The young lady said, "Oh, I realized you left your card and was going to run after you, but..." But what? Finish your sentence. "But, I was too involved with my phone and just couldn't break away from it to give you back your card." There, doesn't the truth feel better? It's a shame that cell phones are allowed to be openly used by employees while working. Quite a distraction from their paid responsibilities.

When we burned a couple of them, we had difficulty discerning any scent, even standing close to the candle. We didn't plan on returning them, but we returned to the store so my wife could pick out the free candle to which my earlier purchase entitled her. When we mentioned that we couldn't really smell any scent from the other candles, the associate was extremely helpful. Rather than taking the attitude of, "Hey, it's not our problem if you can't smell," she pointed out that the scents I had chosen were intentionally very subtle, and that each person responds differently to different scents. She suggested that we return the candles which hadn't worked for us, and she helped us select scents which were stronger (to us, at least). Customer service was absolutely A+, and my wife is happy to have candles that give off the stronger scent that she prefers. I highly recommend this business.
