THIS is THE place for fish and chips in London! I ate dinner here for the second time during my most recent trip to London. Hook is located in Camden conveniently close to the tube stop - very easy to get to. The ambiance is hip and slightly modern. Hook takes the classic fish and chips and elevates it with a creative twist. Of course, if you are looking for a classic fish and chips, you can get that here. But you will also find a variety of alternative fish and chips on the menu - cajun, lemon basil tempura, and a few specials of the day, all of which come with a fun homemade sauce that's not just your average tartar sauce. I came here with my boyfriend and sister. We ordered the cajun, curry spice, and squid ink fish and chips (the latter two were specials that day). All were great, we couldn't agree on a favorite. Across all the dishes the fish was super flaky and the outside was crispy. The chips are also some of the best but lacked a little salt. At £13-£14 a dish, Hook isn't cheap. But the fish is sustainably sourced and the flavors are fantastic - rest assured you will be getting some great fish and chips if you dine at Hook!

    Seabream and Classic...very good!

So glad we stopped at this fish and chip. My son who doesn't eat seafood or very much fish came to London and fell in love with fish and chips. We have been to Poppies and a couple of other places but Hook is his favorite!!! Definitely try the sea bream...

I ordered the classic panko fish and chips and the calamari small plate to share. The fish and chips were tasty and fresh. Service was a little slow, but there were only two people serving a full room. Decor inside is cute and clean!

I got your basic panko breaded haddock with tartar sauce and chips. My husband got lemon basil fish with garlic truffle mayo, a side of calamari rings, a raspberry lemonade with vodka, and an Epic Saison. When the order came to the table (quickly, I might add) I thought there was no way we could finish it all - but we did. And it was ALL delish. Nice interior, cheerful service, decent prices for the portion sizes. My husband would pass on the beer, though - don't read the copy on the bottle!

So I'm pretty disappointed in this place after being really excited to try it because of all the unique flavor choices. I think if you have obvious first time customers, and from the US mind you.. that you should mention that if they're ordering the fish & chips and it's not cod or haddock which all fish & chips tend to be just about anywhere in the World... . Please INFORM THEM. I ordered this lemon/basil fish & chips and it was not at all good. They used a fish called Sea Bream I believe after reading the reviews. I felt so sorry for myself that I didn't read the reviews previous to ordering this. That's not my job though. It's the servers responsibility to tell me since it's not at all listed anywhere on the latest menu they're giving out. It was fishy, still had the skin attached which was gross to me because of the fishiness it was already giving. This in particular fish is NOT GOOD for frying. It soaked up way too much oil because of its more meaty texture that In my opinion is only good for grilling, baking, broiling or WHATEVER else in the World besides frying. I know this place is probably good because I watched the people next to me tearing the shit up out of their fish which from looking at it was Panko crusted nice & flaky. PROBABLY THE COD OR HADDOCK. They were nodding their heads and looking at each other like .. mm, good right?! Yeah thumbs up. Yum! Yum! Lol oh my god. Sigh. What a damn shame. Giving 2 stars because the fries were delicious and I liked sitting by the door on those comfortable booths people watching, but my fish really sucked and I came all the way on the tube from St John's Wood to Camden Town just to try this place. Thats 3 lines, 2 changes and 11 stops. #TUBEWORLDPROBLEMS

Woah. I'm totally hooked. (see what I did there?) This is the best fish and chips in London. Seriously, it is sooo good. You can choose traditional fish and chips OR go with some of their gorgeous sounding (and super tasty) more original flavours. Both fish were good naked, but were *amazing* once you add their sauces. We chose one panko, and one tempura: - Lemon & Fennel Panko Hake with Seaweed Salted Chips & Lemon & Basil Sauce (£10) - Lime, Mint & Wasabi Tempura of Seabream with Seaweed Salted Chips & Basil Chilli Sauce (£12) * We both liked the tempura version more than the panko (it wasn't really panko...it was just normal breadcrumbs - I guess they want to sound more posh!?) * The chips were sooo good. I love using nori for seasoning...and there were so many that it is impossible to finish a whole portion. * They use lots of different types of sustainable fish - so you can keep trying now types and discover that you love them ALL! * I looooved their sauces. * The home-made lemonade was delicious too (I tried lime and mint) I'll definitely go back, and you should go and try it too!!

Hook is awesome for so many reasons. Let me count the ways: 1) They promote sustainable fishing. 2) Their fish and chips are great. 3) They have a great beer selection. 4) Staff is friendly. 5) They have vinegar in spray bottles. I had the tempura battered lemon/basil sea bream (aka porgy). Fried perfectly. Not too greasy. Big filet slices. Tons of fries. The decor of the place is also cool, and it's great for groups.

Fish day at Hook Camden. Recommended by many famous bloggers as I has wanted food in Camden which is sometimes a bit ponderous. The venue is bigger than you think but the main space to left and right near Windows is more airy and light than the back bit. Not the most definitive decor or identity if I'm truthful. Not much to give a story about themselves. Though I like sometimes like the idea of it being less 'selly'. Fish ranges from cod, haddock, pollock and coley. Haddock is a particular fav of mine and I know coley to be not the most favoured fish. I choose Hand cut chips, mint mushy peas with Argentinian Panko & chimichurri sauce. Portion is bigger than you realise upon arrival (and delving deep into it all). They do need bigger boxes which act as your plates as it is a bit cramped and the paper tears underneath and it is tough to grab flakey fish with a fork thereafter. Chips or wedge I'd say are a clear winner. Handcut and plenty of them. The minty mushy peas (each got one as a side) are not as flavoursome as I would have hoped. Prefer just a standard chip shop or out of tin mushy peas. I like that the fish is sustainable and that it is all not greasy at all. So much different and cleaner feel than going to a chip shop. The fish I had was good. Very light. I think this is all because of the Panko batter. Or breadcrumb if you will. It's much healthier and much lighter thus its emphasis is on the fish itself. The Panko adds a little texture and flavour. It was interesting to see fish being flavoured with breadcrumbs and I applaude this type of thinking for something deemed conventional. My Argentinian sauce was by far the best one we tried. Others good but this one stood out. My friends liked their fish of classic and Ethiopian. The sauces really added purpose and flavour as a side to the dish so impressed by these sauces esp the Argentinian one. It's defo one to go check for yourself. I myself will come back and try the flavoured tempura fish versions I think which use sea bream and see how different they are.

We came to try this place after seeing it on Guy Fieri. Pretty good...their fish is fried with panko, but it's not overly thick batter. Their chips..for some reason is so addicting. They provide vinegar sprays? New concept for us, we're used to the bottles!

The best fish and chips I had in London. Ever. What more to say...: God service, patient, smiling, fun and engaged. We ended up having a bit of a chat about places to visit when in Copenhagen and vice versa when in London. Really good food. Really good.

"Oh my goodness! That was the best fish and chips I've ever had". Says everyone ever. I always do a little smile every time I bring friends, family, work colleagues here as they absolutely love it, but I mean who doesn't! I'm totally in love with Hook if you hadn't guessed. Not in a first love, its over before you know it novelty way but in a golden wedding anniversary way where I want to keep coming here every day for the rest of my life. Trust me, its that good. The staff here are super friendly, they have a great craft beer selection too and are happy to talk about any new beers/breweries they are selling. In fact, I found my beloved Cloudwater brewery as the result of a recommendation through the team at Hook. I've met one of the owners too at Taste of London, what a nice chap. They're just a bunch of very down to earth, genuine, friendly/happy people and you definitely feel that when you arrive. The food, well what can I say. Its not your usual fish and chips from your local chippy, it definitely has a twist to it but its good to try something a bit different every now and again. Whichever fish you try, whether that's the panko breadcrumbs style or tempura batter it will melt and flake in your mouth. Great flavours too from lemon and basil tempura style to Argentinan panko. Yum! The chips are different too, flat seaweed salty chips (you can't taste the sea honest) and the portions are always extremely generous. I'm a sauce fiend so the mix and match of 6 option is always a winner and you know what I hate more than anything...Calamari! I always have and always will BUT bizarrely I always eat it when I come here. Its so damn good! They must have slipped something in to my drink...or again it could just be the melt in your mouth taste. If you follow Hook on Instagram too you might see a cheeky 50% off offer on Mondays every now and again but I'm reluctantly telling you this as I'm worried that on my regular Monday club trips I won't get a seat but that's the beauty of Yelp I guess...sharing is caring!

Bad service, never came to check on us or give us refills. Had to go up to booth in order to ask for refills. Fish and chips were bland and not very flavorful.

Stunning fish and chips for only £10. Panko breadcrumbed haddock with lemon and basil sauce accompanied by proper chips! The restaurant has a very cool vibe and I loved the benched seating. Busy for a Friday afternoon but service was very friendly and fast. The food was delicious. Crispy coated fish with an interesting tangy sauce. Would have loved to have tried the jerk ling but I was completely stuffed after my haddock. Definitely worth the walk from Camden Market to find this place, will be back again!

Good fish and chips although it wasn't all that authentic. The fish was breaded with panko and the chips were basically home fries.

I had…read moreread about this restaurant in some top 10 lists for foodies visiting London and was dying to check it out. First, it's not in the busy part of London where you would expect a restaurant of this caliber to be but rather it is in a very blue-collar neighborhood on the south side of London. It is a VERY cozy place with only seven tables but that is how they keep the quality and experience so great. The decor is as if you are on an old fishing ship. Reservations are highly recommended but we got there right when they opened (7pm) and thankfully they let us have a table. After being seated the hostess showed us the days specials and they ranged from fantastic scallops to lobster with every choice as good as the last. My wife and I chose the Chef's Choice 8 course dinner. The dinner comprised of a delicious sardine sandwich followed by a fillet of night perch which was then followed by lobster that melted in your mouth. Then we had a pallet cleanser of a light peach sorbet with a shot of vodka poured over it. The meal resumed with a grilled piece of pork belly (I got the "meat" choice) while my wife had a grilled hallibut (she got the "fish" choice). The next course was a warmed cheese (I believe it was gruyere) in pastry accompanied by a small mixed green salad with aged balsamic. The dessert courses were a delicious crepe with creme bruille filling and the end course was a pear puree along with a chocolate pudding with a hint of mint. We loved this place even though the name sort of threw us off at first. When you hear "The Lobster Pot" I imagine a bunch of seniors getting off a day-tour bus to a casino at a truck stop or something but this experience was far from what I first imagined. I would highly recommend spending some of your tourist dollars here at this restaurant.
