I am a retired business person and was interested in a used 2024 Audi RS5 at VW Honolulu and went today. I asked for Brandon as he listed the car and as he was busy, he introduced me to the junior salesperson, Mike. He was inexperienced but was very professional and helpful. When he showed me the car, we found out we are sports car people and I shared my Porsche Motorsports experiences and photos with him and later, the senior salesperson, Brandon, joined us. After showing me the car, he asked if me and/or my wife wanted to take a test drive. I said I would and that is when the issues began. Mike came back embarrassed as his manager said for this particular car, I would need a "pre-approval" for a simple test drive. I have never heard of such a thing before in my extensive car buying history. I have test driven much more valuable cars by simply showing them my driver's license or less. In the interest of cooperation, I provided my social security number, personal contact info and monthly income. It appears the manager didn't believe me when I gave the income figure and Mike said was that figure monthly or annually. I said monthly and this was questioned several times by going back and forth to the manager, as if he couldn't believe my figures. I informed them that I have an 850 credit score and can easily pull it on my banking app. This score would easily qualify for financing of much higher priced car than this used RS5. Then they asked about my trade in and I informed them to give me a price and trade in value and financing separately. After many more delays, back and forth, and more talk story time and still no test drive nor price, my wife lost patience and went out to our car. I gave it several more minutes and went looking for Brandon and I was standing in front of the manager's desk. Instead of getting off his chair, assisting me, or doing something professional, like finally greeting a potential customer, he just sat behind the desk with a blank stare, so I headed to the front reception area where I encountered Brandon and Mike also walked over. At this point, we were at the dealership for 2.5 HOURS and still without a firm price NOR a test drive. It was like I will buy the car already for an undisclosed price and without a test drive. Or they think I cannot afford to buy and refused a test drive, which is truly laughable, as you never know what someone will or will not buy. I informed them I have to make an overdue business call and my wife and I are highly dissatisfied with the lack of service or basic respect. It's not worth it to me at any price, let alone a car, to have an unpleasant time with the wife over what should be a very happy occasion. It should've been the easiest of transactions as I extensively researched numerous Audis at Audi of Honolulu and on and off island. I happen to have purchased a Porsche and a VW from this dealer (under the Cutter ownership) many years ago and this treatment was downright insulting. I informed Brandon and Mike to contact me if the manager ever got his act together, which I highly doubt, and wished them all the best. It is the manager's fault for losing this simple sale. It's very unfortunate as black is my wife's favorite color, and I was going to make it her surprise birthday gift. I never ever write reviews but this was one of the worst I ever had and do not wish anyone else to experience this. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Unless you're looking to give your hard earned money to a dealership modeled after a frat house filled with incompetent, sleazy, and sexist dudes, I'd suggest taking your business elsewhere. Besides having zero respect for your time and moving slower than an H-1 traffic jam, every guy that works there doesn't take a woman buyer seriously. After repeatedly ignoring my communications, both email and in person, every sales person and even the GM Joshua would only respond to my husband. I suppose it's possible they didn't respond to me because they were too busy vaping and dipping on the job, but your guess is as good as mine. Additionally, the GM takes zero accountability for anything going wrong (the sales team contracted the wrong car for us 3 times!!) and rather than offering in person support, hides behind his keyboard forwarding these concerns to other people on his team who don't have the ability or aptitude to rectify it. If the aforementioned isn't enough to steer you away from this place make sure that you read everything carefully. The finance manager Eric zooms in on all the electronic signature boxes so you can't see what you're signing, claiming that it won't work if not zoomed in. This approach got us enrolled in VW extended care coverage which was an additional charge and not on any paper documents. When we discovered it afterwards via a random email confirmation and expressed our lack of agreement to this he said it was a simple mistake and rather than removing us said he would reimburse us with cash, which he did. I'm no expert in car sales, but based on this I'd venture to guess there's some type of monetary manipulation occurring here. At best this place is a joke, but that's being generous given how slow, inept, unprofessional and shady they are. read more

Attention 2023 ID4 owners. There's an active safety recall on the NTS website for the high voltage battery which can caught on fire and I have never received a letter from VW. This is insane! The recall was posted on January 21st and it's been more than 3 weeks. I took my vehicle for annual maintenance service (which is complementary) and because they know they won't make money with me, they provided zero care! I've waited one hour for a ride home. I ended up requesting the key to my vehicle to go back to work. They didn't even mention anything about the safety recall. They are putting our lives in danger and they couldn't care less. took my atlas for 10k maintenance. the staff was really nice and waiting area was pretty stocked. upon receiving my vehicle back I noticed my interior of my vehicle was very dirty. starting with the steering wheel. took a good 4 wet wipes to get it decent enough to just touch to drive without dirtying your hands. then I noticed on my driver side roof someone touched it with dirty hands leaving prints. they didn't even give it a courtesy rinse although I probably shouldn't have expected that since my interior was left filthy. I prefer to do any type of maintenance at the dealership but this experience is making me not trust them to touch my vehicle again. read more

recently went to Volkswagen in Honolulu on Nimitz Ave to look at a car they had advertised that I was interested in. When I arrived, the lot was full and very limited parking for customers. Most of the cars there were from their inventory. Anyhow, the car they advertised looked like it was in good condition and the outside pristine with little to no damage. When I look inside the back seats and the passenger seat look like they hadn't even tried to clean it. It was filthy and dirty. The sales person said, we sell our cars 'As is". Also a red engine light was on. Wouldn't you think they would take the time to clean the seats and fix or clear the engine light before they display the vehicle for sale. Lastly, the sales person said I had to purchase their "care package" or to that effect for $2,200. The "care package included free oil change, battery service and if I remember correctly, the upkeep or cleaning of the vehicle. I said what if I didn't want to purchase that package, the sales person said that it would be added to the cost of the vehicle. I said no thank you and left the lot. Don't get caught in the trap of purchasing any vehicle or any other cost of purchasing the vehicle. Hope this helps read more

Nothing but "when can you come in". I emailed a dealer in San Diego, (they assumed I was local) And got an OTD price the next day. 5k lower than here. No hassle. read more

My daughter leases a vehicle from Honolulu VW. The vehicle has broken down twice. First time, my daughter brings it in and they test the battery and claim to have "fixed it". They gave the vehicle back after 7 days. However, they never called us back and they say they will call you to update you and never do. If you call VW than it takes many tries and hours of time to get through to them. My daughter is always driving to the dealership in order to speak to an associate. It's a complete waste of time. My daughter brought the car back in on Tuesday this week and they still don't know what's wrong. They said they will get back to us. Another week she is without a vehicle. They don't provide a courtesy loaner vehicle while we have continually paid for the vehicle last month and this month. This is by far the worst service we have experienced. I would never lease or purchase a vehicle through this unprofessional, non communicative, inept VW dealership. Harold has been the service advisor but apparently he is out of town now for two more days. Unacceptable, unprofessional, and what a lack of Aloha. Mahalo nui for nothing. read more

This is a terrible, terrible dealership. I really regret buying my car there. I bought a new car on a Sunday morning. I was the only customer in the dealership. I showed the picture of the car I wanted on the dealership's website. The salesman said it was not on the lot and we could drive 15 minutes to where the car is stored. The car was not there so we went back. The salesman took keys to another car that we saw in storage and left me to wait at the dealership. He said he'd be back in about 25-30 minutes (It took 15 minutes one-way to get there. Plus the car was buried behind 2 other cars. So I knew it'd take at least 40 minutes for him to return.) I sat in the dealership as the only customer. Three other salespeople were on their phone and the General Manager was at his computer. After 40 minutes of waiting (and about 1 1/2 hours since I first arrived at the dealership), I told the GM I was going to leave and asked the salesperson to contact me. The GM texted the salesperson who told him he would be back in 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, he didn't return and I told the GM again I was going to leave. The GM then asked me what car I wanted and gave me a price. It included a $1,000 fake paint protection. I asked the GM to remove it and he did. He then gave me a lowball offer on my trade-in. After an appraisal, I was offered a better price. Now the last issue is getting my license plates. When my paper plate was expiring, I went into the dealership and asked for a new one. They put a new date over the old one and sent me away without an "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" or anything. A few weeks later, I called them and they said the plates did arrive, but the DMV made a mistake on my name and sent them back. I'm 99% sure the dealership made the mistake and not the DMV. It would have been nice if the dealership had called me to tell me the plates were returned to the DMV and gave me an estimate of when the plates will arrive. I will never return to this dealership. There is no way I will bring it back there for the 10,000 mile checkup. If the rest of the dealership is so bad, I can't imagine the repair center being any good at all. read more

I recently had my car detailed. While the detail itself was okay, I was surprised by the attire of one of the employees. One of the workers was dressed in what appeared to be just a bra and spandex, which I found a bit unprofessional for a dealership setting. I can understand dressing like that outside of work, but in a professional environment, it seemed odd that this would be allowed. I also understand that washing cars can mean dealing with wet clothes, but I noticed that the other employees in the back were fully clothed in their uniforms, so the contrast stood out. Honestly this place is kinda shady. i bought a car in august and the safety check expired the next month. i went in to get a failed safety check not knowing that because of the expired safety check the DMV would not release my title and registration. i kept calling about every month to see the status on my title and registration and was always told that i would get contacted back. i never did. so finally this year feb they told me i need to come back and do another failed safety check so DMV can release my title. now my bank raised my apr from 6% to 18% because they don't have the ttitle. im losing money because of this. And i thought the dealership would handle everything and it seems i have to go out of my way and keep being persistent to make things good for my car. i had a good experience buying the car and everything but i never expected this. Bought a 2016 Ford Mustang here not that long ago and after I bought it and everything a day later it had a check engine light for misfiring, I took it back and they had the courtesy of "fixing" it and when i took it back the same day it popped up later in the day. On my way to take it back the car began overheating and I had to tow it all the way down there. They checked it and I was told it needed a new engine. I had explained to them that I wanted it to get fixed because I didn't buy a car that was not able to drive and them knowing as an active duty service member that I was being respectful about the situation, I called to ask to speak to the General Manager or Sales Manager and never received a phone call back. And the service is being denied and I have not been told why. read more

Bought a vehicle in March with Tags that expired the next month. Was promised would be renewed & sent to me in the mail. Have messages and called multiple times to get my expired tags up to date as promised. No real answers. Call again then they said they need a failed safety check to continue after almost 2 month of waiting. I already had provided a failed safety check within 1 week of purchasing vehicle and still waiting. Been pulled over 4 separate times due to expired tags. At this point I'm ready to go renew the registration and safety on my own. Zero help from sales or anyone after you buy something from them. read more

As an update to my last review, I got a call back from VW Volkswagen in response to the poor review score I left. Thank you Yelp! My salesman Sam as well as the GM Josh had apologized for the poor service and reimbursed me for the credit they had taken away at time of signing and gave us our rubber mats they promised us. For this act of upholding customer care, I have added back two stars. I would like mention that there still continues to be a bit of disconnect within the organization. On my last visit to the sales office to pickup the rubber mats and license plates around 10am on a Wednesday, I again experienced no one to greet me at the door although I could see at least 3 team members sitting at their desk assisting no one. I walked over to the finance manager that setup my loan and he had no recollection of who I was...pretty wild considering I signed paperwork with him in July of this year! Anyway, I truly hope managers Kyle and Josh take action with their team and revamp their processes to ensure customer care is the highest priority. read more

Worst Car buying experience I've ever had. Went in to buy a used car. The deal was normal and we came to an agreement on price. They worked in replacing the power steering pump and battery into the price and would not make a deal without it. That part was fine. Where the trouble comes is waiting for nearly a month to get my car after I paid. The promised timeline was 1 week. They did provide a loaner which I also had issues with. The 1st loaner provided was infested with roaches, I had to take it back and get another one. After that I kept following up with them to see when I would get the car I paid for. They had a lot of excuses and which included the techs were too busy, all the techs went on service training, once assigned to a person no one else can work on the car and then waiting for plates to be released. After all that trouble I received the car and when we drove it off the lot the check engine light came on. Messaged my sales person but just like when I was following up on the car I got ghosted. I do not recommend purchasing or servicing anything at this dealership. Stay far away! read more

Told me there was $10,000 of urgent repairs for my car which was over what my car was worth, when I tried to call them to ask about some of the repairs they never responded. They only did one repair which I approved through the link they gave me. I called them 40 times over 3 days and on the third day they just texted me to say my car was finished. Terrible communication and service. Took my car to a different mechanic after and they said none of the repairs were necessary. Do not recommend! read more
