Over the past two years I've taken mine and my girlfriend's cars in for various service including oil changes, tire rotations and troubleshooting of miscellaneous noise. The latter came up today to which I called and spoke to Maria and Norm. I was advised to bring my car in right away and didn't hesitate. Less than an hour after dropping my car off, Maria rang me back to explain the findings. I was relieved to find out that my worst fears about CV boots, brakes or even axle problems had not been realized as there was a rock that got lodged in an odd place. Not only did they remove it, but Eddie, the mechanic, took it upon himself to inspect the other tires and brakes reporting that all were in good shape. To my surprise, they didn't charge me a cent which only lends to my long list of praise for this business. Regardless of whether I'm using a Groupon for synth oil changes that make me feel guilty (REALLY good price!) or the aforementioned troubleshooting, these guys go beyond for their customers! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone and while I realize my situation isn't the case for any business 100% of the time, I suspect it is for these guys for a vast majority. read more

**Extremely Disappointed with the Pricing and Front Desk Service** I went to Honest-1 Auto Care for one simple task: removing a single screw from my license plate that I could not remove myself. To my disbelief, the front desk charged me **$66.28 for this minor service**--the same price range as an oil change! I understand that businesses need to charge for their services, and I never expected the work to be free. However, charging this amount to remove just one license plate screw is, in my opinion, completely unreasonable and excessive. Unfortunately, this was not my first disappointing experience with this shop. During my first visit for an oil change, the same front desk staff member told me they were very busy and suggested that I take an available appointment slot. Yet, when I arrived, there appeared to be very little business. That experience already raised concerns, but I decided to give the shop another chance because the mechanics seemed competent. This time, however, I have had enough. The issue is not with the mechanics, who seemed decent, but with the front desk's approach to customer service and pricing. Customers should not have to question whether they are being charged a reasonable amount for a basic service. A business should be transparent and exercise sound judgment when pricing even the smallest jobs. There are plenty of auto repair shops in Vancouver, and I have no reason to return to one where I feel the pricing is so disproportionate to the work performed. **I will not be returning to Honest-1 Auto Care, and I would encourage other customers to ask for the price upfront before agreeing to any service, no matter how minor it may seem.** read more

I have been going to Honest-1 Auto for my oil changes for many years. They regularly run a deal through groupon of around $80 for 4 oil changes, and sometimes you can get it even less than that. It's a super good deal. The people are friendly and honest. I realize the oil change is to get you in the place to find other maintenance items, that they can sell you. Many shops do this. Actually, I find it helpful to have someone look over my vehicle to find issues. At this point, I can either do the work myself or have them do it. The vast majority of the time, the work they find, is truly something that is of concern. I have gone to other shops where they tell me bogus problems, which Honest-1 doesn't do; I appreciate this. read more

Our car broke down 630 miles from home in the Portland area on a Friday night. We were able to get a tow to our hotel for the night. It's not easy finding a shop open on a Saturday in general. But the fact that we were supposed to be headed home on Sunday made things a little more complicated. Most shops didn't even want to look at our car since they were only open a half day. Susie was amazing! She was reassuring and made sure we were back on the road in time to head home. She went above and beyond from trying to help us get a rental to rush ordering parts. Her customer service was top notch. We are very grateful for the services we received from honest 1. I give them 10/10 and would absolutely be back there if we were local. You guys are awesome! This is by far one of the worst shops I've ever been to I put a 2 Inch leveling kit on my vehicle. It recommends after doing this having an alignment done to adjust camber I took my vehicle in here 6000 miles ago to have this done unfortunately I am getting camber wear on the outside of my tire. When I came back in today they told me I needed to pay for another alignment because it needed to be adjusted again when it was not adjusted right the first time then they told me they would refuse to do it because I argued with them about having to pay for a job that was just completed anybody knows with tire where it's going to take a Little mileage to see that it is not correct but they refused to do anything to help avoid the shop read more

This shop is true to their name, honest, up front & understanding of where the customer is coming from. I'm from San Diego & I had been visiting in the area. When I left to head south, I had to turn back from Ashland, OR to come back to Vancouver. They diagnosed the problem immediately, but unfortunately the dealer didn't have the parts needed. They went above & beyond to keep up with the dealership & as soon as they came in, THEY went to get them rather than wait for delivery. I had an appointment set a week in advance and when I brought my car, with the whole day free to spend there, they still said there were too many cars ahead of me and I could drop it off the next day. They were aware of all the things I needed done and had AN APPOINTMENT and they "couldn't fit me in." They also overcharged my partner for what they did, and said a part was missing that hadn't been before it went in. He ended up having to pay double the original price. It used to be a place I could trust but that has gone down the toilet. Not a place to take your car if you don't want inconsistencies and to spend upwards of thousands of dollars for a few simple things. read more

Dishonest pricing! Sloppy work! Go elsewhere! The company tried to charge me over $600 dollars to diagnose "issues", all of which electrical. Each "issue"another 139 dollars, outlet not working? $139, lights not working $139, dash light on $139, I'm sure you see where this is going. When I refused he suddenly was able to lower the price to only $139, almost like he didn't need to charge all of that in the first place. The guy refused to listen when I told them the issue, I've had it fixed before with another auto repair company and thought I would give this one a try. This shop is full of SCAM ARTISTS, maybe another location is better. Not bother with this one. I gave them 2 stars because they helped me get my keys out of my car, I have triple A. I advised them of this but they insisted on helping, damaging my car in the process. Now I have several large scrapes, bends and paint missing because they "helped". Car needed tune-up plus had a check engine light for emissions- long story short, they charged me a diagnostic fee (over $100 bucks) to re-connect a loose hose and looked no further, over-filled my oil and spilled it everywhere causing oil to spill in my garage. Check engine light came back on 30 miles later, they "found" the supposed issue, charged me 230% of retail for the part they replaced. 30 more miles and the light came on AGAIN - when I took it back a third time, they only checked their previous "work" and advised me that they would need to do a deep diagnostic ($450.00) to locate the issue...by this time I knew I was dealing with an awful company, called them out on the cost of the part, to which I was advised that they would look into it - and yet, was never called back...oh, and took the car to Top Performance in Camas...the check engine light was due to a cracked hose and THEY did not charge me at all for diagnosing such a simple repair... Do NOT take your vehicle to this place in less you want to be charged egregious prices for shoddy work! read more

I came in for a routine oil change and the guy behind the desk almost threatened me and said I dont have a choice but to buy tires there. When I finally got through to him I was not buying tires there he finished my oil change but screwed up the oil change giving my car back to me with wrong fluids or no fluids my car did not run right I had to take it back for them to correct it and even then it did not run right it no makes a strange whiny sound when I hit the gas from an idol and now my tires have a grip problem. I have been bringing my cat to this location for years and have never seen. The crew that was there before but they were the worst and now my car has trouble. What had happened here it used to be a place I can trust if I could give less then 1 star I would this was bad I don't know. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! I wish I would have seen the YEARS of horrible reviews this shop had received before going there myself. Don't just take my word for it. If you go online and look at reviews on Google or any other review site you will see COUNTLESS 1 star reviews from others who have been taken advantage of by this shop. After I was taken advantage of I went online to do some digging and realized this has been happening to other people too for years. We brought a truck to them - long story short we paid over $2000 for "repairs" while the truck was never diagnosed properly. Got the truck back and they never fixed the problem. They only wanted more money after all the "repairs" they did which never fixed the core issue. Not only that but the shops prices when compared to others are astronomically high. But as I said before - please do your own research before taking your vehicle here, the people who work there don't take care of the community and its sad they have gotten away with poor service like this for YEARS. This shop told me I needed new brake wheel cylinders due to them leaking for $400. I ordered the parts to do the job myself and boy was I surprised!!!! First the lug nuts were to tight, well past the recommended torque of 100 ft lbs. broke them loose at 150 ft lbs. and now my wheel cylinders. BONE DRY, there is no leak. I don't trust this shop further then I can throw them. Do not go to this shop!!!! read more

Do not use these guys. Went there for a simple ignition switch change, ended up costing over $800! In the process they messed up some wires and the radio light and clock no longer worked. They refused to fix it but did offer to replace the radio with a used one for an additional $400!!! read more

Really disappointed in this shop. Went in for an oil change and they did their regular inspection. Told me I had a leak in my water pump and that I should replace my timing belt too. This is a typical need for Honda's between 60-100,000 miles. I had both done a few years back and was suprised that it would be leaking. I only had 25,000ish miles since the repair. Took it back to the shop I had the repair done. When the mechanic put on the lift, he showed me that there was no leak. HOWEVER, the mechanic at Honest 1 did not put the bolt back properly when they changed my oil. The bolt was loose enough to take off by hand. It had leaked over 3 QUARTS of oil. 3 QUARTS. I am angry. And at this point there is no way to know if their lack of attention to detail has had negative effects to my engine. Badly done. read more

I wish I could continue to recommend this place that I've gone for 2 years. They tried to sell me an $87 radiator for $180. I decided to bring my own, so they changed a higher installation service rate (+ $20/hr I believe). According to the front desk, this was a recent policy change by the owner. I was also warned that if I bring the "wrong part", I'd now be charged the standard labor amount per hr till I bring the correct one ($105/hr). This would have been a big problem last time as the "correct" part did not actually exist in any book for my vehicle, because someone had modified the engine before I bought it. The "correct" part had to be fabricated on site using parts from the old one. As a result of these policy changes I'll be looking for another auto shop that either doesn't mark up the parts 100% or doesn't mind when I bring my own. read more

If I could leave a no-star review I would. I've taken my car to couple different mechanics in Denver and repairs were always completed properly and honestly; but I would NEVER recommend the crooks at Honest-1. They swapped out an engine thermostat which I had requested but left me with a check engine light still on and did not very the repair fixed the issue. Their mechanic stated there was a crack in the upper radiator hose and they did replace that as well. However they missed a clearly compromised engine coolant temp sensor and they replaced the old, stripped out thermostat housing bolts stating they could not find any in stock. I found the screws available for pickup the same day within 10 minutes of this shop. It's a sad day when an untrained lay person can quickly search google for the necessary parts for proper repair and trained mechanics cannot properly repair a vehicle and send it back to the customer in good working order. I attempted to contact the shop and was met with very unprofessional resistance by the shop manger who's job should be to listen to the customer and make things right. I am never taking my vehicles to this shop again. Please beware of these crooks and their unprofessional and untrained staff! read more

I'll kick this off by saying readers should definitely check out all 1 and 2 star reviews. There's a common theme, which shows up here too. My car's engine was making an odd sound on startup, a metallic rattling, so I brought it into Honest-1 for them to check out. They told me that based on my description it sounded like some deep engine components might need replacing. Said getting into the engine could take several days, and estimated me at $2500-3000 if their suspicions were correct. Over the course of the next week of "engine disassembly", that number slowly climbed to just over $5000. They said the problem parts weren't even supposed to be replaced, ever, but when I talked to different employees I heard slightly different stories. I was prepared for a couple thousand dollars, but not five grand. Ended up telling them I'd have to sit on it for awhile and had them put everything back together and send me on my way. Took my car into a dealership a few days later and had them run their own diagnostics. They did that, dug into my engine, fixed the real problem, and had my car back to me the same day for $160. The real issue was 100% unrelated to anything Honest-1 told me, and my car now runs fine. No one at the dealer could believe I was quoted that much. At best, these guys are grossly incompetent. At worst, they're shameless thieves. Either way, there's no excuse for such a ridiculous quote. Do not give them your business. read more

I've been going to honest-1 for the past two or three years. I've had them do everything from oil changes/scheduled maintenance to large $1,500+ repairs. Good: * the car is ready when they say it will be * I don't feel like they've ever tried to cheat me or recommend work that it didn't need * they seem to be moderately priced Bad: * they don't seem to have a reliable way to keep track of why I brought the car in. You have to double check when they tell you that the car is ready to go that they actually performed all of the tasks you asked for. I asked them to check on a new squeak, noise during my last scheduled maintenance... they never did. * no shuttle service (I think my dealer's service center has spoiled me for expecting a ride home) * they've repaired it wrong before. They installed something wrong with the timing belt or cover. I assumed it was common for a new belt to make noise and just needed a break in period. So I didn't think much of it. But I took it to the dealer recently for its scheduled service and the dealer service center said they did it wrong. I took it back to honest-1. They fixed it under their three year warranty but it still required a return visit and being without my car for four days. * the final straw for me was today when I got it back and after they fixed the belt and it smells horribly of body odor and mechanic grease. The steering wheel, gear shift knob, and parking brake feel dirty. It's commensurate with what would happen if a sweaty technician with dirty hands drove it around without any protective covering over the seat. I'm sitting at the car wash next door getting the full service interior cleaning. It needed a good cleaning anyway but my motivation for being here is the new b.o. smell. I'm hoping the interior cleaning will help. I like the front desk folks at honest-1 and I don't think that they're trying to cheat me. But When I take my car in, I want it back in better condition than I dropped it off. Lately, honest-1 has missed the mark on that target. read more

Update after almost a year of servicing: I've honestly been blown away by this shop. I wouldn't call them quick, they take over an hour to get an oil change done on my 08 Honda civic. They are reliable, though, and booking appointments is easy as pie. They have been true to their word in honoring my booklet of services without up-sells or scams. They have done four oil changes on our vehicles that have gone smoothly. Last week they really went above and beyond- proving to me that these guys are really interested in the well-being of the vehicle and not focused on money. We brought in a 2001 Volvo Cross Country that was making LOUD noises when we turned. The receptionist on the phone said it was probably a power steering pump failing, and could run around $400-500. So we brought it in, more than happy to have the work done. After a few hours, we got a call at work that the car has been thoroughly inspected and they didn't feel like the car needed ANY work. They said they weren't sure where the noise came from or why it started, but they couldn't find anything to make them want to do anything to the car. The noise had stopped, too. I was honestly BLOWN AWAY. I have never had a mechanic tell me "we don't think it's a problem and don't need to do anything to the car" in my ENTIRE LIFE. This mechanic could have easily told us it was the pump and taken our money; we would have been more than happy to pay for the repair. But this guy was good to us and didn't lie about the condition of the vehicle. When leaving, they didn't charge us a dime for the inspection. Through and through, these guys have been awesome. I'm incredibly thankful to the mechanic for being honest about the car's needs. We are very tight on money, and it really is so appreciated that we didn't pay for work that was improperly identified. I know that not every person has left this shop with a great experience, but I believe they have taken excellent care of us this far. Still very impressed. Keep it up H1. The prices are right, the people that work there are friendly, have never had a bad experience at any of their locations as I have used 4 of them over the last 10 plus years. They are very friendly, but that is the only good thing I can say. My son had work done here on his pickup truck. They took advantage of his lack of mechanical knowledge and overcharged him by a lot. We are talking 200$ for a starter that retails for 65$ and then another 150$ labor. A few weeks later he gets stranded truck won't start, same grinding noise he went in for. I went to go Help him, checking the starter and 1 of the 2 mounting bolts is so loose I can spin it out by hand!!! I pulled the starter out and these bolts have lock washers on them there is no reason they would have vibrated loose. Went to the auto parts store, paid 75$ for a quality starter, installed it, and my son starts it up and remarks "wow it starts better than when I got it from the shop". Hmm imagine that. So my son and me took starter that this "professional" mechanic shop installed and drove to this business When my son and I explained what happened, we were told "this is why we have a warranty mistakes happen"... I explained that is unacceptable for a professional shop. The receptionist consulted the mechanic and refunded the 200$for the part, but we were told that for the labor we could have store credit, we refused the store credit (will not be coming back there) The mechanic came and said he had many years experience and he is sure he used a torque wrench on the bolts but I don't buy it... My mother in law has had work done here also and has had to return with the same problem she went in for multiple times. It seems to me they are either taking advantage of people that don't understand vehicles, overcharging, and are being negligent in checking their work. I definitely do not recommend this business. Brought a vehicle in to have soft breaks checked, received the vehicle back and it went from needing work to having almost no breaking. was told by Master mechanic that it was definitely safe now. When we called to say the brakes are worse than before and unsafe, Master mechanic and manager just made excuses for their work and lack of diagnosing the problem instead doing what was right and fixing the problem. Spent 5 hours waiting in the shop for shotty work and charged almost 5 hundred. Now lives are in danger from their work and we are back to step one, find an honest mechanic. read more

Car died while i was driving late at night. Called my triple a looking for someone, they "prefered" I go wtih these guys. Towed the car over to have them check my altenator because i suspected it was the issue. Being the trusting soul that I am, I figured at most there would be like a 50 or 80 dollar charge. $148 later, I get a call telling me what I had expected. $125 to run a check? Some labor charge. Look, I'm not one to typically leave reviews, but this genuinely bothered me enough to say something. I don't want to sit here and be nasty. I took my vehicle in for a wheel alignment. The place seemed a bit strange. The lady behind the counter spent most of the time I was there in the waiting room discussing flight details on the company phone which seemed weird. I did not wait long to be provided with some things that were wrong with my vehicle. Only to find out that I was being told information about a car that wasn't mine and was nearly given the wrong car. When I did finally get the list of the many things that were "wrong," with my car, I was told that my timing belt was in bad shape and that I needed fluids and a new radiator cap. I was told it would be almost 1400$ for it to get fixed. I took it to 2 other places and had another friend of mine who is a mechanic who all took 1 look at the timing belt and had no idea what they're evaluation was based off of. The timing belt was only replaced about 2 weeks before my visit. I was going to be charged almost 40$ for a new radiator cap alone and went to an auto store and bought one for $7. So, essentially, something I was going to be charged almost $1500 for, turned out to be a neglectful look at the timing belt, a $7 cap, and an 80$ radiator flush. Was just very unhappy altogether. It looks like these reviews are responded to, which is nice, I suppose. Sometimes crazy people leave reviews, but this is just genuine concern. I wouldn't ever bring my car back there. I don't have a lot of money to spend in the first place, and I would have wasted a ton of it for no reason. read more
