I don't think I've ever thought this about a restaurant, particularly one so highly regarded - everything was -way- overly flavored. Really disappointing, this place had been near the top of my list to try for 2 years! Started out poorly, as we waited 7 minutes in the doorway on a Sunday evening before anyone even spoke to us. Meanwhile, at least 5 different staff members had whizzed by us at least twice each. Finally, the greeter said he'd be back soon, and we were finally able to put our names in after over 10 minutes of standing in the doorway. The flavors were far too pungent and overpowering. The labneh was so sour, our mouths puckered. The dates were so sweet, I could feel it in my gums. The apricot sour cocktail was not sour, but overly sweet. The cheesecake had a funky texture, was a little too sweet, but mostly - kind of salty? None of the ingredients listed mentioned anything salty. The pita was undercooked and chewy inside. The only good dishes we had were the sweet corn soft serve, and the pork. Speaking of which - when we ordered, our server said he thought the pork cut tonight was pork shoulder, but he wasn't sure. The table behind us got the pork before us, and the woman that brought theirs went into depth about what type of pork (leg) it was, down to descriptions of the veggies and sauce. When the same runner brought the pork to us, she dropped it off without a single comment about what it was. Really wanted to love this place and return regularly to support a local establishment, but they really let us down all around :( read more

Homer is located on the strip of popular restaurants in Beacon Hill that doesn't take reservations for groups smaller than 6. I went with a friend around 6:30 PM on a weekday and there was a 25-ish minute wait. It's unfortunately going to be all street parking in the area, but you'll likely find a spot within a 5 minute walk. Their menu is Mediterranean inspired and very seasonal; so be warned, if there's a specific dish that caught your eye, it might not be available when you actually dine in. Value wise, it is expensive and the portions are not very big. I believe they recommend ~2 spreads, small dishes, and larger plates each for a party of two. Pita and sourdough isn't complimentary either, so you're definitely looking at a bill of $50+ per person and that's being quite conservative. Here's the good news though: the food is really stellar. I tried a whole range of items and have to say every spread I tried (Spring Allium Pistachio, Lamb Ragu on Tahini, and Whipped Garlic) was INCREDIBLE. Pita is fantastic as well. Both the Lamb Kebab and Roast Pork I tried were perfectly cooked and the unique flavor pairings for each dish are a home run every time. Definitely a meal to remember and a great option for special occasions. Last note, I actually didn't like the soft serve... The texture was fairly average and the strawberry was very artificial tasting. It was a shame because the chamomile, creme fresh option was super interesting, great balance between creamy and herbal. Honestly, I might just walk down the street to their sister restaurant of Milk Drunk for more consistency on dessert (plus they have chocolate shell and who can say no to that). read more

This place is perfect for a date time for foodies! We enjoyed trying all their dishes and the drinks were not too overbearing. I'm jealous my boyfriend always picks the prettiest drinks compared to me! The service was amazing. Black cod was super tender. The whipped garlic was to die for. It was so addicting. The lamb was tender, soft, and didn't taste gamey at all. The duck was decently good. read more

They don't take reservations so get their early and wait in line outside. Once it's 5pm, the greeter will take one party at a time (leaving everyone else waiting in line) and get them settled before returning to get the next party--making for a long process. The person greeting was pleasant enough but from the get-go there's a slight feeling that they're doing us a favor by allowing entry. The drinks on the menu are made in batches so don't ask for any substitutions. The kitchen can only accommodate so much so your entire order must be made at one time and no late game decisions about adding or deleting anything are possible. Again, we understand and yet it feels restrictive. That said, the three-dips as a starter (with extra pita) is a must-order item. The dates are delish as well. We could have done without the shaved vegetable dish. The roast chicken was scrumptious, but the rutabaga served with it was cold and the piece of pita bread it was sitting on was an odd choice. Anyway, we enjoyed ourselves but see no need to return. read more

My experience at Homer can be described in a few words: fun, big portions, delicious. They're walk-in only, but we only had to wait about 20 minutes before we got the call to come back. We just walked around the neighborhood and checked out Milk Drunk (who supplies Homer with soft serve). We sat on the counter by the open-face kitchen, which is my favorite part of any restaurant, because I can literally see chefs curating the dishes that we eat. The Set of Top Three Spreads is excellent, as it comes with hummus, labneh and roasted eggplant. It also comes with the softest and warmest pita breads. My personal favorite was the roasted eggplant - I like that it had walnuts and dates to add some crunch and sweetness to the dip. The grilled beets and anchovies were delicious. I love beets, and I loved these beets in particular because they pair beets with kumquat and orange blossoms and hazelnuts. The texture, acidity, sweetness, savoryness -- all of it's there in this dish. I thought anchovies were great too, but the beets really knocked it out of the park. We got lamb ribs as part of our "larger plate" but unfortunately, it was a lot of fat and not a lot of meat which is why I'm giving this a 4 instead of a 5. I think we might have just gotten unlucky with the lamb, but I think they should do a better quality check because the lamb is a whopping $39. read more

Some of the best food I've had in Seattle! Every dish is so unique and all the components work so well together. The menu changes seasonally so I definitely want to come back and try other small plates. We started off with the pita and eggplant dip and they paired so well together. The pita is so soft and warm. The seasonal salads were all so fresh and refreshing. I really loved the grilled pork and sausage because they were so tender and also super flavorful. Loved the vibe of the restaurant, super lively and cozy. Do note that they are walk in only and they get busy really quick so make sure to come early! I also had their soft serve (roasted sweet corn and nectarine hibiscus) and the flavors surprisingly work really well together. Its very refreshing and the flavors are super deep. read more

Let's start with the atmosphere, it's a quaint space that that feels inviting and I immediately loved it as soon as I walked in and sat down. They have an open concept kitchen, so you can enjoy watching the team concoct your meal. We had an array of servers thought out the night, it's as though everyone just worked together. I enjoyed getting everyone's opinion on the dishes and there was always someone ready to get us more food or drinks. On to the main event, the fucking FOOD. This place is the tits, everything I ate was beyond. My eyes rolled back when I had their celeriac & pepita, I don't even know what that is, but I know it was mind boggling amazing. We got the lamb and chicken for the main dishes, and I'm forever changed. I can't imagine eating anything better than that damn kebab. Don't even get me started on the beets. They tasted charred, but cooked perfectly, don't know how that was done and they wouldn't tell me. Their menu changes seasonally, so you can get to enjoy new dishes regularly. They don't take small table reservations, so get there the night before, pitch a tent and wait for this place. 100/10. read more

This place is pretty small, and crowded so it can be very loud. But the food is absolutely amazing. They make vegetables taste very good, and everything felt so light and well balanced. The flavors seem clean but somewhat complex. I enjoyed their use of herbs and nuts to make all the dishes interesting. Would come back, the food is really great. read more

Some of the best in seattle! No reservations. We came by around 7pm on a Sunday and no wait. We had options of where we could sit and we sat directly at bar. We ordered: -set of 3 dips $18 -3 extra pita $2/ea -lettuce $13 -wood fired squash $16 -anchovie $9 -sausage $18 Definitely too heavy on the carbs. Would have been nice if staff gave a nudge, since it was two of us, but again, it was my own fault. Their pita is delicious so it hits you mid-way through the meal. Ended up leaving 2-2.5 pieces. I recommend someone eating a max of two pitas haha. Flavors and texture are always great at Homer. Street parking only. read more

Walked-in for a party of three Monday at 6PM and were seated 45 minutes after. Parking is a bit difficult to find. We found street parking within the residential area behind Homer. We ordered: Set of Top Three Spreads + Grilled Sourdough - The carrot & walnut dip w/ jalapeño oil & pomegranate was our favorite dip amongst the three. Followed by the hummus w/ chickpeas & cumin-- both dips being smooth and sweet. The labneh w/ dried tomatoes & mint tasted more tangy. Three slices of pita bread were given w/ the dips, but we additionally ordered grilled sourdough to scrape of the rest of the leftover dips. Wood Roasted Black Cod w/ sunchokes, marinated maitakes & black garlic chermoula - Our favorite dish of the evening and something everyone should try. The black cod was so tender and paired so beautifully w/ the marinated maitakes. Charred Beets w/ fresh cheese, kum-quat, orange blossom & hazelnut dukkah - Beets in general are okay... but THESE beets. These beets are yummy. The orange blossom was a great addition to the palate. Roasted Chicken w/ a chili-fruit paste - Generous in size and sauce. The chicken had a nice charr underneath. We were surprised to see it all layered onto a pita bread. Overall atmosphere is very lively. We very much left happy, healthy, and full. Will be coming back soon enough! read more

Crazy that this was one of my most anticipated places to try since moving here. Everything was, simply put, a harissa bomb. The hummus didn't taste good, the mushrooms were delicious but the skewer they came with was 80% of the dish, the chicken dish legit was gummy and dry and wasn't seasoned at all save for the glob of very sweet pomegranate jam on top. Soggy pita at the bottom too. We ordered the "grilled" sourdough with anchovies but all I tasted was burnt bread. It's telling when we had to pair everything with the whipped garlic to make it taste better. I will say service was lovely and our bartender was on top of it. Drinks were ok and I dunno what the deal is with adding cardamom to everything but the soft serve wasn't for us either. Happy to see a unique spot flourish but it was a miss for our taste buds unfortunately. read more

I thought I would be more impressed having heard so much about this place. For one you can't make a reservation and can't be seated until your whole party is there. I can understand this since it's a small place. Their share plates are pretty tiny. Cocktails were a delight. For food, we had the cauliflower and lamb ragú which I enjoyed. The beets, squash and dates - not so much a fan of. The menu does change so I wouldn't mind returning in a few months. read more

Hands down some of the best food I've had, ever. Each of the dishes were so unique and delicious in their own way. We got a seat at the chef's counter and we loved watching them cook. It was even more interesting since they don't use a traditional stove but rather an open flame. They don't take reservations for small groups so you're best try is to come early. We arrived around 5pm on a weekday and were seated right away but by 6, there was a line waiting out the door. There menu is also constantly rotating with fresh ingredients so this is definitely a fun place to revisit. We started with fresh pita and dip. The carrot and walnut dip was surprisingly good and the taste was unique, almost a bit of a curry flavor. The pomegranate seeds on top added a nice juiciness and sweetness. The pita's came fresh from the pizza oven and were pillowy soft inside. For a small plate, we shared the sausage and beans. The sausage not was too oily, cumin beans added a nice complement together with the labneh. For the large plate, we chose the duck. It was cooked so tenderly and the skin added a nice fat. The sweet sauce, veggies, and hazelnut yogurt was amazing and I made sure to get some in every bite. Our stomachs were filled to the brim after this and happily satisfied. The service was very friendly as well and overall vibe of the restaurant was lively. Can't wait to some back and try this place again! read more

I came with a large group so enjoyed the course meal at Homer and it was very delicious. The portions were big and because it was a 4-course meal, I was very stuffed by the end of my dinner. I loved the various hummus and spreads with the pita bread -- the whipped garlic was very flavorful and smooth. The second course with small dishes was surprising in a good way. I didn't expect the strong, smoky flavor profiles from the vegetables. The grilled dates with pistachio oil were one of my favorites. The mains included roasted chicken and grilled pork, which both were perfectly cooked. The pork dish had pear which looked very similar to each other and the pear made the pork a bit cold. I'd come again but would want to come with a smaller group to select my own dishes. Overall, a great dining experience! read more

Homer crushes it, AGAIN. I have visited Homer twice-both without reservations and just got blessed by the cuisine gods and got a table. This past week, we waited a 45 minutes for a table-really close to what the hostess quoted us for. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, flavors, dietary restrictions and recommendations. We let them order for us for 3 people and left NO CRUMBS. Homer is that restaurant-hits every mark. Friendly, delicious, incredible ambiance, great drinks, vegetarian options, zero proof options-food for the curious palate with staple flavors and dishes. Hands down, this is our favorite restaurant, and we love leaving it to the gods for a table. Thanks again for a memorable experience, Homer! Ps-get the fig leaf vanilla sundae... read more

Just curious... do you want to have the best mediterranean food you've ever had... in your LIFE? Look no further... Homer is THE REAL DEAL! This place has quickly become one of my all-time favorite restaurants, and for good reason: the quality, the ambiance, the service, the consistency--it's all top-tier. What makes Homer exceptional? The ingredients are insanely fresh, and it shows in every bite. Pair that with expertly smoked dishes and ripe, flavorful produce, and you've got pure magic happening on your palate. Every dish is cooked over a wood fire, which adds incredible depth and warmth to the food. Even the grapes are smoked to perfection--yes, grapes--and they're little flavor bombs that'll have you chasing that next bite. If you're planning to check it out, here are a few pro tips: They mostly take walk-ins (unless you've got a large party), so arrive right when they open or be ready to wait about an hour. (There are a couple bars next door to help you pass the time.) Note: they won't seat you until your entire party is present. You'll order everything (except dessert) at once. It might feel like a lot, but just go with a bunch of small plates to share. It's the best way to experience their insanely harmonious menu. Don't miss the wallpaper. Seriously. It's fantastic. Let your server pair your food with wine. They know what they're doing, and it'll elevate the whole experience. read more

This was my second time at Homer and both times i've been blown away. What I love about this restaurant is that I always get to try new ingredients that i've never heard of or tasted before, and it's always prepared in the most unique and tasteful way. Their menu always changes so it's always worth coming back! They don't take reservations so like other reviewers mentioned, come early! Especially on weekends the wait times can be pretty long, and it's a relatively smaller establishment so I wouldn't recommend large parties. My boyfriend and I started with the Set of Top Three Spreads ($18) which came with three pieces of fresh pita, hummus, carrot and walnut dip, and labneh w/ dried tomatoes and mint. Every dip was so flavorful and this is really good starter if you're indecisive. We ended up ordering an extra pita ($2) to finish the spreads. For the small dish we got the Wood Fired Winter Squash w/ Seeded Salsa Macha, Dates, Cilantro & Rose ($16) and the large plate we got the Wood Roasted Black Cod w/ Sunchokes ($29). I genuinely don't understand how the chefs at Homer prepare vegetables in such an amazing way but I always look forward to their small plates for this reason. The cod was also perfectly tender on the inside and crispy on the outside and paired so well with the sauce underneath it. I can't even describe the food to do it justice but it's just something you need to try! Definitely add Homer to your Seattle must eats! read more

What a fantastic place to dine in! Fancy and the food is pure heaven! BUT: is the wait worth it? A group of 5 girls had the plan to go and eat out on a Saturday. We arrived around 6pm and had to join the waitlist, because reservations are only accepted for groups bigger than 8/10. So we were able to finally get a table at 9pm!!! To be fair they told us that the wait will be long. My favorite: Roasted beets and the roasted chicken! Pure heaven! Because of the open kitchen they had to have windows open which you could feel because I thought it was cold. The food was definitely amazing and outstanding. But unfortunately I won't be coming back soon because of the long wait. I wish it was easier to get reservations! read more

Came here on Mother's Day for dinner and was surprised to find that the line wasn't that long 10 minutes before opening and we were able to get a table for 5. The place filled up fast though, so I wouldn't recommend trying to come by after opening. People were clearly coming by and being added to a waitlist afterwards. (I've also stopped by around 6:30pm on a weeknight and been told it would be a 45 to 75 min wait) Food overall was very good, but not quite the knock-out that I was expecting. We had the roasted dates with fish sauce caramel, which were tasty, but would be much better if enjoyed with more generous servings of some kind of carbohydrate. Honestly, if you're not ordering a side to go with this dish, I think it would be also impossible to enjoy given how sweet and salty it is. We did order pita bread for $2 and crispy basmati rice cake for $6. The latter felt quite expensive for what it was. We enjoyed the lamb with muhammara. The charred spring peas with labneh and basil was fine, but not the knock-out I was expecting from how the waitress raved about it. The burnt cabbage with stinging nettles and pickled trumpet mushrooms was similarly good, but again, nothing to write home about. Finally, we ended with a soft serve sundae with rhubarb syrup, maraschino cherry, and cardamom meringue. We opted for the flavor of ice cream to be a swirl of their current seasonals. Nothing that we ate was bad, and nothing made me feel like I need to return. The bathroom was clean. Service was friendly. The restaurant is definitely loud, as there is nothing to absorb sound; just lots of woods and open space. read more

AMAZING FOOD!! I came here with a friend who highly recommended this place. Service was fast, friendly and the food as absolutely delicious. The ingredients and flavours they used were fresh and interesting, and overall good price for the all the food. The hummus was amazing, especially the pita. They make it fresh in front of you and it's fluffy. The dates were also outstanding to me, what a creative flavour concept. Also got the lamb which was so good, and finished with two desserts. The soft serve had an interesting smoky flavour profile. They change up their menu frequently, 100% will revisit. read more

The food is so good here. We got several small plates - all vegetarian - and we were delighted with how creative all the flavors were. An odyssey... we took a chance on our way through Seattle hoping we could get a table. I think being on the early side of the dinner rush helped, 5:45pm, we put our names in and they said about thirty min. We ducked into the wine bar next door, highly recommend that as well. The wait only was about 20 min, so we had to knock back our glasses. We had the grazed lamb, whipped garlic, humus and the buttermilk greens. Everything was amazing. The grazed lamb was so balanced and unctuous. The lettuces were crispy and fresh. The service was great and fast. The atmosphere is cozy, I would not recommend groups. We recently had a reception of 25 people, catered by Homer and could not be more pleased with the results. With a diverse party of vegetarians to big carnivores and locals, out of state and out of country guests, everyone was impressed with the food. Guests going for seconds, thirds and I swear a few even went for more, so I know they weren't just being polite. There was ample enough portions to accommodate everyone's appetite for this glorious food. From working with Caroline on the menu and logistics to the final product being received it was a true delight. We truly cannot say enough. Got there about 5:30pm on Wednesday and got seated right away at the counter/bar. Great food and friendly quick service. There were so many unique options so it was hard to choose. We got the nettle pistachio pita bread, asparagus and apricot, Wahl glazed lamb with 2 cocktails m the cocktails were a perfect match with the food. You do have to buy additional pita bread after the one piece that comes with the pita bread item. The servings are small so you will need to get multiple items to get full. We filled up on more delicious fresh pita bread. The space is cute and you can see them cooking on the grill and on the oven. That is fun to watch. I will definitely return again. I've had my share of bangin' Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food and perhaps my taste buds are a bit biased from having had traditional-style fare, but I felt like Homer is basically a gentrified take on Mediterranean food--kinda like the infamous Lucky Lee's for Chinese food. In the two times that I've been here, they've been very good about the seating and usually have availability sooner than suggested. I highly recommend the tabletop experience (though the side with the oven isn't for the claustrophobic). Given the setting and portions, I'd say sharing plates with 1-2 other people max would be optimal for the best experience since it's a more small group-friendly environment. This review is based on my most recent visit in May 2023. The Shaved Kohlrabi & Pear seems to be a staple on their menu as I've ordered it twice but definitely a must if you want something light and refreshing to balance any meat dishes. I didn't love the roasted chicken with chili-fruit paste, which I really wanted to like but the smell of the paste was strong and became a bit nauseating to have the smell lingering for a while. Lamb tartare was okay, but something that could get some folks to build up to if they already don't like lamb. There's no gamey taste as if it was cooked, so this could be exciting for those who want to experiment with eating raw lamb. The hummus & tzatziki dip were standouts for me but the pita bread wasn't my favorite--it felt and tasted a little dull than what I prefer. We also had their seasonal Peanut Butter & Strawberry Rhubarb soft serve to finish off the night and I am a sucker for ice cream and love anything with rhubarb but this fell short for me--the milky taste was overpowering for me. Having dined here twice now, I REALLY want to love this place so much because they have so much potential, but it has just missed the mark for me. read more

The food was exceptional. Truly the best meal that I've eaten in years. I strongly recommend the trio of dips with pita bread. So delicious. Our entrees were also delicious. The soft serve should be advertised as ice milk, as there is very little fat content and the mouthfeel was disappointing as a result. Our only real problem was the aggressive unfriendliness of the hostess. When we arrived at the restaurant, there was a sign outside the door instructing diners to wait there to be seated. We stood there and the hostess came out and in what felt like an irritated tone said, "Can I help you?" I replied that the sign had said to wait there to be seated. She then said, "Do you want a table then?" I confirmed that we did. She then led us in and seated us. We almost left at that point because we had been so put off, but the food was worth the initial discomfort. read more

My niece introduced us to this amazing restaurant. We had a reservation for 6 which seemed to be the best way to go as parties of 6 and over have to make a reservation. Anything less and you can't. We also had to go off of a Prix Fixe menu. Which made it easy cuz we didn't have to decide between the phenomenal food choices. If you do this, prepare to have a gastronomical experience of your life. There at least 9 dishes. We had plenty left over. There was too much to describe but a few highlights were all the dips...labneh, some lemony dip, and everyone loved the pistachio dip. The roasted cauliflower smothered in some lemony aoili sauce was the BEST. I could have eaten an entire plate by myself. A few other veggie dishes came through all of which were tasty. We had this amazingly crisp and tasty grilled fatty pork, which was basically the best bacon ever. By this time I was so full I could eat one square inch. The whole fileted Ling Cod was a sight to see and sooo delicious. However, by this time I was in a food coma (the kind where you can still sit up and eat but everything else is numb). Everything was expertly seasoned. There was definitely dishes made for gluten free, and vegan diets. Homer was a nice surprise. A friend and I went there expecting to order several dishes and pig out, and that's exactly what we did. Forgive me for not remembering the name of a couple of the dishes but at least I have photos! :) Will keep it short and simple: - The hummus, pita, and whipped garlic was incredible. The hummus/pita was probably the best I had in all of Seattle. - The salad- although my friend enjoyed it, it was my least favorite. - The sausage (or meatballs) were flavorful and juicy. - The grilled pork was delicious and tenderized. The food, vibe and service are all excellent. I love the open kitchen and the communal feel of the restaurant. The moment I opened the front door and stepped inside, the smell of burning wood and charred meat rushed towards me. After we got seated by the counter, the sound of people talking, laughing and eating surrounded us. The food was I highly recommend any dip with their homemade pita. And yes, get an extra pita. Sardine with Harissa Butter and Grilled Sourdough Bread is a great introduction to sardine, and for someone who's not into overly fishy fish. It's salty and mildly fishy, and pairs well with the spicy butter and grilled bread. My favorite of the meal was the sunchoke. So many textures and flavors from ingredients such as sunflower seeds, tiny cubes of pickled celery, thinly sliced persimmon, dill... The experience of having one bite with all the ingredients cannot be adequately described by words, so you have come to try it yourself. read more
