Always our favorite place to eat catfish! Not today though. I substituted the fries for salad and glad I did. That was the best part of my meal, even though the lettuce had a bunch of brown cut ends. I commented to my husband that the fried catfish was super white and didn't taste like catfish. He said his didn't taste at all. Neither did his fries or hush puppies. There was no salt or other seasoning on anything. Also, everything was very chewy. Weird. We haven't been here in a couple of years and guess this was our last time. So sad Hook, Line, and Sinker. NORMALLY, this is one of my favorite places to eat, a go-to, top of the list, particularly on the way home from work or a long drive because of the friendliness of those taking my orders on the phone, cooks, servers, and managers, whether I eat in or usually take out. I have taken friends, visitors and recommended it many times previously with gladness. NORMALLY, even when I have had to hold for a short time on the phone in placing my order, the management has been kind enough to at minimum say 'I'm sorry for the wait' or comp me in my order. It has been on fewer occasions that I have had to wait. Actually, when they see my number ring, they call me by name in answering and usually know what I want to order. NORMALLY, I enjoy any and everything I have from this establishment, which I have patronized for 16 years; however, tonight, Monday, January 15, 2023, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Holiday, around 6:30 pm, was the WORST experience ever with this establishment; thus, moving me to really come to a point of severing patronage with the establishment most likely on permanent basis. The supposed manager for the evening, Yurisa, took my call and asked me to hold. Being that the establishment is less than two miles from where I live, I said "sure" and drove there, still on hold. NORMALLY, by the time I place my order by phone and drive there, it's ready., 10 minutes tops. But this time, I was still on hold when I arrived. So, with phone in hand I went to the window and waited for her to pick up the call. When she finally got back to the call now going on 6+ minutes, she asked me for my order and I said, "As I look at you here in the window now, I would like to place an order for". She looked up , saw me, cut me off mid-sentence and placed me on hold again. At that point, I'm hot, pissed and insulted because of her disregarding and disrespectful action. She took someone else's order at the desk, filled another waiting customers order. Then, took another order of a person I know and recognize who happened to be eating there too. When she finally came to the window, which was now 8 minutes in by my phone's timer, she asked what I wanted to order. I tried to show her how long I had been on hold but she was not interested and asked me if I was going to place an order. She even had the nerve to say to me, "We take orders first come first serve". To which I responded "I've been here with you for nearly 8 minutes now!" Again I said yes to placing an order, and tried to again cite my dismay with having to hold first. She asked again was I going to order and refused to listen to what I was saying. Then without taking my order or hearing me out as a customer, she closed the window on me. There was NOT an overwhelming line inside for orders. Another customer for pick up offers to place my offer and even attempted to do so; however, she told him and I heard it, "I'm not taking his order." He didn't understand. So, he asked again and she repeated it even if he just wanted to place the order for me. After such I inquired for a manager. No answer from her or any worker. Thus, I go inside to inquire again. A worker inquires on my behalf although he did not speak English well. She answered him and repeated that she was not taking my order. I asked her her name and hope I have spelled it correctly. Although upset, I left the establishment at that point; however, I definitely wanted to share this extraordinarily disappointing and disgusting experience with and forewarn any future patrons to beware of the service and phone order manners of Yurisa. She may not be good for what NORMALLY is a good business that has lost a very loyal customer. read more

Good food, mediocre service I invited a group of friends for dinner to this place. We ordered main dishes and appetizers. One of the appetizers arrived when we were almost done with dinner. The main dishes did not arrive together. Some of us had to wait a long time for the others to receive their food so we can eat together. It seems that the waiting staff are not trained properly; I asked for tortilla chips with my shrimp cocktail and the waitress said "yes, I will get some". I never got it, so I asked her again on her next visit to our table, and she said the same thing. Low Key - Blues Blasting - Fried Oysters - Beer! Once again, a wonderful time I had at HLS last night! It is such a great place to drop in for a quick seafood bite! Between the time of ordering to when my food actually appears, an achievement it is to grab a table! No worries, the turnover time is fast! Alas, ready to eat! Their perfectly battered fried oysters never disappoints! As for their grilled salmon platter, the fish was moist and delicious, the zucchinis were nicely grilled, but I wasn't fond on the flavored rice! Had dinner here and it was pretty terrible. Got the half pound seafood boil and three filet basket. The fish was fried well and very crispy (and not overly oily) but SO bland. Was in desperate need of seasoning. The fries and hush puppies were pretty good. The boiled shrimp was also quite lackluster with no seasoning whatsoever and the boiled potato and corn that came along with it were very bland as well. We got cocktail sauce and tartar sauce but unfortunately that wasn't enough to salvage the meal. What a disappointment. Nice outdoor seating and good service though. It's very similar to Aw/Big Shucks in terms of food and atmosphere. If you want a laid back and super casual seafood place in uptown, here you go. My Overall Rating - 3 1/2 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Imagine a wooden shack on a pier that serves fried seafood. Now take the peir away and and put it in Dallas, and you get Hook, Line, and Sinker. It's a quick serve place where you order at the counter and then pick it up when ready. There's outdoor seating and an extra window to order. The setting fits, but it's really small and doesn't always seem clean. Expect the crowd to double during lent season too. 1/2 Star. Service - No problems here. We ordered and usually they call you or give you a buzzer. It wasn't too busy on our trip, so the food was brought out to us and tables cleared pretty quickly. They turn tables pretty fast too, so they're on point when getting folks settled in. Good stuff here. 1 Star. Food - Each table has about 7-8 bottles of assorted hot sauces and seasoning, later I figured out why. Hook, Line, and Sinker focuses a lot of fried seafood baskets. We ordered the shrimp & catfish basket + fried pickles, shrimp basket, and shrimp cocktail. The seafood comes out super fresh and super hot. The only problem is the cornmeal used is very bland. I think that's why there are so many sauces available. The one exception is the fried pickles. The cornmeal here has enough salt and a kick. I wish they would use this same seasoning on the shrimp and catfish. Hush puppies are ok as are the fries. The shrimp coctazil is great. Cold, refreshing, loaded with shrimp and avocado. Where to go when famished, you skipped breakfast, it's 11 AM on a Sunday and you want to feed your eyes as well as your screaming belly? Hook, Line & Sinker! We found plenty of parking as they had just opened on a Sunday. We could have called in and picked up, but we opted to eat it there. There is the feel of a fishing camp with the picnic tables on the partial wrap around porch . You are greeted by lots of old outboard fishing boat motors hanging on the railings. There are motor cowlings on the roof and then you walk in and see all kinds of fishing related decorations on the wall from nets to rods to lures to cool looking 1950's fishing advertisement signage. As I peered over the shoulder of the order taker, I saw a charbroiler grill with both trout fillets and hamburgers kicking up some flames with that sweet fat dripping into the burners. I knew I was going to love this place! I ordered the fried shrimp, fried oyster and fried catfish fillet combo special. It comes with more fries and hushpuppies than is safe to eat. I also ordered some of their famous sweet and tangy coleslaw (it has a flavor that reminds me of pineapple juice). We also ordered a side of fried okra. There was a huge container of fresh lemonade and fresh made tea, so I was mixing my own wonderful drink. There is a lot of items to study on the walls if your company gets stale or boring while your order is made. This place reminds me of something you might find along the Gulf Coast. The finger hushpuppies were my first taste and they were absolutely cornbread heaven. Then I tried some of the battered fried okra. The batter was a mix and the corn meal in it made it phenomenal. The flavor had a touch of sweet pepper and it wasn't overcooked. The oysters, shrimp and catfish were all in delicious batter like the okra. They were crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked. Not dry but moist and tender. The taste was delightful! I had to leave some of the fries as my stomach was crying uncle, "I'm out of space!" We saw they had coconut pie and bread pudding for dessert. There was absolutely no room in our bellies plus I knew I had to some how slip back behind the steering wheel. We got them to go. They were delicious! The pie crust was very flakey. Don't get me wrong it was good but I wanted something special. Prices were exactly where there suppose be (my plate was 12.95). The most disappointing was that there wasn't any liquor and only beer. I hadn't been here in forever! Recently went back for their fried oysters and it's as good as I remember. It has the little hole in the wall layout and feel but it's in uptown area which puts you close to all the cool places to go to at night! Food is expensive and not good at all. Ordered the Seafood Gumbo and Catfish/Fried Shrimp basket. The gumbo was awful. Tasted like watery black bean soup with a few shrimp and too much black pepper in it. Unfortunately it was takeout so I ended up tossing most of it. Because of all the great reviews we thought to give it a try. By the way we will not be coming back or recommend this place. Our food appeared to be cooked to order but when I reforged my burger the bun was toasted and cold the meat was warm. I'm thinking to myself there is no way the vegetable caused this. My boyfriend order a catfish meal and his fish tasted plain like water, no wonder they offer a table full of sauces cause it doesn't come with any flavor, the fish was thin and more crust than fish. I have never in my 70 plus years posted a restaurant review before, but this episode deserves an opinion from me. My husband drove there to bring home takeout for a late lunch/early supper. He ordered a catfish dinner and a side of fried shrimp and coleslaw. This food was so bland and flavorless that neither of us could believe it. How can deep fried shrimp, french fries, and catfish be so lack luster? Even the hushpuppies were simply fried cornmeal, no seasoning. We were extremely disappointed to say the least. We ordered a basket of fried shrimp and one of catfish and shrimp, also a side of cole slaw & a couple fountain drinks. $40+ later we received the worst catfish I've ever eaten! It was practically going bad so that the fish was actually falling apart with no texture. Just mushy fishy tasting fish in a cornmeal batter. The shrimp was fresher but wasn't very good, same batter. This USED to be our favorite go-to place for catfish, and I might say that we had a-many Fish-Friday's here. Today, we decided to have lunch here on our way out of town. Sadly, we were very disappointed with the catfish. With that said, trust me, I totally understand the business world. I'm a business owner too and I know how lean we have to be at times, but NEVER at the cost of quality. Our catfish, which we've eaten many times was nothing like it use to be. This catfish quality was the epitome of shrinkflation! The catfish use to be meaty filets, we always order it "seasoned" . The problem was that they fillets are now half of what the use to be. Somehow, they took a filet and managed to literally filet it in half. It was sooo thin that it was almost overcooked. Not meaty like it use to be.
