This is my favorite pizza place in Wells. Great subs and pizza! Wife likes his steak and cheese, and I love his sausage grinder and meatball grinder, all three always perfect and his pizza is always fantastic. I was glad when he moved from Springvale to Wells. People are put off by the owner's demeanor at times (based on some of the reviews) , but he is actually a pretty nice guy if you give him a chance. read more

Turns out, he's just not a nice guy. The food was processed, and just not very good, and also kinda pricey. No veggies hardly for the sub. The two brothers (behind the register and cook) are completely miserable to the point that you even wonder why they are in this business. Rude to their clientele (which is literally 2 people during rush), unaccommodating for simple requests, and angry for no apparent reason. Up for the night visiting the area. Ordered from here for ease of pickup and enjoying hotel amenities. First off the customer service on the phone left much to be desired. I placed a simple order of a large cheese and a small French fry. I was told 15 minutes and click the call hangs up. We pick up within that window maybe 5 minutes Over the quoted time. The sole gentleman working states that the order just came out $22.95 down the toilet. Pizza was the most inedible cheese pizza ever. Dough was not a fresh dough but one pre made and pulled from the freezer earlier this month...beyond dry. Sauce and cheese tasted rancid... The French fries were crinkle cut and served in an brown paper bag. Pizza was ok, 5 chicken tenders for 11.75 is a bit too steep especially when one of the chicken fingers was a the size of a small child's ring finger. I was in disbelief of what I witnessed today in the short time I was in this establishment. The scruffy guy who took our order was very rude when my colleague asked a question. While the guy was dealing with us, he took a call, and hung up on them. Just in case you're wondering if this place deserves all the bad reviews, it 100% does! Don't waste your time. Food is mid and overpriced. Service is the worst I've experienced in the northeast. The one miserable worker (possibly owner) ignored me upon entering and only half listened to my order and I had to correct him. What ambiance? I should have read the reviews before heading in. I intended to get burgers and food at DQ Next door but found out it's an ice cream only DQ. DQ here would absolutely kill it if they offered burgers and fries. Got cheese pizza which was over cooked and kids barely ate any...that never happens. Crinkle cut fries salvaged the lunch they were actually very good. Steak and cheese...! The earlier tenure was spot on that said it's probably broiled or something and the meat was well very weird textured, got onions which were cool so they were definitely not cooked on the griddle and the cheese was put in after the fact in slices, not cooked with the steak on the griddle. The food is ok..... The service is absolutely terrible. I've been here a few times and tried to go more during the last couple months to support as many local businesses as I could. The last interaction, which will be the last interaction could have been handled very simply. Instead the man behind the counter who was not wearing any kind of face covering nor was anyone else working there (I'm not sure what the laws are regarding that at the moment but I know every other restaurant I've visited lately they have been wearing them) was very dismissive and rude about my concerns that their door sign advertises the use of ApplePay. Yet it is actually not an option there due to them not being equipped for it. I know it's something small and most of the population are not effected by this. But during a time where contactless method of payments are becoming more normal, being rude to a patron that addresses a potential issue should not be the answer. Especially when it's as easy as taking down or modifying the sign to be more accurate to avoid issues later with other customers. If this were the first incident where the person working behind the counter was less than professional I would have chalked it up to maybe he was having a bad day. Unfortunately, I have had several incidents where being rude and dismissive is the common theme and apparently after reading a number of comments I'm not the only person. Like i said at the beginning the food is ok. But a serious attitude adjustment needs to happen within the constructs of the business. I highly suggest the restaurant take a good look at Jon Taffer's from Bar Rescue free new training on resetting America. My family and I have been vacationing in Wells for at least 15 years. In all those years we've received mostly courteous service from food establishments. Except today when I had to deal with the rude, unclean-looking, fat slob with reddish-grey-blonde hair who was behind the counter Friday, 9/23/22, around 2 p.m. I asked a very simple and common question: How many slices in the 10" pizza. His reply: He pointed to the wall and said "it's a 10" pizza". I replied: Yes, how many slices does it bring? His reply: "I can cut it into 12, 24, how many slices do you want?" By then I was in disbelief that someone manning the front counter at a pizza joint and to whom I was about to give my hard-earned money would answer so rudely and refuse to provide a correct answer. I told him I needed to know how many slices in the 10" before we ordered. He said it's a 10" pizza, get out of here! And he walked to the kitchen area. Unfortunately, my husband had walked straight from outside into the restroom, it was very cold outside, I couldn't leave until he came out so I stood to the side waiting for him. We then left immediately. I asked my husband if the bathroom was clean. He said it was dark, dim and filthy, there was a ring of what looked like excrement all around the inside of the toilet bowl. So...the Google review from 6 months ago mentioning a dim bathroom still stands...6 months later. The condition of a business restroom is indicative of the type of care the owner or manager gives the business and this includes the kitchen. I'm glad we did not eat there, who knows what could be lurking on the food prep counters, the containers that hold the food, if all food is kept at correct temperatures, if dishes are properly sanitized, etc. Judging from the personal appearance of this slob today and by my husband's restroom comments, prospective customers should stay away from this business. ++++++++++++++++++ FYI...Complaints shown in Google reviews for this business: 4 years ago, 1 year ago, 4 months ago, 2 months ago, a month ago...This is the sequence of complaints in Google Reviews for the treatment customers received at Home Town Pizza at 1517 Post Rd. #9, Wells, ME by the fat slob at the front counter. Had a terrible experience there today . I got a large plain pizza that was overpriced and bland . I got 3 roast beef subs . The bread was semi fresh . There was hardly anything on them ! Barely a very thinly sliced piece of roast beef , a tiny piece of tomato , a little piece of cheese . Omg talk about where's the beef ! The steak and cheese sub was not even grilled it was like boiled or microwaved. This place needs to step it up. We literally threw out the chicken bomb sub along with the steak and cheese. We chose instead to share a small cheeze pizza that we bought for our children. Thank god they are 5 year old girls and were not hungry. Hopefully this place makes some serious changes. Ugh! Due to visiting on vacay and not realizing every decent establishment would be stacked up with waiting for hours, we found ourselves here. With no line, it's not surprising. The shop was lacking air conditioning in July so a pleasant dining atmosphere was not available. The food was mediocre at best. The burgers were cooked but still had a raw-frozen taste you couldn't quite identify. The French fries were the best part of the meal and they were not homemade so that isn't saying much. The cost was outrageous for bad food. We would have done better at the local minute market. The staff was not friendly especially the redhead man in charge .
