This one hurts to write. I used to work just 2-3 minutes from this plaza, and this Chinese spot was my go-to lunch place. About 80% of the time, it was a smooth transaction with solid food quality. There was one instance about two years ago involving poor customer service from a staff member, but I brushed it off--it happens, and I try to be understanding. After taking some time away, I decided to stop by again and ordered fried rice with teriyaki chicken. I was genuinely excited to eat, but while I was going through the meal, I discovered what appeared to be a baby roach on my chicken. At first, I hoped it might've been a fly that landed in the food, but after a closer look, it was clearly a roach. That was extremely disappointing. I used to vouch for this place and considered it one of my favorites. Seeing something like this points to serious cleanliness and maintenance issues. My wife got the 2-item combo with Beef & Broccoli and Orange Chicken, along with half rice/half noodles. I ordered the 3-item plate with BBQ Pork, Sweet & Sour Pork, Steamed Vegetables, and half rice/half noodles. Unfortunately, the meats were dry and lacked flavor. The rice wasn't too bad, but the noodles were overcooked and mushy. The vegetables were somewhat decent, though also slightly overcooked and mushy. We always see this place inside the plaza where we go grocery shopping at Albertsons. Decided to check it out. We got their 2 combo plate. Half chow mein and half fried rice. Protein we got their teriyaki chicken and string beans chicken. On the other plate, the proteins we got were orange chicken and bbq pork. Portions were HUGE! Much more than what Panda Express would give. Overall the food were meh. Too greasy and the meats were fatty. The orange chicken- had no crispiness and it was ALL breading. FRIED CHICKEN: Some Yelpers say it's garlic infused/flavored. Not really sure if that's the case here as I barely got a hint of garlic flavor. They were delicious, though, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I feel it's been in the warmer for a minute, though, but that's to be expected. MUSHROOM CHICKEN: Also as expected but good flavor. More mushroom than chicken (like... 80% mushroom, 20% chicken kinda thing.) Still delish, though! FOOD: 4. SERVICE: 3. VALUE: 4. I've been eating from Hongkong Express since a kid when my mom used to get Chinese takeout from their location on Redondo Beach Blvd. I come to this location because it's closer to where I live now. The food has been consistent. I usually get half chow mein, half fried rice with orange chicken and beef broccoli. Their orange chicken is on point! I don't expect too much from Chinese takeout. A classic Chinese take out spot but a good one. The portions are VERY generous and decently priced. The food is all good and very flavorful, I would recommend the garlic green bean chicken. Don't come here. Chow mein is old and overcooked and the fried rice taste like old oil or old starch. It does not taste like fried rice at all. Beef broccoli meat is tough and dry. Broccoli is over cooked and mushy. The wings and shrimp did look good but now I'm concerned on how they actually taste. Service was nice and quick. About the only good thing about my meal today. Have not been here for a while and it looked the same inside but it is apparent that the restaurant is under new ownership. Food was not very fresh and my portion of orange chicken was mostly fried batter crumbs with a couple of pieces of chicken! Sorry to say, I would not waste my money here as it turned out to be a not-so-healthy meal. The servers were very nice, but the quality of food was poor and obvious they cut corners. The bbq pork is delicious and not overly fatty. The green beans and chicken is bomb. The broccoli beef is okay. The beef slices were a bit small but not bad. I was looking for a quick and convenient dinner and stumbled on this place. One way to describe it is a mom-and-pop Panda Express that is not better than Panda. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes give you the best bang for your buck. I got the combo 2, which comes with 2 sides. I got half chow mein and half fried rice along with beef and broccoli and orange chicken. The chow mein noodles were thick but the texture was extremely soft, almost soggy-like. In addition, the orange chicken was really doughy. You don't really get much chicken since there's so much batter. Overall, it's not the best food you'll have but it'll fill you up. Check your food before eating. I didn't notice insects in my white rice till my son said theirs insects in my food. At first I thought it was just one but after checking his white rice it was more than a few. Then rapidly checked my white rice and spotted some insects in my food as well. Last week, I was looking for a Chinese food spot & came across some good reviews for this place & decided to try it out! NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE & WONT BE GOING THERE AGAIN!!!! As we walk in, There was a male & female employee behind the counter and the whole entire time, They were giggling like two 5 year olds while making our plates then we start hearing the cooks in the back horse playing and laughing as well. Didn't think much of it but just how unprofessional every single employee was acting. We get home start eating and then my husband felt something hard, pulls it out his mouth, ITS A LITTLE CHUNK OF METAL!!!!! I immediately call them back MULTIPLE TIMES & now it's 9:20 but they don't close until 9:30 and they NEVER picked up the phone!!! The phone was ringing the first few times then kept going str8 to voicemail!!! ‍ I call the next morning asking for the manager & owners phone number & the female employee said "Ohhh we don't have it" WHAT!? then really asked if I wanted to just order something new in place of the food from the night before. LIKE WHO TF WOULD WANT ANYTHING ELSE FROM THERE!!!!
