We had one night to go out before more family came and so we choose hooked to have one good meal we knew would be pricey but was Recommended to us from a local friend. We also checked the reviews and felt confident in our choice, since it had four stars. I am not sure if it was because we got there late, but in my opinion it doesn't deserve four stars because I'd expect better quality and consistency for the price. First disappointment, they didn't have any of the complimentary bread (we were told they ran out). Ordered sweet tea, Shirley temples, fried oysters, boom boom shrimp, mussels, shrimp and fish tacos, 3 crab bisque, grilled octopus, and crab dip for our appetizers. For a meal we ordered the scallops, summer chicken bucatini, and cioppino. The goods: fish and shrimp tacos, boom boom shrimp was delish, the crab bisque was amazing, the scallops were good, and the chicken bucatini was delish. Shirley temples were good. The bad: they brought unsweet tea and then when I informed them they said they'd get sugar but they should have just told us they didn't have sweet tea. The friend oysters were itty bitty, and even being itty bitty they were all just breading and no oyster. Not at all worth $18. Probably the most disappointing I've ever had. Mussels were ok, but we were charred $3 for extra bread that didn't even arrive and crazy we were charged extra for one piece of bread when they didn't even have our complimentary bread. Crab dip never came. Grilled octopus was ok but chewy. The Cioppino had a good flavor broth but the seafood inside was way over cooked. The shrimp and fish was rubbery. One of our party members asked if they make it with all the left over seafood from the day before. So overall, it was ok. There were dishes we would order again and then others that were very very disappointing. I am a little disappointed. Service was great and very attentive but after seeing all the good reviews about this place I would think the food would be at its best quality. Unfortunately, I was not a big fan of the food. The quantity was enough to feed four people but I did not enjoy the quality for the price I was paying for. We ordered the calamari and mussels appetizer, cioppino, green asparagus side (not featured in the pictures), crab bisque, and Spring Chicken Bucatini. The cioppino barely had any seafood in it and the majority was soup. The flavor was very salty. The calamari was good but it was soaked in too much spicy mayo. It was my fault for not asking the spicy mayo to be on the side but since there was so much spicy mayo, it felt soft and barely had any crunch. The spring chicken bucatini had a really good portioning but it tasted very bland. It tasted like normal carbonara with some sauce and chicken. The mussels appetizer was all right but it did not stand out, it felt like the standard normal appetizer. The green asparagus and crab bisque was good. Our family enjoyed those 2 dishes the most but were disappointed with our main courses. The green asparagus featured bacon and a side sauce that was surprisingly really delicious. We did arrive a little later than usual dinner time (8:30 pm) and missed out on the soft shell crab special, it ran out by the time we arrived. First stop on our trip in OC. Very nice atmosphere and only had to wait about 30mins on a Sunday evening which wasn't bad because there are some cute shops on either side of the restaurant. They had outdoor seating as well as indoor- we sat upstairs in a booth. Food was very good. The shrimp and grits was extremely flavorful and my fiancé loved his swordfish that was blackened to perfection. Only reason for four stars is because our waitress didn't seem like she wanted to be there however, the service was efficient because we got our food quickly. Even though it was 6.30 on a Monday and there were vacationers all around, we were sat to a table immediately outside as we requested. The waiter was very attentive all through the night and he gave us a lot of options. The menu was limited which was fine with me. I picked the crispy skin salmon with orzo and braised shortrib ($24) with a raspberry shandy. Amazing ,delicious meal. This visit was my first time in this location since La Hacienda moved to Ocean Pines many years ago. Hooked has a solid reputation in OC and we were not disappointed. Even in the cold off-season (December) the restaurant was packed full of happy, hungry customers. The seafood dishes we samples were very good - scallops in particular. I ordered a NY Strip and it was also well prepared (which is notable for a seafood place). They also had a great deal on fish tacos, which were tasty and filling. First place me and the lovely wife visited in Ocean City and couldn't be happier. We were seated upon arrival. Waitress was awesome and friendly. We shared the crab dip which came with fresh baked pretzel logs. Delicious! I also had the calamari which was outstanding and my favorite so far in OC. We went to Hooked last night, it is very cute place and had a nice atmosphere. Waiter was very friendly but the service was off. First we ordered drinks and food together because it was already late and he said it could take a half hour for the food. But them he proceeded to help 2 other tables. So they all got their drinks and food way before us, even though we had been there significantly longer. And our drinks took a really long time even though there were two bars. (Tip to the restaurant- have the outside bar make the drinks for the outside tables.). When our food arrived, everything was delicious but our cold raw tuna appetizer arrived with the hot main meals! Kitchen/ wait staff should time things better. Overall the food was delicious though. We had a grilled mahi, fish a chips, and a burger. All excellent. This is a nice restaurant. And they really did handle it well, so I am still giving them 4 stars. Among our party, we ordered the caprese salad with a side of fries, 2 vegetarian plates, and the crab cake, served on a corn puree with potatoes, peas, and tomatoes. Everything was top notch! In case you're wondering what the vegetarian entree is (I couldn't find it described in any reviews), I think it may change seasonally. When we were there, it was a vegetable medley including: patty pan squash, brussel sprouts, tomatoes, red pepper, corn, and a pesto sauce. BTW, I don't even like seafood, but I tasted the crab cake and it was SO good that I think I may get it next time! My sister and I ordered the grapefruit and orange crushes (drinks) respectively. Both were boozy and sweet, but not too sweet. We both preferred the grapefruit. I am saving the best part of the review for last: the dessert! You MUST get some. We tried the coconut cake and the berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. The cobbler was very good, although their wasn't much crumble, mostly fruit and melty ice cream (not necessarily a bad thing). However, the coconut cake was to die for! It was better than any wedding cake I have tried. Dense cake, creamy frosting, not overly coconutty- we literally scraped the plate clean! TIP- the lunch and dinner menu are pretty much the same, except lunch portions are smaller and the prices are cut in half! We stopped here a few years ago by happenstance, and now we make sure to stop here every year. Every year we get the calamari, crab chowder, and crab dip as appetizers. They can't be beat. As for the mains--we'll try new things, and they never disappoint! Last night I had the scallops and Scott had the crab cakes, Deegan had the cioppino, and Connor had the grilled Mahi Mahi. Definitely recommend you sit in the outside bar area. They have outdoor fans and because it's in the shade, it's a bit cooler. Had the flatbread, hot wings and boom boom shrimp. The flatbread is pretty small, but worth it. Comes out in four even slices. It had chunks of fresh crab meat, some sort of corn chowder, truffle oil and little bits and pieces of bacon. Yum! The shrimp just tasted like your usual fried shrimp topped in spicy mayo, but how can you go wrong with that?! Whatever you do, make sure you get the hot wings. This particular Friday night was 3 courses for $30. We were thinking that the portions would be small... to the contrary. We each ordered a different appetizer: crab dip, calamari and boom boom shrimp. Delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my entree, Salmon, and my sister had the crab cakes which I tasted, goooodd! We visited Hooked on a family beach trip to OCM. It was WONDERFUL! We had a party of 7 and were seated in about 20 minutes (much better than another restaurant that gave a 1.75 hour wait). We sat in their upstairs area which was super nice. They provided complimentary bread delivered with our drink orders. We ordered appetizers of the crab dip and calamari- both were excellent! My husband and I both had their Porter beer and gave it a thumbs up, dark and sweet. Between the members of our group we tried Shrimp and Grits, Basil Encrusted Tuna, Crispy Alaskan Salmon, Cioppino, kids fried fish and kids mac and cheese with fries. My friends and I came to OC to spend a weekend at the beach. As I was looking for a lunch spot, I found Hooked filtering by "most reviewed" on Yelp which usually indicates popularity. It was pretty empty when we walked in which was pretty alarming given the positive reviews. However, the service was good and we all enjoyed the food we ordered. One thing that left me puzzled about this place was the prices. I had the fish and chips ($12), my friends had Braised beef short ribs ($13) and pan roasted French cut chicken breast ($23). While the first two dishes were in the same range, somehow the chicken breast was double the price? Better be some organic and super special chicken breast!
