Ahi katsu plate-Night mkt could use more lighting..

This looked a lot livelier on youtube. The venue is really nice, food trucks are the Kakaako farmers mkt wharf side vendors and a few other vendors in tents. Not very memorable on this quiet evening. Park in the rocky dirt lot behind the mkt and fyi- porta potties only, tucked in a dark corner by the dumpsters.

I love that there's a weekly Friday night market in a convenient location with free parking! I love night markets when going out with a group of friends so everyone's different cravings are satisfied. I came here two Fridays in a row, and there were different vendors each time. One Friday had way more trucks than the other. I got the Kababa Mama falafel smash. This thing was winner! The sauce used was so flavorful and tied everything together perfectly. It was a long wait but definitely worth it! The following week I went to Streats of Aloha. I got the smoked meat plate and salmon. I love that there's a generous amount of sides. The smoked meat was perfect and the onions were top tier. The only downside of this is that there is barely any seating. There's a nice deck area with a lot of open space for people to stand and sit on the floor but definitely a lack of tables. Despite this, I will definitely be coming back!

Visited Honolulu Harbor Nights twice, located in one of the parking lots that the Kaka'ako Farmers Market occupy on Saturdays. The vibes are great, probably even better than the morning market on Saturdays, however there's a lot less options. Obviously wayy less hot and also since it is on Fridays, you can see the weekly firework that happens across the harbor on Waikiki Beach (~7:50-8pm). Parking is good and easy, there are even people guiding you to empty spots. To the food, I've been here twice, since the vendors change, I can't guarantee every vendor I speak of will be there. - California Burrito ($18-19): I got this at a food truck. I was really craving a burrito so I ordered this. I was extremely disappointed to say the least. The burrito was very small, probably only slightly bigger than my hand. The burrito was somehow DRY? I tried to drown that thing to sauce to help it but the quality just couldn't be helped, very disappointed and heartbroken. 5/10 - Pork & Chicken Skewers: I don't remember the pricing or this but I think it is a filipino skewer stand. Right on one of the corners, they seem to be a consistent vendor. Delicious, very flavorful, kinda of worth it especially if you're starving. 8/10 - Mama's Smash ($17): From Kababa Mama. I saw them at the Honolulu Night Market recently and unfortunately they sold out of the smash before I was able to get my hands on it so when I saw them this time I decided to try this bad boy out. It wasn't bad, but I guess just didn't live up to my expectations. My main critique is that portion size was pretty small for $17 and the patty should've been smashed onto the pita itself. I feel like it could've helped more with the flavor (of the pita bread itself) and the overall structure of it, as it was quite messy to eat and was falling apart by the half way mark. The flavor was still good though, I don't regret trying it but probably don't repurchase. 6.5/10 Overall, the night market is a nice place to visit and even just walk around if you're bored on a Friday night. There are music entertainment constantly playing and people walking their cute little dogs everywhere. I just personally would've be going here starved as the food (as per most of the markets and festivals that happen in Hawaii) are on the pricier and often disappointing side.

Arrived at 5:30 on Friday and just a few food trucks and not all are open. Not worth the drive over.

Okay, I've only been here technically once, but I have to say:…read more The first time I went here and got Thai food. The pumpkin curry bowl with sticky rice and the pork skewers are AMAZING. The second time, my boyfriend got produce from vendors bring home ingredients to make pico de gallo, and it was so fresh that a quart and a half disappeared in two days. BUT the main reason I'm writing this is for the gentleman that makes one of the TOP THREE pastas I've had IN HAWAII. First is probably Uni pasta (or something else pasta) from Arancino Kahala. Second is La Cucina. Third, but coming up very close is this random never would have suspected it farmer's market pasta. Carbonara and Amatriciana. Just get those. It's gonna take 30 minutes, even if you get there early. It's one guy making pasta from scratch, fresh, with noodles and sauces that he made from scratch. Just put your order in, go buy your veggies and bread, wander around to look at booths, then come back. My boyfriend hates waiting in line but he said he would wait an hour for this. We left some of it out and ate it five hours later and it was STILL delicious, even all cold. Even the best restaurant stuff you save isn't THIS good later on. I don't like that I spilled this secret spot, but I really hope he opens his own restaurant one day, if he wants to. I would eat his pasta and bread every day and enjoy every pound that I put on!

Located on Kekaulike Street - between King Street and Hotel Street - Kekaulike Market is one of the "go to" places for fresh produce and fresh meats and seafood. However, I did see items such as locally caught fish packed in ice, clean chicken feet in refrigerated cases, and tables full of colorful vegetables and fruits! The variety is overwhelming! There are many vendors inside of the air conditioned market and even more stalls right outside the market's doors - all along the wall! Just take your time and compare prices. Bring tote bags ...and cash for better bargaining power! Remember that metered street parking is free on Sundays and holidays. If you're early, you can get free parking on King Street. Close friends (if you come here enough times) and deals can be felt here on a daily basis. It's a very definitely small scale operation that takes up very little room and scores up many delightful fruits and fresh produce for your daily needs. It's not much of a theatrical production, as the larger farmer's markets in various spots around urban Honolulu and across Oahu, but there is some value associated here. It's your usual cadre of local residents that want to enjoy the fresh produce that comes with farmer's markets, but want to be within the reaches of Kaimuki town. The Kaimuki Open Market could be categorized as a small niche of people bartering and selling among themselves, but why do it in the public eye? Not sure about that, but I guess it's the way it is here and buying among friends and family is like that, along with passers by who are also looking for a great deal as well. The overall experience here was definitely pleasant, but weird at the same time. I'd come back here more, if the farmer's market either at Kapiolani Community College did not have the stuff I need. The Kaimuki Open Market is neatly tucked away in the side streets of Kaimuki town, located on 12th Avenue across the street from the First Hawaiian Bank - Kaimuki branch. They usually operate on Saturdays, Is use you where I see them. Not sure if the do this open market on the week days, but I will be surprised if they do. If they do, it will probably during normal working hours. Usually cash will be king here, since I do not believe they take credit cards at all. Luckily there is a major bank next door or across the street, namely First Hawaiian Bank and Bank of Hawaii. Parking can be plenty for all, if you use the municipal parking lot but you would have to pay money. There's always street parking nearby but there will be some walking involved to get here. Of course, there is no admission fee, so that's always a good thing. Sometimes I will see someone new in the neighborhood buying stuff from here and it's always gratifying to see familiar faces periodically on the weekends. While you won't find vendors that will cook up a tasting meal, you just find a small assortment of produce that is fresh and compatible with whatever you are cooking / preparing for the day or week. Take this opportunity to venture out in your comfort zone and come here, as the alternative to supermarkets, Costco, and other nearby localized farmer's markets in and around town. Since I do live nearby, I thought it would be a nice gesture to check things out here on a recent Saturday and hit up the Kapiolani Community College mega farmer's market later on. For me, it was the perfect opportunity to get what produce I needed for work and home, while being quite close to home really. I can shop here on the weekends and know that I can get the best price and deal for my hard-earned dollar, as well as seeking other deals for friends and family by shopping here. While Whole Foods and various supermarkets are are very much in the Vinicity, shopping here at the Kaimuki open market can be adventurous and be out of your comfort zone. It's always nice to look at first. You'd probably would find something you're looking for, but for a better deal. Support local! B+ *1400th review and 100th first to review on Yelp! Yeh!! :)
