This used to be our go to Chinese restaurant in town, then I don't know if ownership changed but quality went down. Tonight after a couple years I thought I would give it a try. Keeping it simple I ordered chix chop suey and pineapple fried rice. Order a non standard rice typically means your getting freshly made fried rice versus the pork fried rice which was made prior to the Vietnam conflict. Tonight I was presently surprised. The rice was light and fluffy,freshly made with nice pieces of pineapple. The chop suey was filled with fresh vegetables that weren't soggy and had a crisp finish. The crab rangoon was awful as was the chicken fried rice; the rice had no flavor, the chicken in it was rubbery and the crab rangoon tasted funky. The Gen Tso Chicken was chewy, which it shouldn't have been because I waited at the restaurant while the food was cooked and live 4 minutes down the road. I hate to complain with all that's going on in the world. I ordered food for Christmas eve 2 days in advance and paid for it at that time. Only $100 worth of food nothing crazy. My food was ready at 9:15 at that point I didn't even care about the food. But others wanted it. They should stop taking orders if they can't handle the orders that they have. Average chinese food served in an ugly building in serious need of renovation. However, I'd much rather support this place than the other two cheap chinese restaurants in town. Relatively inexpensive and extremely fast service. I get the basic americanized chinese food crap every time and it's nearly always good (i.e. wings/fingers/scallion pancakes/ribs/etc.) Do NOT eat here. Take it to go. I was overcharged for my food and the plastic container they put my food in had holes in it like they had put it in the microwave I got Orange beef and it was Robbery so that is the last time I'm getting food from here the first time I got food from them I got hot and sour soup and it was sweet like someone put duck sauce in it vary vary vary gross read more

This was once our favorite Chinese take-out on the North Shore but it has become very inconsistent. Over the last couple years we have had excellent food sometimes but other time not so much. Our last couple visits have been the latter. The food was way too salty and vegetables were mushy, not crunchy. They used to not use MSG in their dishes; that was why we liked it so much. But, now they put MSG in many dishes. We asked the owner and he simply replied that the recipe calls for MSG. We are looking for a new place to get our Chinese food fix each month. read more

Not only did I have to repeat my order for ONE 3 times but same thing with my address at an apartment complex. I was sick with the flu and was called by the same person who took my order that the driver was their and to go downstairs to get it.I repeated my apt #4 times and he couldn't understand me or cared not to because he hung up on me.I got dressed and went all the way downstairs to see a kid in his teens who spoke perfect English leaning up against his car waiting for me.He didn't even walk up the front stairs to the door. DO NOT EAT HERE. I have never had such bad food poisoning in my life. I was supposed to go on vacation for Memorial Day and instead spent the day in bed with the worst stomach cramps and lets just say... Everything else you would associate with food poisoning. Go ahead and eat here but be prepared to be up until 2 AM the following day with the worst sickness one could think of. There are people who post reviews to be petty... Since the old management came back , the quality of the food has been ALOT better. The prices are still a little high but it seems like price increases have been across the board at most, if not all, Chinese restaurants. I recommend again the 88 restaurant in Danvers. read more

I really like this place. It's what I want when I crave American Chinese food. The chicken fingers and wings are nice and crispy. The roast pork soup and hot and sour soup are delicious. I wish the fried shrimp were in a finger form, not a circle, but that's just a general preference. I don't know what this place was like before, but I like it now. We ordered take out for a small family get together on a recent Sunday afternoon, and we were very satisfied with our food. This was the second time we tried 88 in Danvers. While not perfect, the quality of the food was good, and the preparation/technique was notable. The first item ordered was the House Special "Yang Chow" Fried Rice. The white rice was rather dry and sticky, but sufficiently accompanied by various meats, shrimp and vegetables. The magic of their fried rice was that it is wasn't greasy, and not over-salted, like most places seem to serve. Next up was the Pork Egg Foo Young, which was filled with sprouts, pork, onions, and eggs, was well-seasoned, and again, not greasy, which is key for this dish. We also ordered the Beef Teriyaki, with 7 sticks to the order, that were rather small, a bit dry, but pleasantly marinated, and certainly enjoyable. The Chicken Wings were large, meaty, moist and tasty. The Beef Chow Mein was rather nondescript, with plenty of sprouts, a flour-based sauce/gravy, but a bit short on the amount of beef. The last item ordered was the House Special Rice Noodle, which wasn't really on the menu, but they prepared the item as requested. It was well-seasoned, and contained a variety of meats, shrimp and vegetables, including cabbage, which was a nice touch. While sometimes coming across bland, a very light sprinkle of salt (or soy sauce) is all that might be needed for some of their dishes---and I'd rather be the one adding the additional salt, rather than the chef in the kitchen. Also, I did want to mention that this restaurant seems to take the time to clean even the smallest of shrimp for most of their dishes... this is also a nice touch, of course... most places do not bother to clean the small shrimp! Overall, it was a GOOD meal, that wasn't over seasoned or salty, and definitely not greasy. The prices were reasonable, as local Chinese take-out fare goes. It's a hit or miss with these guys. It's a little annoying if I set an order to pick up at a particular time, that when I arrive there.. it's pretty much like I just arrived & have to wait like I placed a new order "We want to keep the food hot". If I'm late picking it up and it's not hot, that's my problem. Otherwise this order ahead is of no benefit to me, it's just annoyance. Been ordering here for the last year: mostly been good (for cheap chinese), but yesterday was a mess. The order took an hour to complete (ordered online, and they only started my order when i arrived 30 minutes after ordering and they then noticed they had some online orders). 30 minutes later got my order: pu-pu platter missing half pieces, one other item swapped, and the salted calamari was one piece and a pile of lettuce. Went with a few family members, the staffs are polite, didn't have much of a long wait. Definitely will go again when I crave Chinese food.

My family used to love this place for their Chinese food (especially the thin shrimp rice noodles.) However we will not be returning to this place. We recently ordered take out and we found a metal bolt, I repeat, a METAL BOLT in our food. Upon discovery, we called the restaurant and (when we asked) they would refund our meal... but only this once. So essentially they are saying it is going to happen again. I didn't know take-out Chinese was synonymous with a box of Cracker Jacks... at least Cracker Jacks come with a cool, harmless surprise. read more

I called in my order at 6:20 PM and my husband went to pick it up at 6:45 (one hour wait for delivery), and we live about 10 minutes from there. He arrived and the order wasn't ready. The person at the counter asked what we ordered and my husband repeated the order. At 7PM the food still wasn't ready, he had to go through the same process again. At 7:15 still no food and he repeated the order yet again. By 7:30 and still no food, he went up to the counter and they still hadn't put in the order. He left at that point. I was so upset I called them only to find they still had no record of our order. I went down there just so the owner could see how angry I was. They went through the whole routine again but still couldn't locate our order even though they seem to use a POS system. Spoke to the owner and told him " I understand you are very busy, I will make it a little less busy for you by never ordering here again". We order and average of twice a month and tip the drivers very well. I'm firm in my conviction not to return. read more
