salad was not brought out with my wrap. No worries, the waitress says the cook can remake my wrap with warm chicken. My food comes back several minutes later and it's clear the cook just stuck it in the microwave to nuke it because the chicken is now rubbery and the lettuce is wilted and hot. My friend's chicken tenders were rubbery and dry. She had to dunk them in excessive amounts of ketchup to eat them. My mom said her sandwich (a Reuben) was good but the fries were cold and she was given a dirty uncleaned water glass. I really love the outdoor patio seating area and the decor. I believe the problem may be the kitchen area is too small to allow for the volume of and quality of food that needs to be cooked in that space? I would suggest taking out some of that space in the back that is not needed and expand the kitchen. I really do hope the owner(s) take into consideration the critiques that are being offered by the local community members or they likely won't be in business for very much longer. read more

had the whitefish stuffed with crab. it really was good but i dont think it was actual whitefish, just a white fish of some sort and from the ocean. my side potatoes came 10 minutes after but were good. my wife had a grilled cheese and it was original, cheesy and tasty. a friend had french dip and ate it all. this place has a good atmosphere and friendly service. saw some bad reviews on here but 1 stars are a little harsh and lack credibility. this is not waffle house. I know my fishes pretty well and i dont think i got what i paid for, although i ate all of it enjoyed it. for that i could not give it 4 stars which it would otherwise deserve. we may return but dont live in the area. read more

We visited for brunch on a Sunday in May 2022. According to the manager, the brunch was just "restarted" after 14 weeks. We had last visited for brunch in November of 2021. That visit was good... which is why we came back and brought a guest. On this occasion we were given the exact same brunch menu to order from... but what came out was not the same. We three had their Crab Cakes Benedict and two orders of the chicken and waffles. The menu says crab cakes (plural) and poached eggs, (plural) served "Benedict" (with Hollandaise) and red potatoes. When it arrived, there was one egg, on one crab cake, on one piece of toast with barely discernable Hollandaise... and no potatoes. The pathetic little egg slid off the toast when the server placed the dish in front of my wife. Also, the menu photo shows English muffins... like a normal eggs Benedict. Not toast. I commented to the server that the Crab Cakes Benedict was "different", and asked for a menu for verify. Upon realizing the discrepencies between the menu and what we received, I mentioned it to the manager. She said the kitchen made an "extra large" crab cake instead of two, and that they forgot the potatoes. She insisted that they've never had English muffins... OK. Perhaps I was mistaken and the crab cakes (plural) and eggs (plural) came on toast back in November. But they also came with an adequate amount of Hollandaise, and potatoes. The chicken and waffles was better, but also missing items listed on the menu. The manager then decided that the potatoes missing from the waffles shouldn't have been there, because that would be "too much food". Agreed. The chicken and waffles alone are a lot... (and delicious), but if the menu says that item AND the Crab Cakes Benedict comes with pototoes, and neither one did, wouldn't you offer to bring some potoatoes out anyway? Instead, they thanked me for my feedback and compensated me for one $ 4 Sangria on a bill that was for $ 100.00 (two of us had "bottomless Mimosas", which were good). Not a great experience. I wish, in retrospect, that I had taken photos of the sad Crab Cakes Benedict. I've seen hospital food more appealingly plated. Maybe it's just new staff... but geez. read more

Super cute ambience but literally the worst service I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Walked in at noon on a Saturday and were the first people on the restaurant. Weren't even greeted by an employee because none were visible until about 5 minutes after we walked in the restaurant. The waiter sat us and several people walked in amidst us getting our drink order taken. While the waiter was getting our drinks and took our food order (which he severely struggled through and was an extremely simple/straight forward order) several of the people who walked in earlier had left because of the amount of time that past before they even were greeted or had an order taken. My husband had a beer and mom had a dirty martini. Took 20 minutes after the drink order to even get them and once our food arrived, literally the smallest amount of fries as a side to our meals ever. The owner finally came in along with a couple other waitresses to help the one employee that originally was helping us. The owner came to apologize for the poor service and when we mentioned about the small portion size of fries, we also told her about the onion rings that were disgusting, and the clam chowder was awful. She was nice and took them off our bill but continued to make excuses as to why they weren't expecting a lunch crowd after St. Patrick's Day the night before. Super sad because it's a cute menu and adorable ambience, in downtown Adrian. But after being here a couple times with poor service, I can't say I'd be back. Don't recommend coming here. We are from Indiana and passing through Adrian and chose Hooligans for dinner. We were pleased by the inside decor and welcomed by the waiter. We arrived about 530 and was promptly waited upon and he was very polite. We waited in a fairly quiet dining room and surprised it was not busy at this time of night on a Friday. There was a bit of commotion from family members hanging at and behind the bar, one child obviously too young to do so. It was obvious, the bartender was the mother of the 2 girls, as she told one to stay off her phone if she was being paid to work. Eventually, she asked her daughter to make salads, which other employee helped her with, as they brought lettuce, tomatoes and cheese to the dining table across from us to cut the veggies on a mat that did not entirely cover her cutting area and both were using their bare hands to grab and place ingredients in bowls. The girl had been messing with her phone, fixing her hair and eating right before this. This was a big fat turn off doing this IN the dining area on a dining table right next to the bar. Doesnt appear to be any sanitizing standards. For this reason, it makes me question what else goes on and I would not recommend eating here. read more

Also, when I looked at the bill- we were charged $2.50 for the sides that went with 2 of the meals, both pasta. I wouldn't think a side came with but the waitress said to the kids, what side do u want so of course they said French fries. ( which we all got AFTER our "main course".) And then we were charged. So disappointed! We made reservations for our family of 8 to celebrate our daughter's graduation from Adrian College three weeks ahead of time. A voicemail left 6 days ahead of time. A nice char with Mallory 24 hours before our reservation time to confirm we were all set. Fast-forward to arrival at Hooligans after the graduation ceremony only to discover a sign on the door stating closed due to lack of staff. Really??? We understand "life" happens--especially with small businesses and Covid--but to not at least get a phone call??? Our reservations were for 6:30 PM on a Saturday. There was plenty of time for a phone call To just apologize and let us know of the situation. We visited at 5:00pm on a Sunday, immediately following a show at the Croswell. We were visiting from out of town and were not too familiar with places to eat in Adrian. I have to say, I sort of wish we had kept going to find another place. We were sat promptly, and greeted by an attentive waitress. She was a bright spot of the experience. We ordered the mussels appetizer to share, the Bohemian veggie burger and a chicken sandwich. The entrees were good. Although, the dressing for my side salad was completely coagulated from being too cold and also from the container not being shaken/stirred, so my husband kindly shared his dressing with me because his was usable. Minor minor thing, I know. But the real issue was the mussels app. For $15, we were given a giant bowl of tomato soup, 1 spoon, cold/bland bread, and 11 mussels- only 8 of which had opened. We ordered this because we felt that $15 for a plate of mussels was an average price for those that we had been served when we lived in Chicago. (We typically were given 18-20+ mussels for these dishes back in the city- 1-2 of which, at most, wouldn't have opened.) But here to essentially pay $15 for only 8 edible mussels was a bit absurd. We mentioned our slight annoyance to the waitress, and the manager/bartender was pulled in. He asked the chef and the chef explained that the cost was factoring in that some may not open. Sure, I've made mussels at home, and I get that not all of them open (and it's difficult to do anything about that), but when you are only served 11 and then only 8 are edible, that is a problem. The only solution to our annoyance that they offered was that statement from the chef. I'm not sure what we expected... It would have been nice to maybe just have a couple of dollars taken off the bill. I suggested that if one doesn't open, big deal, but when 30% of the dish doesn't open, you probably should just not put those on the plate to be served. The customer wouldn't feel like they were paying for something they couldn't eat then. Yes, it will take a second to filter those out, but when you are only giving customers 11 to begin with, filtering the mussels is not too much to ask. Also, when something is advertised as a mussels appetizer, don't make the bulk of the meal be tomato soup and bland cold bread, and don't serve the soup with just 1 spoon when it is an appetizer to be shared. Just a suggestion. The waitress was very apologetic and kind, and she passed along my suggestion of filtering out unopened ones to the manager/bartender. I doubt he relayed it back to the chef, but maybe he did? I think perception is everything, though, and taking those off the plate before we were served would have gone a long way as we wouldn't have known the difference then. It would have seemed expensive still to pay $15 for 8 mussels, but it felt deceptive that they filled the mussels plate with so much "filler food" and 30% of mussels that we couldn't eat. And for a restaurant with so many poor reviews, I would think they should care a little more about the customer experience. Another minor note: I'd imagine they get traffic after the Croswell shows. There were zero paper towels in the restrooms, and while minor, it seems like they were not prepared for the rush that they would likely get in that regard. The place was empty when we walked in, and quickly filled up after the show. I know it's a small thing, but if they would pay as much attention to these details as they did the beautiful decorating, it would go a long way in the experience of the customer. We plan to continue to visit the Croswell for shows, and I'm not sure if we feel comfortable recommending or visiting this restaurant in the future now. read more

I have been here about a half-dozen times by now. I am not sure if my expectations are just not as demanding as some or whether I am just lucky. Or I may just be the one who looks for the positives and has to have a really negative experience to walk away dissatisfied. But I have to say that I have not had a bad visit here. They have always been adequate or good. As such, the vehemently bad reviews this place garners perplex me in some ways. For one thing, this establishment has never been overly busy when I have been here. So perhaps it has now found its equilibrium business level beyond which the service staff cannot handle the load. But my service has never been bad. Some occasions have admittedly been better than others. And I do concede that I lower my expectations for service in Adrian (I have thoughts on that beyond the scope of this write-up). But by local standards, this place has been OK in that regard. The food has also generally been good and the menu selections are actually relatively creative at times. I like the atmosphere created by the vintage decor in their revamped building in a relatively older block of the business district. The location is great as I like frequenting the downtown area to eat (I prefer center city settings in most any town, not just in Adrian). I should mention, in addition, that it is my estimation that the prices are decently fair here. On our last visit, there were five of us. We had a Grilled Salmon Salad, an Orange Pecan Chicken Salad and a BBQ Chicken Rustic Pizza. A couple in our group were not terribly hungry so we shared those three things among us. This worked quite well. The food was, again rather tasty on this visit. With food, two drinks (three of us had just water), tax and tip, our final cost was $52. At just over $10 per person, this worked quite well. In general, I realize I am in the minority based on the reviews that I see on Yelp and other places, but I think Hooligan's is not bad. There is certainly room for improvement. Their kitchen is slow at times and the service is a little variable, though it has never been awful at any time for me. The prices are fair and the atmosphere is great. They'll continue to be an option for me as long as they are around. read more

Three of us went in October 2014 to grab drinks and dinner before a show at the Croswell ("Carrie"). We arrived about an hour and a half before the show and the restaurant was not busy at all (that should have been our first clue since they are right next door to the theater. JR's had been our first choice but people were lined up out the door there). We waited a good five minutes before being seated. The server came about ten minutes later and I asked if there was a drink menu. She looked at me like I was crazy and said, "We have a full bar." I said I meant did they have a specialty martini or seasonal drink menu. Again with the "full bar" answer. That server disappeared and we never saw her again. Someone different came and I asked about a martini...she said, "Oh would you like to see the drink menu?" OMG. The drink menu came and the choices all looked pretty good. Except champagne was MISSPELLED. Seriously??? I had the French 75 and it was okay, except every action was SOOOOO slow and the waitstaff was not attentive at all. I had a hamburger and it was okay. My two companions both had the fish special. (Which the server was unable to answer any questions about it. We really just wanted to know if it was fish and chips and it took 20 questions for the server to understand what we were asking.) The fish looked good and both people said it was very good. The only issue is that it was WAY overpriced for the size of the pieces of fish. There were two small, very thin pieces with a few french fries and it was $12. We eat out a lot and were by no means looking for all you can eat, but the portion was not commensurate with the price. Again, had to flag down the server to get the bill and then to pay. We were almost late to the show. I think the management is trying to provide an upscale experience in a town that doesn't have any options, and the interior IS beautiful, but they are not able to back up their prices with quality food and quality service. I tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt because there was a Coca-Cola machine catastrophe when we first walked in, but there were things on our food that were missing. We waited forever for our food because the waitress didn't tell us the kitchen was out of pasta so we had to wait for them to boil more. She was screaming profanity at her coworkers and the cooks. And the cooks were fighting with her back, in front of all of the guests. I'm giving 2 stars because the food was decent. The whole thing seemed like an SNL skit. I'll never be back. While we were there there were 2 other tables that got up and left and just left cash in the table because of how uncomfortable everyone was and how unprofessional that worker was being to everyone. read more

If you knew what I know, you probably would never step foot in there. The service was awful both times I have eaten there. Probably because the staff is always "new" and "in training" which tells me that for some reason, they are not able to keep employees for any period of time. The owner is not professional, and the "general manager" looks as if she just got out of high school, so I'm not sure how much experience she could possibly have. in the last week We chose this restaurant because it was close to the Croswell. The food was great, but the service was TERRIBLE, as in the WORST ever. Our server was new so I feel for her. However, the manager and the boss had to recalculate our bills no fewer than 4 times. On top of that, many of the staff members were talking about us because we were not happy as the manager tried to fix our bills. I guarantee if they had been in our places, they would have been unhappy, too. It is truly unfortunate that the service was so poor and the staff was so disrespectful. Went in there on 10-16-21 was seated fairly quickly and given water within 3-4 minutes. From there was strait down hill. Placed drink order (they were out of almost all beer on their menu), drinks never came before waitress came back and took our food order. The sat there 45 minutes and there was never any drinks brought out or the appetizer we ordered. We asked the waitress a couple times and was told they are coming right up. So 45 minutes after we ordered the waitress said what i ordered was out. So I changed my order and 30 minutes later still no drinks and no food. I then grabbed the attention of a waiter there and inquired about our food and he looked and said it was just put in. - There was ZERO apology from our waitress and i was told a manager was going to come talk with us but never did. We got our food (which was good) ate and then got the bill and paid. I left the lowest tip I've ever left because it was honestly the worst service experience I've ever had. Well, I said I'd never go back to this place, but I had to for a work function this week. The place was deader than a doornail at Friday happy hour time. I can see why. Again the one thing I wanted on the menu, bacon jam, they didn't have. Half the menus had stickers saying they no longer serve this item, but mine didn't. The friends that I was with we're trying to order tap beer. They have a list of like 16 or so beers I think, everything my friend asked for they said"we're out." So he ended up ordering something very very different than what. It wasn't great, and he ended up ordering bottled beer the second time around. Someone else in our party ordered the hummus, and the server responded"oh we ran out last night." Okay oh, I don't know if they make their own hummus, or buy something from the store, but it seems to me if you were heading into the weekend, even if something didn't come from your regular supplier you would pick up something local. Garbanzos are available at every store, and prepared hummus is available at every store. When that's the only close to healthy appetizer on your menu, it doesn't seem like you would start a weekend without it. Just dumb. Maybe somebody ordered wrong this week, and nobody took a proactive stance to fix it. But it says to me there is either a problem with management, kitchen staff or cash flow! Service was so so. To start off she wasn't around the table very much, and had gotten our drinks wrong. Appetisers came with the meal. And meal came over an hour after we ordered and we're late for my daughter's graduation. One of the meals were burnt. The waiter wasn't around during meal at all then when it came time to pay we split Bill and she charged the whole thing to my card. After taking 15 minutes to fix this we told them twice during our time that they were lacking service. We were the only ones there besides a couple at the bar. Then after explaining to the manager she did not care or apologize. She didn't discount or make up for these issues. read more
