Cozy coffee shop close to my workplace. Had a hot chocolate which wasn't anything special but good enough to keep me warm on a very cold afternoon. While the store is cozy, I have to agree with previous reviewers that the staff was uninterested and had to actually ask them to take my order. Better service would definitely make me a returning customer since I try to visit local coffee shops and not the big chain ones. read more

I love coffee shops that serve delicious chai bhakti, it just makes my day! This cafe is very popular with the locals and can easily be crowded with studious students with laptops open and studying away. If battery life ever runs low on your phone, computer or electronic device, not to worry because outlets are plentiful. The reason why I rate Hooked on Colfax so high is because of the location, ease of parking and variety of businesses that surround the area. From various restaurants to a hair salon to bars to a marijuana dispensary, how more eclectic can a neighborhood get! I love being able to sip a great chai coffee, study for hours and step out to find local eats! I frequent here often and on few occasions have waited patiently for patrons to liberate their occupied study quarters just so I can take their place. There are two basement rooms with separate entrance ways furnished with lovely comfy couches and a few good sized tables for groups of 2-3 to study easily. Three large sized boothes are on the main floor and are good for groups of 4+, however I highly recommend bringing a table lamp since it is quite dim in the booth seating area. The snack and sandwiches at Hooked on Colfax are nothing to rave about but if you come at 8am to stake out a spot without having eaten you're likely going to purchase something but it'll taste like nothing. read more

Atmosphere and Space: I have been here a couple of times to get some late-night emails pumping. The atmosphere is definitely relaxed. It is also a very huge space, so I do not think getting a space will be an issue. I usually go to the tables when you first immediately enter the establishment. There is also a back area and a basement area. Coffee Drinks: I usually get straight black coffee at coffee places; however, I decided to be adventurous and get a latte (soy milk). I was definitely disappointed. It tasted really burnt. I am not too sure if that is the standard taste (I hardly get lattes in general). But I am pretty sure that their black coffee tastes decent. Non-Coffee Drinks: Their cookies are hit or miss, cookies immediately from the oven tasted awesome, but cookies that have lingered, were kinda hard and stale. I also had two of their smoothies -- Acai and Banana/Strawberry. The Acai one was really good but the Banana/Strawberry one was kinda meh (on the menu I believe it says "freshly squeezed apples, or something like that, and I saw the server poured regular apple juice from the fridge...). Staff: The staff are pretty friendly and I have not had a negative experience with any of them. Overall: If I am near Colfax and need to go to a late night study place close to where I live, I would come here. read more

awesome!!! first time coming here and being the airhead that I am completely forgot my wallet...I offered to pay with a check and instead the barista suggested I just "owe them". what great service to a first time customer. I'm coming back tomorrow to pay for my drink and add a generous tip. how nice :) read more

Hooked on Colfax - great Yerba matte latte and great study environment - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Hooked on Colfax is a wonderful coffee shop! It's right off Colfax. It's a small place but easy to enjoy. Very intimate. I loved the menu. Lots of light options. The coffee is great too. If you are looking for something unique, intimate and refreshing this place is great. read more

Hooked has friendly, knowledgeable baristas and magical bakers that cater to any and all dietary restrictions. Love this place.

Short and simple: support your local coffee spot. Asked barista what was good and he made me what his favorite drink was. Highly affordable with a nice ambiance to collect your thoughts and maybe do some studying or reading. I will be back to hangout in the near future. read more

Good place to read, surf the net, meet friends or just drink your coffee. Or beer...which is awesome that they offer not only the usual and unusual coffee house vitals, but a selection of beer too. There is a wonderful feeling of community. Everytime I stop in, I see someone I know. There's a cozy downstairs that has couches and sunlight! And the garage door front makes for a wonderful outdoors feeling in warmer weather. read more

The wifi works, the coffee is tasty, and the service friendly. All of the indoor seating was taken up by people working or studying, so outside to the front patio it was. Not quite as conducive to getting work done, but fortunately the weather was beautiful. Do note that the chai has quite a bit of spice to it. I ended up cutting it with a shot of espresso, which was quickly made and delicious. Plus points for paying with square, and while we didn't try the pastries, they did look quite good. read more

You'll get great service here, delicious pastries, an abundance of smiles all around, and a perfect atmosphere to either get things done or socialize. Definitely try the scones, they're scrumptious. This is on my top 5 favorite Denver coffee shops list for sure. read more

Had me a dirty chai. The tea was fresh, fresh, fresh. Pastries are made there, this double chocolate strawberry was quite good. Staff was super friendly. read more

Loved the house made chocolate latte! I don't think I've had a mocha this good! Delicious

Had a mocha latte and the chocolate was perfect. Made with care and love. Great local spot. Next time I'm in Denver I'll be back for more.

Stopped here for a cup of java after dinner one night. They have a pretty extensive list of coffee drinks and they made a delightful cortado. I ordered it with a pump of pistachio and really didn't taste the pistachio so that was a bit of a let down. The girl wasn't too personable but extra personable for a hipster so bonus points for that because that's like running into a unicorn! I dig that they have two spots to sit in along with garage doors that are up when it's nice out. I would stop here again if I was in the area and in need of some coffee but wouldn't make it a point to stop here. read more

Didn't try the food or coffee but the tea is delicious! Great atmosphere and quiet enough to get work done. Not overly crowded either and complimentary WiFi! read more

This mom and pop coffee joint is amazing! Half of the place is a coffee shop and the other half is a bar type of a place that you can enjoy a treat or drink. The iced mocha and I also got an iced tea which was very good. The two workers were very helpful and recommended getting these two drinks when I came in. read more

House made chocolate mocha was decadent and creamy and smoothie was refreshing and not overly sweet. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options for drinks and baked goods. Good place with outlets to study or just relax. Very friendly staff! Misha was funny and helpful in planning some good stops and hiking options in Denver. And while she helped us, she was baking delicious smelling muffins! read more

Solid atmosphere, delicious Mocha. Would have given it 5 stars, but it was a little Spency ($4.70 for a 16 oz drink). Has a small back patio for nice days. Edited to 5-stars since apparently all Mochas are around $5 these days. No reason to doc them a star for being priced to the market. read more

This place is a great neighborhood favorite. The baristas are nice, the coffee is pretty good, and the atmosphere is relaxed. They also serve beer, so you can come here and enjoy beverages perfect for any time of the day. If I wanted an excellent cup of coffee, I might go elsewhere, but if you're just looking for something that provides "good" all around, this is the place. read more

A nice little surprise on Colfax! I went here so I could use my soon to expire Fika coffee passport, and to be honest I really didn't have the highest expectations prior to visiting. This place totally proved me wrong though! You have to park on the street here, and I had no issues finding a free parking spot across the street when I visited. Not sure if the parking availability varies depending on the time of the week or not. I ended up ordering two iced lattes--one chocolate, and one with Irish cream syrup. And whoa, they both were really good. Definitely would recommend trying one of these flavors. They have a nice amount of seating too. A few outdoor spots, and then two separate rooms with tables to sit at. One of the rooms has a number of booths, which I think is awesome, especially if you have come here to work, or are just hanging out with a friend and want a little bit of privacy. It's a nice place to check out if you are in the area. read more

The coffee was good, but honestly, the service was awful. It took forever and the barista was SUPER rude.

Love this coffee shop! Quality coffee drinks. Great place to sit and read or hang out. I stayed in Denver about a block away and came here almost every morning because I liked it so much. I love when they have the garage door open and it lets all the fresh air in. There is outdoor seating too. I got sick here one time (too many edibles from down the street :/ ) and the staff was right behind me cleaning up, and super friendly about it even though I felt awful. Thanks! Will definitely be back to visit this shop when I'm in town. read more

Dirty chai was pretty good and the scenery is sooo nice. I feel like not on Halloween it would be more crowded because it was so cool. Got a whole booth to study I'll definitely be going back read more

Favorite coffee shop ever I come her almost daily I absolutely freaking love it :) the staff is cool the coffee is great smithies are great tea is great the price is fair they have vegan regular and gluten free food that is phonomanal and at night they serve alcohol and have two downstairs areas a front and back patio and two plit sections and some bars to sit at tons of local artists come and some movies and other cool events happening here as well definitely the best coffee shop around by far bar none read more

Now here is a coffess house that knows how to make great drinks. I personally like their spicy chai with rice milk, and that's not something you can get anywhere. The food, the service, the opportunity to just sit and relax in a neighborhood friendly place, along with a really cool meeting space downstairs. This is what you long for when you just want to chill out! read more

It's funny, reading the few negative reviews I find myself really wanting to leap to HOC's defense. I can't argue against the possibility that one or two people might have had a bad experience on an occasion or two, but after literally hundreds of hours spent here, I can say that this is fundamentally a five star spot. I've been coming here for 7 years and it has never let me down. The coffee, beer, and food itself has always kept me happy, the seating is ample, even before the expansion, including front and back patios. There are outlets everywhere. The staff have always been friendly and flexible, in all sorts of ways- not only normal nice things like catering to strange food requests or accommodating me when I forgot my wallet but even serving as unofficial mentors to homeless folks and folks with mental illness who stop in. Seriously, I've watched them give free coffees and also set firm boundaries to one particular guy who can sometimes be really obnoxious but is ultimately very lovable and loving. The owners support all sorts of community efforts that I and others have approached them with, including regular events in their basement. The baristas set aside their coffee ground bags in the back for myself and others to use in our backyard composts, which feels emblematic, because Hooked on Colfax is vital part of the neighborhood ecosystem. Long live Hooked on Colfax! read more

Love this place. Alittle bit pretentious but still a nice place to hang and do work or catch up with people. Great tea and chai and smoothies (though they are a bit pricey, they are big!). I go here about once a week and the staff is consistently mediocre, not rude but not friendly either. Would recommend! read more

Great little spot on Colfax. Coffee is always good. Espresso drinks, iced coffee, and drip coffee are all equally good. Staff is always friendly and generally quick. They can get bogged down when the espresso drink orders get backed up. Also, they have a liquor license with a great selection of craft beers, whiskeys, wine, etc. Nice to stop by there for a drink. Only complaint is the baker. Their scones and muffins are great, but lately nothing is ready when I stop by at 7:30am (they open at 7AM). Strange that breakfast baked goods wouldn't be ready when they open. Kinda bums me out to get a coffee and no breakfast. Hopefully they buy their in house baker a better alarm clock. read more

We do like Conscious coffees and their espresso, and we have patronized Hooked on Colfax probably 25 times in the past 2+ years because it is the only independent coffee shop nearby. (St. Mark's is too loud, and the Amsterdam Cafe closed down.) "Thump," on Downing and 13th is also an expensive coffee shop, but Hooked on Colfax is the most expensive coffee shop we've been to in Denver and we have been to them all: $3.20 for a small Americano. That is ridiculous. The owners are very nice but a couple of the baristas are less than personable and honestly, quite snobby at times. Yes, again, Conscious coffees are a cut above, but Kaladi Bros. and Coda coffees are of an even higher quality. And Pablo's espresso is numero uno, in our subjective opinion. The shop does a brisk business so they will not miss us whatsoever. read more

HoC is like catnip for laptop fiends. On any given day you will find people aplenty working away on projects, research, community events, etc. The space is quite conducive for working and admiring the eclectic mix of artwork on both sides of the seating area. I would often visit here to purchase bulk coffee beans from their fair trade source that makes my mouth water just thinking about it! Head on down to HoC with your laptop, or without it, and enjoy the musings of the shop and Colfax Avenue. read more

I still love this place. Walked here today and spent some quality time on one of the five comfy couches in their basement. The baristas are friendly every single time I come here for a caffeine fix (which is relatively a lot, seeing how I am almost through the third row of my frequent buyer punch card). The decor of Hooked on Colfax's new space is more modern and "clean" compared to their old location at 3215 E. Colfax Ave. Although, no need to fret, you can still sink in to an overstuffed couch if you head to their basement, which marches to a completely different drummer than the upstairs design. Beware, there is a woman who uses their basement for her Spanish tutoring sessions. I didn't bring my headphones today, so I couldn't block her voice out, so it was a little like listening to someone talk on their phone very loudly the entire time, since the conversation was pretty one sided and her student was super soft spoken. The good thing is that I brushed up on the difference between, "cuando" and "donde." And then, right when I thought I was in the clear and he left, her next student arrived! read more

The first place that I've been to in Denver that offered Iced Yerba Mate Lattes. The burritos are good too. I used to come here a lot then I moved across town. If you live in this area it is a great spot. Always had friendly service. read more

I get coffee here several times a week and about half the time get breakfast as well. The burritos leave a little to be desired, but the baked goods are perfect. I was on a non-coffee thing for awhile they their smoothies are great too, and they have protein powder which can go in any of them. Nice staff, interesting rotating local art, and a neat patio area (Pro Tip: That's where you go to use your cell phone; I wanted to type that in call caps but I'm polite, unlike cell phone talkers inside). read more

I really want to like this place because it's so close to me and the people are great there. Today was my second time there and my cold brew was just meh. Not really strong and pretty acidic for my liking. I also got a cheddar black pepper scone as a snack which was so incredibly dry and crumbly that it was hard to eat - most of it ended in the trash. For $7.50 for snack and a coffee, I just expect more. There are so many good places around and it just doesn't seem like this is "my place". read more

I love this little coffee shop! It's way less crowded and uber-trendy than City O' City, quieter and friendly than Paris on the Platte, comfier than Penn Street Perk, cheaper than Caribou Coffee and tastier than most of them. *It also doesn't smell like patchouli butthole. This place is very cozy and warmly lit, and their seasonal Pumpkin Latte is beyond delicious. This joint is an ideal place for quiet studying or reading. The only place I don't groan over being in while my boyfriend ignores me for his political internet blogs! read more

I love Hooked on Colfax, and they just expanded their space so it has double the seating and more menu items are coming soon. If you want a fab place to work in quiet, or to reserve for event space, check out their basement - a well kept secret. Today they were baking all these delicious buttery flakey carmelized rolls. I had to run before I ordered four of them. I stuck to the lox on a tomato cheddar bagel, which was nice and fresh, tons of capers. I'd love to see more breakfast sandwich variety and more menu items, but I know these are coming SOON. I love their slick iPad payment gateway. 2914 Coffee and Hooked on Colfax are officially my FAVORITE Denver coffee shops. Go there now, sip & enjoy!! read more
