While out at the Ranch for Thanksgiving- we were turkey "leftovered" out. We were standing around the fire the night before and someone said "biscuits and gravy"....mmmm.... where could we get some of that in the morning? Everyone agreed that Hometown Café was just the place to go to subside that hankering for some soft fluffy biscuits. We all agreed to meet up at Hometown at around 7:30 (a little early for this city girl) but very much worth it for both the food and local color. Walking in to this cozy country café locals greeted each other with friendly waves, drinking that third cup of coffee before church. I saw Hair higher than you thought possible, perfectly coiffed blow-outs and neatly ironed Wrangers. You heard the sizzling of bacon hitting the frying pan and the smell of French toast baking in the pan. Of course I had the chicken fried steak with a side of biscuits- a meal I was told- that would stay with me for the rest of the day. We all sighed in satisfaction. The bill for two was about $14 with tip and there was service with a smile. So if you are ever in Corning- mosey on over to Hometown and as my friend Stacey says "Get your fat kid on". read more

It was a rainy day in Corning and breakfast sounded like a good plan so we headed over to the Hometown Cafe. Walked in the front door and the sign said to seat yourself, so we did. Waitress came over promptly with menus and took our drink order. Ambiance was cafe old West with signs and stuff on the walls. Restroom was unisex Cowboys and cowgirls. It passed inspection. Ordered the Chicken fried steak and eggs and the Grilled cheese BLT with tater tots. Cup of fruit. CFS hit the spot, hash browns done right, tasty gravy. The grilled Cheese BLT on sourdough was a winner. Tater tots plump and cooked just right. Fruit cup not so much. Next time a little more variety and fresh would earn that extra star. Advised the staff and they agreed. Cafe filled up on Sunday morning. Just right portions at a reasonable price. I'm a fan. read more

We just love McBrayer's, good food and great service. The only request I have is please go back to grilling the home fries with peppers and onions. The deep fried home fries are like a sad french fry. Thank goodness we have this restaurant, there's not a lot of choices for food in Corning. read more

Coming up from Texas, the famous southern hospitality was definitely present in this mom & pop cafe. The waitresses made us feel welcome and not like outsiders. Very cordial and playful staff. I recommend Bonnie's favorite (French toast with cream cheese filling) and the Supreme Beef Dip. The macaroni salad is freshly made and all was delicious for a great price at that! read more

Awesomeness on a plate!!! Kind of off the Hwy, but a hidden gem!!! Easy parking and friendly staff. The food was just absolutely fantastic! The pancakes/hot cakes had this 'fried/buttery/crispiness' to it. Slathered in butter and syrup and it's even better! The sausages and hash browns were awesome too. But, even before that, the coffee was great and the friendly servers were attentive to filling your cup. A great thing to have after having an exhausting weekend up in Cottonwood. Our group stopped by McBrayer's Hometown Cafe on our way to Klamath Falls. This had to be the best breakfast around, and the staff is so friendly, and courteous! It is a small dining room, but they fit our group of 8, and served us in record time, the pancakes are fluffy and delicious, and if they offer pork chops and eggs, order them, you won't be sorry! read more

What a beautiful way to begin our July 4th morning on the road. Tons of veggies in my sr. 2egg omelet were lightly sauteed and fresh! Tasted sooo good. This is just what it says: at Hometown Café. The food is exactly what you would expect, good old fashion hometown cooking. One of us had breakfast for lunch, with the biscuit size of my foot! The other one had a BLT, and the bacon was piled Fickley inside. Delicious! The prices are modest and atmosphere his hometown. It looked like we were the only out of town or's in there, and it was nearly full at 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon. I guess it's a little over a mile off of interstate five to the center of this cute little town. The café is right next to the railroad tracks and the walls are adorned with pictures from the 20s 30s and 40s of what this town would like back then. The name of the town is Corning. read more

I hate to diss an eatery but my experience yesterday was bad. First of all,the service was great and the server very friendly and accommodating. The coffee cup was kept filled and hot.I was craving a Reuben sandwich. The description was dark rye, Swiss cheese, pastrami, and sauerkraut. Thousand Island dressing for dipping. I requested whole wheat bread which I got. The pastrami was tender and very good. That is where the good stopped. I had to ask for the thousand island, then I searched and found very small thin slice of melted Swiss cheese. There was no sauerkraut at all. At this point I decided to just eat it rather than sending it back. This new restaurant was recommended to me by locals, me being from out of town. It was not busy. I'm hoping this was just a bad day, new cook, or whatever. However, I'm afraid I won't be back. read more

The BURGERS! I had the swiss mushroom, husband had the bbq sauce and bacon. We both loved them! Huge, cooked to order, came with yummy fris. Friendly staff. Locally owned and local employees. Can get busy on weekend mornings if children's sports are having a big day. Oh and the 'out dated country decor' mentioned by another reviewer.. yes it really is old fashioned country decor, thus it fits perfectly with the old fashioned country people who frequent there the most. So Samantha R is stupid, my girl and I ate here this morning and it was great. The food was as we ordered it and everything tasted great. The wait staff was good and the place was packed. Plus, some of the officers from the police department were there and in my book, find where the cops eat and you've found a good spot. Good food. Cute decorations. A bit rough needs to fine tune the food. My french toast was ok but had a slightly greasy bacon flavor & was hard. Hubby's pancake was a cute flower shape but was a little doughy and under cooked, and the egg was overcooked. His hashbrowns were the little rectangles you can get from the freezer of the grocery store. The staff was friendly & gave good service. However the very loud personal discussion between staff had an inappropriate content for a working environment. Overall ok, but can get better for about two dollars more a few miles south. read more

I really hate to leave poor reviews, but the yelp rating definitely led us astray on this one! The food was OK... nothing more. The service was TERRIBLE! We went for breakfast, and yes i do LOVE my coffee in the morning...well, after wating about 5 minutes after being seated, we were brought our drinks....my coffee was refilled ONCE mind you during the entire time we were there. I had to ask for my refill and the waitress answered sure, i will be back in a few minutes...that was the last fillup i got. It definitely was NOT busy enough to have as poor of service as it did, smiling at people does not constitute service. We wont be back :( read more
