Fish burrito
Shannon P.

Great food, great service and great ambiance! Perfect spot to for a casual lunch or dinner. The trick is you want to order takeout so you don't have to wait in the long line. I love both their Outer Sunset and Mill Valley locations. Only outdoor seating in Outer Sunset on a first come first serve basis. I usually get a poke plate or fish burrito. The hot sauce is fresh and great. Highly recommend!

I really wanted to love this place because I love seafood, but I was a bit disappointed. The fish and chips were yummy, but I was disappointed in the burrito. The fish made it very soggy and the flavors were not congruent. Recommend ordering online and picking up, because there will definitely be a wait otherwise.

If you like fried fish, then this is one of the best spots I've ever been to. No joke, this is some really good fried fish. It's a pretty chill place with decent seating, but needs more. Their poke is also pretty good, and they do have a few tasty beverages to help wash down that fish. Overall, if you like seafood, I would suggest giving this place a visit.

Poke burrito

Solid poke burrito! This creative dish tastes how you might imagine: all the fixings of a typical burrito combined with the soy flavors of some fresh poke. I appreciated how fresh all of the ingredients were and they went decently well with the fish. The chips and guac were a nice appetizer. Overall I'm a fan and would definitely come back to try their fish and chips. Do note that it's popular with the locals and your wait time may be upward of 30 min when busy. Seating is in the outdoor parklet (shared benches). Try their carrot habanero salsa -- it's not *too* spicy! Beer/wine is available.

I think every trip to SF should start with a stop here. Got the Fish & Chips and the tacos (black cod). Ordering online was a breeze and pickup was super simple and straightforward. Fish & Chips- light but full of flavor is exactly how I like them. The fries were so good as well. Tacos- flavors were out of this world and the portion size was worth the money. My only gripe was that there was too much for the tortilla to hold. Ended up turning it into a bowl. All in all- great experience!

fish of the day burrito

This place is clearly popular with a long queue and a long wait for food to be ready after ordering. The fish burritos seem to be the most popular and we got the fish of the day. The burritos are quite underwhelming and was mostly rice and beans with a little avocado and a few small pieces of fish. The fish was a little overcooked and on the dry side. I had a few fries from a friend who got fish and chips and the fries were solid.

Such a great local spot for seafood. They're well known for their fish tacos, poke, fish plates and great draft beer. Their fish is fresh and flavorful, and I liked that the menu gives you a few different ways to enjoy it depending on what you're craving (fried, seared). The fish tacos are always a standout, and the fish plates never disappoint. The atmosphere is casual and easygoing, which makes it a nice neighborhood spot for a quick meal without sacrificing the quality of the food. Service was friendly and everything came together pretty seamlessly.

Finally came back to try again and the fish and chips are great. The spicy sauce isn't too spicy! They give you a lot of fries for sure. Some of the fish aren't all the same sizes, but still good size pieces.

Recommended by my son! He mentioned he comes here often whenever he's in the area. He usually gets the poke, but since it was a bit chilly the day we visited, eating cold poke outside didn't seem like the best idea. So, we went with the Fish and Chips instead. Because it's attached to a seafood market, you can really tell the quality of the ingredients is good. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious! You can usually tell when a place uses low-quality ingredients or old oil just by the smell as you walk past, but everything here felt clean and fresh. The vibe is very relaxed and laid-back--it instantly gives you that fun, "I'm on vacation" feeling. They also serve great local beers that paired perfectly with the food. Service was ok. If the weather is nice, this is a fantastic spot to go for a stroll nearby and grab a drink. Highly recommended!

Tacos, fish n chips, tortilla chips with pico (all delicious!)

When I went, there was a long line that was WELL WORTH THE WAIT if you are looking for fried fish and chips! I recommend everything honestly. They cook the fish right in front of you, you get your choice of fish, they have fresh fish you can buy and take home raw. They also have POKÉ!? I had no clue about this, but the person sitting next to me who ordered this thoroughly enjoyed theirs. The FISH TACOS were incredible as well as the FISH N CHIPS, I got ROCKFISH my favorite for both. I love their homemade carrot habanero spicy salsa sauce. I think it's carrot? I feel like someone told me it was carrot? Their pico was standard and fresh, they also had that stinky vinegar on the table next to their carrot habanero sauce that's perfect to mix with tartar sauce and ketchup for fries. The outdoor space for seating is lovely in good weather and can get a bit packed if you come during a rush. I would absolutely come back to this place. Delicious!!!!

Their fish plates are amazing! I love their hot sauce and the sauce that comes with the plate. Their poke is also great. This is my favorite food spot in all of the Bay. It is non negotiable to bring any visiting friends here. Soooo good and fresh every time. Absolutely worth. The seating is typically limited here and I typically order ahead to help with the wait time but it definitely gets busy

Fish and chips 3 pieces

Fish and chips were the start of our groups order! Perfectly battered and fried. Fish was moist and seasoned well. Dip it in tartar sauce for that extra oomph! Chefs kiss! Wait line is long but it goes by fast and food comes out quick. During high peak times, it is hard to find a seat but diners are very nice and make room for others! Drinks are amazing. Beer and fresh squeeze juices are available! Bathroom is near the kitchen and there is only one so there is a wait. Dogs welcome on the patio!

batter still uncooked (thick piece)

I was around Ocean Beach and had done quite a bit of walking that day, so naturally, I started getting hungry. I was craving some seafood and searched Yelp for something nearby. That's how I ended up at Hook Fish Co. When I arrived, there was already a line, and I quickly understood why. I saw people enjoying their meals, and when I asked a few of them about the food, they all said it was worth the wait. When it was finally my turn to order, the cashier was incredibly kind and helpful. Since it was my first time, I had a few questions about the menu and drinks, and she was happy to explain everything. Even the chefs were fun and energetic. At one point I yelled out, "Frijoles!" and they yelled it right back with the same energy. It definitely made the experience more memorable. The wait was around 15-20 minutes, and once I saw my platter come out, I was excited and honestly drooling. The three big pieces of fish were beautifully seasoned, and even the seasoning on the chips was something different that I really enjoyed. Every bite was hot, flavorful, and delicious. The fish tasted incredibly fresh, and the fries were crispy and satisfying. I definitely understood why this place had such a crowd. My only small issue was that one of my pieces of fish was pretty thick, and when I bit into it, I noticed the batter in the center wasn't completely cooked through. It probably could have used a little more time in the fryer, but it wasn't enough to ruin the overall experience. Overall, I had a great time at Hook Fish Co. Great food, friendly staff, and a fun atmosphere. I'd definitely come back again!

Hook Fish Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hook Fish

What beverages are offered?

There is wine and beer and a couple of aqua fresca options available.

Is the fish beer battered?

Yes

What kind of fish do they use for fish n chips?

Rock fish

Is hook fish still open?

Yes

Is any sure about the gluten free question, my friend cannot tolerate even cross contamination?

Is there bacon in the clam chowder?

Hi Katie. I'd call them and ask. They seem very flexible. I bet they would add bacon or skip it depending on your preference.

Do they have a high chair for infants?

Yes

Is the outside dining area dog friendly?

Yes it is..

What the phone number?

(628) 256-0454... it doesn't seem like they pick up at all

Are they offering indoor dining? I know it's a small spot inside but just curious

Yes, there is an enclosed area that includes the bar. It is still pretty open and breezy though.

Do they deliver? I can't find anything that states if they deliver or just do takeout. I see a menu for "online orders" but can't tell.

None of their locations do delivery- it's just all take out! I called to double check :)

Do you sell fish as a market?

Only the ones they have on display but more of a restaurant

Is the renovation done? Are they currently open?

Not sure what u mean by renovation but they are open for takeout. Not indoor dining though

Is there parking around?

We haven't had trouble finding street parking near by - it might take a lap or two, but it's never been too bad

While the taste profile of the meat and the consommé are above average for this place, I feel that the birria that I eat is beginning to taste the same. Kudos on the size; some spots skimp on the size. Lengua Super Burrito: I think this is priced very well for a large burrito. I am a fan of their lengua, and I'm also happy to report that I didn't feel cheated with the lengua portion size inside the burrito. I tried their asasda, and it was bad, so I'm very happy that the lengua was very good. Service: You order, you pay, you wait for the food to arrive. Nothing crazy. Ambiance: It's a smaller corner spot, so you really gotta get lucky with the seating. The line can get crazy at certain hours of the day, so it's gonna be hard to sit and stay a while. I'd just eat here and move on.

No. Can I explain it after eating one? Also no. Whatever was happening inside that tortilla was incredible. Five stars, easy. I got the chicken tinga bowl: rice, beans, chopped lettuce, green enchilada…read moresauce, a little cheese, sour cream on the side, plus chips and three salsas. The orange salsa is probably a mango habanero: spicy with this lovely fruitiness. The green is your classic, done well. And the enchilada sauce is great. The chicken tinga itself was incredible and not overly salty, which so many places get wrong. Rice and beans cooked perfectly, lettuce chopped nice and fine. But the thing that won me over happened before I even ordered: the server brought out a little plate of samples: their mole, some chicken tinga, some birria; just so I could taste around the menu. Who does that??! Simple interior, clean, super friendly people. All of it for about $15! In SF that's like a pricing error in my favor. I'll be back.

On a scrubby block of the outer Mission, I used to be here weekly for social skills therapy with my son at KidSpace. So, I was familiar with the parking challenges. Ten minutes later we headed in. Clean, welcoming warm, they invited us to try anything before ordering. We were ready to order the enchiladas divorciadas ($18.49) and breakfast burrito with guacamole ($16.99). We were kindly fussed over by a woman I think was the young owners' mom. She wiped down our table, brought chips and three kinds of salsa and my coffee plus cream and sugar. My son wolfed down the enchiladas with green and red sauces and I saved half of my breakfast burrito for dinner later. My burrito was deliciously filling - and I was super hungry - that's how satisfying it was! The owner told me they make the chorizo sausage in house.
