I never post ratings about small businesses unless I love them, BUT HUGE WARNING! THIS BUSINESS DOES NOT TAKE ALLERGENS SERIOUSLY!! Met up with a friend for dinner last night and had never been here prior. Ordered vegetable lo mein combo with peeking ravioli and a spring roll while also emphasizing to my waitress that I had a shrimp/crab/lobster allergy. She looked back at her notepad and said everything would be fine. When my food was delivered, I cut into my spring roll and bit into it when I immediately recognized that there was shrimp in the spring roll. Took five minutes from them to get the waitress to come back over in an empty restaurant, and her response was, "oh, I didn't think." That mistake could've sent me into an anaphylactic shock and the waitress didn't seem to care in the slightest. There was no point where she truly apologized, making me question if she even realized the dangerousness of that error. When I asked for my food to be remade, the waitress and cook were arguing about the meal. The cook did not seem to want to remake my meal and considering it came back in less than a quarter of the time the original meal came out, I'm pretty sure that it was just put back in a pan and replated. After potentially almost killing me, they proceeded to still charge me for the meal AND tried to argue that because they remade it, it equaled out and I should pay for the meal. Save yourselves the trouble and headache and find any other place to go for Chinese. Blu Karma and gourmet garden are within 1 mile of this place and the quality of food you're going to get is unbelievable with people who actually care about the severity of allergies. Worst food ever. We got four dishes, takeout. The Hot and Sour soup was a big bowl of thick cornstarch water with vinegar. No other flavor. Lots of tofu, lots of shredded tofu, and a few shreds of something that was probably plant matter. Hard to tell with no flavor. The texture of the shreds ranged from typical tofu softness to inedibly tough. Nothing was fresh. The Seafood Mei Fen, was a huge glob of gelatinous noodle fused into a single blob, with a few medium shrimp and what appeared to be one thinly sliced scallop in the large serving. The "Crispy Fried Shrimp" were huge donuts of dough, raw inside, with a medium shrimp sliced in half, shriveled up and dry in the middle. Completely inedible. The Chicken in garlic sauce was simply bland, flavorless thin slabs of leathery chicken in a cornstarch and water sauce. Again, no discernable flavor. We spent $70 dollars and had to make sandwiches for dinner. The food was awful. My family convinced me to try it again, even though the first time was disappointing. This was worse. I started to write a review and cannot say enough bad things. First of all I put an order in and when I got there, they had not received the order. It was supposed to be ready 15 minutes after I ordered and when I got there, I had to 15 minutes to wait for it to be cooked. When I gutted at home, I could not believe that there was not real chicken and either my chicken with vegetables or my moo guy pan. We literally took whatever was in the food and took it out just to try to salvage the vegetables. The pork fried rice was incredibly salty. I would never ever go here. Had an order delivered on the night before New Year's Eve. The order arrived in a timely fashion, hot and freshly cooked. Chicken wings crisp but juicy, likewise the egg rolls, chop suey had ample meat and the vegetables were perfectly stirfried. We also tried the spicy string beans w onion and that dish was spiced just right with pepper flakes and hot oil. Added to this, the house provided an order of chicken lo mein to honor a menu coupon. Sadly, food has been steadily going downhill. The quality of chicken used in the chicken dishes has always been marginal but until recently the food has been ok. Unfortunately, I ordered lobster sauce. It's nearly inedible. There is very little flavor. The liquid it's in tastes like dishwater because of the lack of flavor. All it tastes like is unseasoned cooked meat(pork?). I'm being generous with this description. I showed coworkers what they served me and they were wondering why it was so off color and watery. It's so bad I want to return it. If I didn't think it would be a fight I'd return the meal. I've been eating at this place for about 10 years. I can understand raising your prices due to what's going on in the economy right now but a $4-5 dollar increase on all items is unheard of! Horrible experience would be a huge understatement. I order dinner through DoorDash, and received a text message that "Hong Kong has confirmed your order". I tracked the order being prepared for an hour when it then changed to "order complete". I called to let them know that the order never came and a women apologized that they were very busy, which was ok with me. Then a man got on the phone to tell me that they canceled the order (again, that didn't happen it was confirmed) because they don't deliver that far. I live 9 minutes away. I told him that isn't really how DoorDash works and they shouldn't be on there if they are going to just not deliver meals with no notice just because they don't feel like it. I was screamed over to the point I took the phone from my face and said "wow f- off" quietly as I hung up ready to move on with my life. Not so much - the owner, I presume, called back immediately to argue more and curse me out for being rude to his employee, going as far as to call me "a f-ing animal". I hope he finds god. Ok I am officially done with this place. I have not ordered here in years as I felt the service went downhill. The last time I ordered was a few years ago and I ordered online, waited like 30 mins and then went there only to find out they didn't put the order in and I was stuck there for another 30 mins. So fast forward to yesterday. Had to go to Christmas party, wife asks me to order chicken wings, I hesitantly order from this place as it was quick and the other place I like was pricey as I was ordering a few orders of chicken wings. So I order. Wife goes to pick it up. I meet her at the party, we open it and sure enough. They f'd up the order. Gave us chicken fingers instead and it was a small order. Chicken fingers sucked also. Not a bad Chinese restaurant. I was in the Danvers area for a conference and I stumbled upon this place as I needed a quick lunch fix. Hong Kong Cafe was exactly what I needed. A fast lunch choice! The Cafe is very clean and family owned. I was quickly seated in a large booth near the window. I ordered L21, Szechuan spicy beef w/ pork fried rice and chicken fingers. Water, tea, and a local paper entertained me for 10 minutes and out came my lunch, piping hot. For a quick Tuesday lunch for $7.75, lunch was delicious and filling. Not greasy. Good attentive service. I like how they service the duck sauce in a maple syrup decanter. Cute. In and out in under 30 minutes. Now that is a business lunch. read more

I've ordered delivery from here on an almost weekly basis and found the food quality to be inconsistent. When its good its great. When not, its is disgusting. One of my staples, beef teriyaki, is normally the best that I've ever had. On several occassions, however, it came through like shoe leather. Last night I ordered several items all but one of which were very good. The "Orange Flavor Beef" was utterly disgusting. The beef was fatty and chewy with no flavor. A call to the restaurant was responded with "you should not order something that you do not like". I explained that I had ordered it before there and liked it. He responded with "there's nothing I can do". While their delivery is normally very good and prompt, we will not be ordering from them again. My wife and I ordered delivery on Saturday. We placed our order over the phone and included the tip for the driver, as we were paying by credit card. When the driver arrived he says to my wife Aren't you going to tip me. She then explains to him she gave him a tip through the order already and that it was included on our total. He then looks at the receipt and checks it make sure she wasn't lying to him This is completely rude and unprofessional Hope he enjoyed his tip because you lost our business We will never be ordering from you again. read more

Excellent food. Had to wait a while for refills while we were only ones in restaurant, but still very good food.

Our first night in Danvers we had no idea what would be opened or where to go. My sister and I stumbled into Hong Kong Cafe an we were so glad that we did! The food was exceptional, portions were large, and the price was very reasonable. Probably the best crab rangoons I have ever eaten. read more

This is the worst place out of all the Chinese places in the whole Danvers area. After telling them that one of my kids has seafood allergies , they still managed to cook seafood and the regular food together and put it all in one box together. After that my son got an allergic reaction and needed to be brought to the nearest ER. Typical greasy Americanized Chinese food, oh also Japanese and an assortment of other things thrown in. I liked the sushi we ordered but their sauteed udon noodles were gross gross gross. Everything smelled or tasted like onions, including the fortune cookies, it was clear whoever packed our order had also just gotten done chopping onions and then handled everything in the bag. I smelled like onions for days. That's really not a big deal, but the gross udon noodles were. The house fried rice was really good and the teriyaki beef was ok. I can order Americanized Chinese food of a similar quality and quantity from places closer to home, and sometimes if I'm feeling saucy, better Americanized Chinese food. Horrible and borderline rude service. We waited and waited at every step. My son's dish came 20 minutes before my sushi, which didn't taste fresh and I'm pretty sure was previously frozen. When I inquired 15 minutes after the other dish had arrived, I was treated like I was being extremely rude. I was explaining to my son that dishes are supposed to come out around the same time. The staff had no knowledge of this apparently peculiar American expectation. Server never came by, and party next to us were acting like they were celebrating a drunken high school reunion. I just tried calling to place an order for my boyfriend and the guy who picked up the phone wouldn't take my order and hung up the phone on me only because I gave him my bf's number and not my number that I'm calling from. Used to be good, now has falled WAYYYY by the wayside. When they changed to "New" Hong Kong Cafe, it was amazing. Now, the last few times or so that I've experienced this place, it's been nothing but a shame. The most recent one: Ordered 2 plates, no big deal, right? I got the broccoli chicken combo, which had a good amount of rice...and maybe 4 broccoli florets? Along with 6 pieces of thinly sliced chicken? Had enough sauce for triple that amount, at least. The lady-friend-person that I'm acquainted with for the long haul got a lo-mein and rice combo. It didn't come with lo-mein, and the appetizers also weren't abundant. Seems like they've been making these mistakes for a good while now. Sad and disappointed, we won't be coming back here for a good long while. Nice little place in downtown Danvers. It's a Chinese/ Japanese place, not unlike a lot of places. Difference is, they actually cook everything correctly. Seemly most places have something they screw up( undercooked rice, Burnt steak teriyaki, etc.), but this place does not have one. At least not one that I've discovered yet. The owner is a very friendly man, always making you feel welcome. Couple of tables and a small bar make up this place, although it is primarily a take out spot. Good food, good price, this is my go to for take out Chinese food. read more
