I live in Atlanta, but was visiting the Charleston area on vacation. I always visit Homegoods stores whenever I travel, so thought I'd check this one out. I went in and saw a table I liked for my husbands man cave. I didn't buy it, but took a picture to show my husband later. My husband liked it, and called & placed it on hold. This is where is goes downhill.
We drive back to the store for my husband to see it before buying. My husband noticed that the piece was damaged (wood torn off of the live edge). I request to see a manager to discuss the damage. I finally get someone by the name of THOMAS and ask him to look at the item with me. He immediately said "is your name Tim, as I'm holding this item for Tim"...in a very rude fashion !(note: he sees that I'm a woman). I respond that Tim is my husband and he's right here.
THOMAS immediately argues with us that "the table came out of the box this way", and "don't you know that this table came from out of this country"...in a VERY RUDE fashion. Other customers overheard how we were being treated and came over to agree that the table was absolutely damaged (out of the box, or not). THOMAS dismisses their comments and says "I'm tired of people always wanting discounts....I'll give you $10 off of the $399 item..that's it!". Then THOMAS further humiliates us and says "so, $399 minus $10 is $389". I said "I can absolutely subtract". At that point my husband was disgusted & went to the front of the store to ask for the store manager.....SIMONE shows up. SIMONE initially says "I know there are two sides to the story, and I can't overstep my boundaries and do anything about the table". As soon as we said we were going to contact Corporate about our experience, and we didn't want the table, she THEN said "well, I think I have jurisdiction to help you.....". Wow, couldn't believe it!!!!
The story goes much further, but I will spare all of the additional details. THOMAS was so rude to us, and treated us like 2nd class citizens. So much so that HG customers were profusely apologizing for his actions towards us (they didn't know us, or the HG manager, but felt bad regarding our treatment). I hope he gets some major customer service training & stays alway from customers....he's highly inappropriate!! read more
