During our family trip down to Hollywood, we stopped at Hong's BBQ for lunch on the last day of our mini-cation. Located off Stirling Road (accessible from both directions), Hong's BBQ sits amongst the various shops that make up the Stirling Place Plaza. If you're here based off your search for food around the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Hotel Hollywood, you've got the same idea as us and this review is for you; Hong's is essentially "around the corner" from the casino and a great option if you want to venture off the resort for some great food. Recommended by a source for reliable eats, we decided to give Hong's BBQ a go before our trip back to Tampa. We found that Hong's BBQ has some great authentic Canto-style Chinese cuisine. Not big by any means (you can't necessarily host a large banquet style gathering here), there is definitely ample seating - mainly suited for parties of 4. We came around 1pm on a Sunday and had no issues being seated - although the restaurant maintained a steady flow of customers in and out of the restaurant. There are a few larger round tables scatter throughout with the typical lazy-susan setup in the center that may accommodate larger parties of 6-8. If you're not interested in dining-in, there is definitely a "butcher's" station/display that is set up toward the back of the dining section. The setup within the restaurant definitely brought back nostalgic memories of Chinatown restaurants and their racks of char-siu, roast duck, pig, and soy chicken hanging under the heating lamps. From here, you can order cuts of the aforementioned meats by weight without the "extras." The menu offered a great variety of Canto-style cuisine; I would argue that it's hard to go wrong with a choice based on their selections they have available. We ordered two noodle soups (roast duck and char siu), along with an order of the beef chow fun, which were all outstanding. Beginning with the noodle soups, you have 3 different noodle options; I opted for the flat rice noodles which I instantly craved upon identifying it as a choice. The noodles were cooked to al-dente perfection that had a good amount of "bounce" while easy to chew. The broth was also on a whole other level that warrants praise in itself. The beef chow fun is also a must - yes, I recognize that this may be considered a "basic" choice, but Hong's BBQ makes this the right way. The service wasn't poor - let's just say that it falls in line with the coveted 3-star Asian restaurant rating (If you know, you know). The servers knew how and when to deliver. All in all, Hong's BBQ is a great place to dine with your family. I would recommend this to anyone in or travelling to this area. read more

Heard about this place and wanted to try it's BBQ and roasted meats. We stopped by on a Thursday evening around 5. The eatery seats about 40 and is clean and simply decorated. It was empty. But it slowly got more diners, with about 5 tables filled before we left. Service was fine but the waitress who took our order barely spoke English and it was difficult getting answers about items on the menu. Nevertheless, we ordered pan-fried dumplings, the three meat combo plate with roast duck, BBQ roast pork, and crispy pork. We also got a seafood platter with salt and pepper shrimp, squid, and scallops. The latter didn't have much taste. We couldn't even taste any salt and pepper. The dish came on a bed of shredded raw cabbage. There was no rice. When I asked, the server (a different one from the woman who took our order) brought us a small bowl. They had forgotten to put the rice on the plate. (The dish is advertised as being served on a bed of rice.) The meat platter was decent. Although the duck skin needed to be crispier, the pork skin was very crispy. The BBQ roast pork was tasty, boasting a nice char siu flavor. The few strands of Chinese broccoli that was served with the dish was cold, as if it was added from the refrigerator. We enjoyed the pan-fried dumplings. They seemed to be homemade. We discovered Hongs in the Facebook group, Let's Eat, South Florida. The reviews were mixed, however we decided to try it. I called before we went to see if they cook with MSG and I was told that they did. When I asked if the MSG could be omitted the man I spoke with told me it could be omitted. We went to the restaurant last night and I spoke to the server about omitting the MSG and she said she would check with the chef. She wanted to know what dishes we wanted to order. Every dish I asked her about she had to check with the chef. Every dish we asked about they couldn't omit the MSG. We seriously should have walked out. I made the decision to stay because we were already there and decided just to chalk it up. We ordered egg drop soup, beef chow fun, honey roasted pork and the eggplant in garlic sauce. The soup was a huge bowl big enough for two and reasonably priced, however it lacked flavor. It was basically tasteless. The next dish to be brought out was the garlic eggplant and it was sizzling hot. It was absolutely delicious and the best eggplant we've ever ordered. The next dish to come out was the Chow Fun. The temperature on the dish wasn't cold. Maybe it was sitting too long but we felt it could have been hotter. Food coming out of a kitchen should be hot. I tried explaining this to the server but she just didn't understand what I was asking. I just let it go. It was extremely frustrating with the language barrier. She also forgot to bring out the pork. I had to ask for it. Pork was good but a little fatty. We were just about finishing up our meal and I see the server sit down at a table with a big plate of food. She just went on break. Not once did she look over at us or even come over to us before taking her break to see if we maybe needed anything. Also then the chefs and other server took their break. There was only one woman at the register dealing with take-out orders. We sat there for about 15 minutes. We just couldn't believe it. When the woman at the register finally finished with a customer, I went over to her and said I needed help at my table. She finally came over and I told her our food needed to be packed up and I also had to ask for the check. The woman walked away and came back with containers and just put them on the table. She then just stood there. I asked if she was going to pack up our food or if I had to do it. It seemed like she grudgingly did it. Also, their chairs are extremely uncomfortable, didn't encourage lingering. Absolutely awful service. Today, we were going through the reviews on Google and there were many negative reviews. Hong's BBQ Chinese Restaurant is a small, cozy spot with about a dozen tables, seating roughly 35-40 people. It offers full table service and the entire menu is available to go. We ordered the house specialty fried rice, which was excellent, and the honey garlic chicken, also delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be returning soon. I try to search for a yummy Chinese food dinner tonight when I am in Fort Lauderdale. I can't find anything I want on Yelp! Fortunately, Hong's BBQ shows up when I'm doing the Google map research. Excellent takeout experience. 3 meat combo on rice with an order of salt and pepper shrimp ran me $39 and change. Shrimp order was the luxury tax but wow it was not only beautifully presented and well portioned, but very large size shrimp that they tempura battered and fried with a beautiful fresh seasoning. It was cooked so crispy you could eat the shell and tail but still enjoy the plump juicy meat inside. My 3 meats were roast pork, roast duck and crispy pork. The roast meats are the stars. Crispy pork was under seasoned but tender. Rice is perfect and they put a bit of bok Choy which is nice. Service is culturally on par, so not warm or memorable. Having been raised in a Chinese restaurant provides me with a good perspective when describing the dining experience. I've done BBQ takeout from here several times but this was the first time dining in. The restaurant is simple and and very much a family owned ambiance. I had some soy sauce chicken and Char shiu and both were very good. Topped it off with beef chow fun and it was on point. So they got the simple things right and I expect that the rest of the menu items would probably be just as good. My husband has been harassing me to go for Chinese food forever and when I finally agreed they were closed for vacation...oops...we tried again after they returned and I am a little mad at myself that I haven't been here before. Food is basically served family style. After we ordered, I made comment to our server that I think we ordered a lot and he agreed and asked if we wanted to move to a bigger table with a lazy Susan. We didn't, as we were only 2 people and didn't want to take a 6 top. Somehow I forgot to take a photo of the shrimp with pan fried noodles. It was so good. I wasn't sure about it when it arrived but it was so good. We took home left overs and my daughter loved the dish too. I also ordered veggie fried rice. So good! Not overly soy sauced and filled with vegetables. My husband has the sweet & sour soup. It was enough for 4 people. He couldn't stop eating it and still managed to take some home. He also had the chicken & duck over rice. He said it was very good. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the vegetable egg rolls. No problem. Not a deal breaker. There was I much food we wish we could have tried. It probably would have been frowned upon if we went to the other tables to try their dishes. The food is so delicious and we were impressed! Thanks to Robert S.' review I bookmarked this place and finally had a chance to go. There were only a couple of people dining in when we arrived but it quickly filled up. There were quite a few people who were picking up To Go orders. It's not that big inside. I think there were about 4 tables that seat 6 ppl with a lazy Susan in the center, 2 tables that seat 4 ppl, and 3 tables that seat 2 ppl. Instead of getting soup, eggroll, white rice and an entree as a combination meal, you get white rice, an entree and a can of soda. My husband wanted soup but they only have family style portions which would have been way too much since he was the only one who wanted it. The Honey Roasted Pork was very tender and flavorful. My husband throughly enjoyed his Honey Garlic Chicken which was very moist. The only thing that was a bummer was that our server didn't stop by our table once jwe got our food and my husband wanted another can of soda. Not that much of a big deal... next time he'll order 2 sodas when he orders his meal. This is located in a decent sized parking lot with plenty of parking. Well I got to try three out of the four. The crispy pork is so popular they usually run out early. Beef Chow Fun - flavorful with tender pieces of beef (would come back for this) Honey Roasted Pork - delicious flavors, thinly sliced and tender (would come back for this) Roast Duck - enjoyed it, it was very tender, nice mild flavors but fat not rendered to my taste and skin not crispy as I prefer. It's a small spot with roughly eight tables of varying sizes. Not much of an ambiance but I did enjoy viewing the bbq meats hanging in the case. Haven't since this since NYC Chinatown. Undeniably the best Cantonese style food in south Florida. The food is always fresh and hot! Service is excellent for a Chinese restaurant. Overall I've had my fix of a number of dishes and you really cannot go wrong. The ambiance here is lively and energetic with the decorations plastered across the walls and the giant tv screens showing videos of people cooking. hong's bbq really is a culinary treasure for South Florida and potentially the US. I ate lunch here this past Sunday. Our friend, Robert, planned a fun get-together for us to explore and share some amazing Cantonese style food. Robert knew exactly what to order for our group of twelve. I loved all of the Cantonese BBQ meats, but my favorites were the honey roasted pork and the roasted duck. The chicken dishes were good, but I found both the Cantonese duck and pork to be special. The beef chow fun was good as well. For our vegetable dish, we had fresh bok choy that was so delicious! Almost three days later, I am still thinking about the bok choy, and I am sorry I didn't take an order home with me. I took home an order of the barbecue honey roast pork, as well as an order of eggplant in garlic sauce. The eggplant could have used a little more garlic, but regardless, it was cooked perfectly, and I loved it. Each of our two large tables had a lazy Susan, so sharing our family style lunch was very easy. Our servers were there for us if we needed anything, and the service was good. My water glass stayed full, so I was happy. There is currently a Yelp check-in offer for two free egg rolls with any thirty dollar take-out order, paid in cash. I am glad I took advantage of this special because the egg rolls were very good. A big thank you to Robert for introducing us to Cantonese style barbecue. Hong's BBQ is a small restaurant that is busy with both take-out and people eating inside. I love supporting locally owned businesses, and this is a good one. We came here today for a family style authentic Chinese lunch. The "UYE" was wonderfully hosted and organized by Robert S. as an "unofficial yelp event". Robert ordered our meal -- selecting a variety of Cantonese dishes. He also explained a little about this style of dining -- bbq meats being very typical of southern China -- and told us about each dish. It was like having our own tour guide. We shared two different types of chicken, two types of pork, roast duck, beef chow fun, bok choy, and white rice. There were a couple sauces -- one ginger; one hoisin plus the usual soy sauce. Several of our group liked the beef chow fun; a couple the duck. I really liked it all, but my favorite was the roast pork. It was a lively group -- no one shy -- so the conversation flowed as we turned the lazy Susan at each table to have "just one more bite". It was so nice to see some fellow elites we hadn't seen in some time and to get to know better some relatively new ones. The service was very good and the dishes were all paced well. This was my 1st time eating at this restaurant. It was also the first UYE I have attended. A Big Thank You to Robert S for putting this together. It was very well planned and organized! We had a big variety of food. I really enjoyed the Beef Chow Yum and the Steamed Chicken. The Beef Chow Yum had delicious flavor. The bok choy was so fresh and cooked perfectly. Yum! This restaurant offers authentic food which is great. I have to say this restaurant is spotlessly clean. I went to the restroom and on the way noticed the coolers and refrigerator looked so fresh and so clean. The whole restaurant was really in tip top shape. There is plenty of parking here. Ordered Congee (chicken) from here via Uber Eats since I was extremely sick with food poisoning and needed some sort of soft meal that wasn't the same basic foods I had been eating. It was pretty good overall, but my only complain was that they did not provide any spoons. I was staying at a hotel so I had to request sooner from the hotel which was inconvenient. I understand these things costs businesses money, but I wouldn't mind paying for one if it was an option. Not everyone who orders delivery has immediate access to utensils. A great spot for Chinese BBQ & cuisine in Davie! Came here a couple of times with friends for dinner and have enjoyed it everytime. They tend to have a dinner rush but it comes in waves. There are a good amount of tables, with the larger tables ideal for family sharing since they each have a Lazy Susan turntable in the middle. If you want to share, I'd recommend getting the three combo so you can try different meats! They also have an all day special where you can get a dish of your choice with white rice and a can of soda for around $12-13, depending on what you get. My favorite is the roasted duck but all the meats are tasty & tender! You can easily come back here many times to work your way through the menu since they have so many options! read more

I was absolutely thrilled by my lunch experience. It was best to go with a group of friends and today I dined with 10 friends so we could try a few different dishes. I had a friend who knew the menu well, so he did the ordering, and everything was delicious. We started with a spicy, crunchy, fried shrimp dish that was one of my favorites. We also had a crispy roasted duck served 3 different ways. The soft noodle dish and the crispy noodle dish were also wonderful. The garlic sauce with the bok choy was a perfect addition to the flavor of this vegetable. The BBQ Boneless Pork was tender and juicy, too. If you are a group of 5 or more, you will be seated at a table with a Lazy Susan. That was very helpful in moving the food around the table without everyone having to put their forks/chop sticks down. Both of these dishes were very good! I did hope the wonton itself could be a bit larger. My kids had the beef chow fun which they thoroughly enjoyed. DELICIOUS DINNER We recently had dinner at Hong's BBQ and ordered Marinated Chicken on Rice (R03 - $12.95) and House Pan Fried Noodles (N08 -$18.95). We enjoyed the flavorful and silky soy sauce chicken served with rice and stir fried baby bok choy. Customers might see the soy sauce chickens hanging next to the roast ducks, BBQ pork and crispy pork in the BBQ glass display area. Note to Asian BBQ newbies - the poached and soy sauce poached chickens and the roast ducks are served chopped (bone-in pieces). In addition to Chinese BBQ, Hong's BBQ also does very good seafood dishes. There are fish tanks from which customers can select live Dungeness crab, lobster and tilapia for classic Cantonese dishes such as steamed fish. One of our favorites is Shrimp Pan Fried Noodles (N12 - $16.95) - a large dish of crispy fried noodles topped with saucy stir fried large shrimp. While the House Pan Fried Noodles (topped with BBQ pork, shrimp and other seafood) was good, we prefer the simpler shrimp and noodle dish. read more
