Kane County Animal Control - WHY CAN WE NOT PICK UP OUR DOG?! The website can be updated with his information but we can't get our dog?!?!

Kane County Animal Control

(3 reviews)

I can totally see why Kane County Animal Control has an adoption rating of 1 STAR out of 5 STAR…read morerating! The staff, especially the disrespectful young woman who does the approval "interviews" was incredibly rude to me. I am a senior citizen in a wheelchair and have been owned by cats for 45 years! I had recently had my dear little 14 year old emotional support animal (I hate "animal" being used, as they are FAMILY to me) cross the Rainbow Bridge on October 5, 2026 and had been in contact with the Kane County Animal Control facility almost daily just three days later. They were completely aware of this because I was crying half the time I spoke with them. I had never been treated with such disrespect and was actually told if I didn't like it, I could just "wheel myself out the door!" PLEASE ADOPT FROM ANDERSON'S SHELTER IN SOUTH ELGIN, ILLINOIS if you are looking to adopt a cat or a dog! They actually feel for both you and their darling cats and dogs! I should have gone back there when I adopted, as that is where my precious departed baby fur ball came from in 2013. I repeat: DO NOT GIVE KANE COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL THE TIME OF DAY! And for God's sake, do not donate money to them. They only had 4 cats there and we all know there are many more than that who need a loving home and for me, it works both ways! The facility only had eight enclosures for cats but they still should have been full! I wanted to go give some love and affection to the dogs there too, but was not "allowed" unless I was going to adopt. How cruel! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY DOG OR CAT THERE EITHER! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY RECOMMEND ANDERSON'S SHELTER IN SOUTH ELGIN ILLINOIS INSTEAD! If I had no need for an ESA, I would have been able to grieve the loss of my little girl longer and I did try. It's impossible for me and I'm STILL grieving her and will be forever! I did rescue a darling from KCAC and renamed her immediately! She had a ridiculous name! Better than a number, though. She loves everybody! And she is so affectionate and interested in EVERYTHING as our kitty cats usually are! One other thing: KCAC tried to force me to sign paperwork with her medical records before letting me read it! THIS IS SHADY AS ALL GET OUT! I had to INSIST on reading the information first! And was threatened again to be denied the adoption AGAIN! I might have just left but the 20 month old little girl had already stolen my heart and as soon as we met, we knew we were a match! AGAIN! DO NOT INTERACT WITH KANE COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADOPTION UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! DO NOT EVEN TAKE A RESCUE THERE UNLESS IT'S AN INJURED WILD ANIMAL. I'M HESITANT TO EVEN SUGGEST THAT! Horrible place, horrendous staff and the most rude and disrespectful people I've ever met when it comes to adopting! EVER!

Our precious dog Mochi got out Thursday evening through a hole in our fence. My husband and I…read moresearched our neighborhood up and down and were told that he was picked up by Kane County Animal Control. We appreciate that he is in good hands. My husband and I drove from Algonquin to Geneva at 8:30 AM on Friday to pick him up and we were informed that they are closed for Good Friday. Good Friday is not a recognized federal holiday. My poor baby can't come home now until MONDAY! No one was willing to help worried sick dog parents be reunited with their boy. I'm heartbroken to need to wait 4 more days to get my boy due to the lack of concern or understanding from Kane County Animal Control. He is in a kennel for Easter!!! This shows a lack of caring from people who supposedly care for animals. I will be there first thing Monday to get my precious boy from these uncaring individuals. Mochi is a shelter dog!!! He is training to be a therapy dog!!!! He doesn't need to be traumatized by being in a kennel all weekend long when his parents came to get him!!!!!!! Update: They are in the office and updating their website with a false name - 36 minutes ago. But not allowing for us to pick up Mochi.

I don't know how it happened, but it did…read more I lost my beloved Gordon almost 5 years ago. When I moved to Chicago in 2018 I immediately put in applications for the English Bulldog rescues. I knew it would be a long process, I didn't expect it to be impossible. One of them denied my application because of their income guidelines that evidently only Jay-Z could qualify for, but ONLY if Beyoncé co-signs the deal. When I was really really ready to have a dog in my life early last year, I applied to foster with another local bully rescue. We had a great phone interview, they claimed to be "impressed" with me, but they don't allow people in high-rises to foster. Some of the dogs don't like elevators. Why we went through that whole process when they could see my address, I don't know. I started researching breeders. Another undertaking that would likely take me years to find a good one and wait for the litter. It wasn't part of my regular routine at all, but I decided to go on pet finder one day and I saw this meatball at a rescue, recently listed. I applied right away. When I didn't get a confirmation e-mail that they received it, I called the next day. I was told that they'd rejected me because this love bug needs a family. Vicki didn't seem insulted when I told her that I know she knows what's best for her animals, but to please reconsider. I didn't expect to hear back. 20 minutes later i had a date to meet the guy the next day. And he's a dreamboat, so I was ready to kidnap him anyway but his two care takers decided we'd be a good fit. I wasn't the first applicant, or the only good one, either, I was told afterwards. Sorry everyone else! His name is Norman. He's about 3 years old. His limited history made it clear that his last "home" wasn't ideal. He was dumped at a dog pound, was found by someone connected to this rescue, and they bailed him out. My intuition tells me that he wasn't anyone's pet. He was likely used for breeding (he was neutered just before I got to take him home.) He couldn't get enough affection, attention, or enough to eat. He loves any soft surfaces and when he got his own bed, he looked like he won the lottery. It's been just over two months and this guy has come so far and has made me so proud of him. He's confident enough to not run over for attention just because I look at him. He leaves food in his bowl! He's learned how to play with his toys, people, and he's recently gotten playful with his friends from the dog run at my building. He was always a sweet boy from the moment we met, but he's learning to be a dog, it seems. He still uses me for a napkin whenever he wants, which is right on track. Dogs are the best. This guy had no reason to like anyone, but he can't help himself. He's a people person. He is a notorious party crasher if we happen to be walking by one in one of the lobby areas. He had no reason to trust me, but he does. And that brings me more joy than I can possibly express. I thank the hard rescue workers for what they do every day. For dogs like mine, and for the ones who don't get the lives they deserve. Thank you. Thank you. to trust me

The staff member who helped me was very compassionate, kind, and knowledgeable. Everyone at the shelter is kind, compassionate, and truly dedicated to making sure both pets and people are happy. A very special thank you to Dee, who was an absolute blessing. She was so patient, helpful, and understanding...answering every question I had with such care. She went above and beyond by making arrangements with the vet for my two kittens, and I never once felt rushed or overlooked. I adopted two beautiful kittens, and knowing they came from a place filled with so much love and support gives me such peace of mind. It is very clear that everyone at this shelter is passionate about helping animals find safe, happy homes, and about supporting families after adoption as well. I am so grateful for all the services they provide and for the genuine kindness of the staff. Thank you, Dee, Dr. Kristen and thank you DuPage County Animal Shelter, for helping me with my two precious "kids" and for the care you continue to give.

I can't believe I hadn't reviewed Adopt previously. My dear sweet Calliecakes is from this shelter,…read moreso I am forever grateful that they rescued her. My parents saw her at the shelter back in 2012 and texted me her photo (because they knew I wanted a cat), and I was like "yes absolutely I want her I will come get her." And the rest is history -- it's been 11 great years with my bestie (and hopefully many more). And then a year later, almost to the day, my parents were like "hey let's go to Adopt" the day after Thanksgiving and they ended up getting a cat (their second) for themselves. I haven't been back to the shelter since 2013 when I went with them when they decided to get their cat, but at that time the shelter was super nice and they had several rooms where cats could roam free. It was a nice, no-stress situation to be able to sit on a sofa or on the floor and have the cats come check you out. So many snuggles. And I follow them on Instagram and they continue to do great work and care deeply for the animals they rescue. Definitely check them out if you are looking for a new best friend! And now enjoy the cat photo spam/cat tax :)
