I've been to the majority of garden centers/ nurseries in the Charleston area. There's some that are larger and some that have lower prices, but the service and knowledge at Abide A While can't be matched. When I first moved to Mount Pleasant 5 years ago, Abide A While was the first nursery that I went to. As soon as I walked in the annual section, I was met with the warmest smile by an older lady that instantly made me feel at home. I forgot her name, but after talking for a while she had mentioned she was with the company for about 40 years! Being as happy as she was with the same company for that long is definitely is a statement in itself! Unfortunately she retired not too long ago, but now I've met so many other friendly and knowledgeable people at Abide A While. Bruce and J.D.(?) are my go-tos. As for the layout, I like it a lot. Pretty much all the annuals are to the right. Houseplants are on the left, inside with the household items. (All of the household items are beautifully displayed and consist of great quality). Outside, towards the rear of the building are the perennials, trees, and some tropical plants. One of the most important things about Abide A While is every plant is labeled and the majority have full descriptions! If the description is not on the pot, it'll be on a nearby post or printed out on a card. There's nothing more that I hate than to have to do full research on the spot for a plant that catches my eye. So kudos to them for providing that information. I'll end with saying Abide A While is just beautiful, inside and out. I especially love going there after a stressful day. It's so serene, and even majestic in a way. If you haven't been there before, it's worth going for that reason alone. read more

Service is excellent. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Selection is vast and applicable to our environment here. I bought a beautiful meyer lemon tree. They told me how to take care of it and it's sprouting lemons!! Value: you get what you pay for. It's not cheap but the product is clearly top notch. read more

Abide Awhile maintains a wise selection of plants and greenery. it also has gift shop that contains decorator items, custom jewelry, wreaths and other related items. products are very upscale and make fine gifts. I have frequently satisfied my gifting requirements for Holidays and special Occasions. it is my " go to" location. Highly recommended. read more

Surprisingly impressed. I figured that since this was in MtPleasant, it'd be more expensive, but I was pleasantly surprised. The prices were very good. The staff was abundant and helpful and the selection was very very large. It was a nice mix of indoor, garden and landscaping flowers/plants. I've been coming to this shop for many years. It used to be such a fun place to go and the staff was so kind and the last few visits in recent months have been the complete opposite. Everyone working is so rude and unfriendly. They don't greet you, they don't say thank you and it just doesn't have that cozy neighborly feel like it used to! Even my eight-year-old noticed how cold the staff is ! Their products have done nothing but skyrocket in price as well! Today will be my last visit after the rudeness we experienced at checkout! I'd rather go to Home Depot and buy plants for a third of the price and you can get the organic soil on Amazon for half the price ! At least at Home Depot they are friendly and they smile and you don't feel like they are judging you! :) read more

It has jewelry, clothes, decorations, and maybe even furniture. The people were so nice. Everyone we spoke to was very helpful and nice. A beautiful garden center with a lot of plant options to choose from! It's a good time just walking around and browsing. The plants are healthy and the staff is friendly and eager to help. It can be a bit pricey in terms of the pots though My one issue is a lady who works at the help desk. While I appreciate any insight in my plant health and care, she was very rude, condescending, interrupted me and her coworker and I got a 10 minute lecture on how to properly water my plants. She put me in an irritable mood and I really hope to never meet her again. She needs to be talked to and work on people skills. read more

Had the opportunity to visit this nursery, that was suggested to me by people who live nearby. We just moved to Mount Pleasant and wanted to support local in order to support our plant addiction. This is a beautiful space with beautiful plants and fruit trees and vegetables. The staff were friendly and attentive and answered all the questions I had. A great local nursery that has a large assortment of plants for your home. Everything you want and need - annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, shrubs, trees and more. The covered greenhouses have so many beautiful blooming plants, it's fun checking it all out. Then the large outdoor area is spaced out with every kind of shrub and tree that grows well in the area. One of our favorite places to shop for good quality plants. Sadly, they no longer plant for you. When we first moved here we had them put in a birch and 2 Natchez Crepes and those trees have done superbly. Now we are readying a new home, and with that, a new landscape. We stopped in and selected a few varietals of camellias. We also had some confusion as to color of Redbuds, and Western vs Eastern. The gentleman that was working with us was able to clear up our questions and even pull pictures from the area, narrowing down the exact type of Redbud we are interested in. Yes, they are a bit pricier than some nurseries, but so worth it. read more

As I've only been a homeowner for a couple years now, I haven't had much reason to hang out in garden centers in the past. Because of that, I don't have much to compare it to besides Home Depot or Lowes. I have to say right after walking in, I realized that Abide-a-while offers so much more than I thought they did. Obviously they have plants, flowers, and all your planting needs like soil, pots, and plant food. They also have home decor, furniture, and the most beautiful glass terrariums you've ever seen. Besides the insane amounts of plants and planting needs, they biggest benefit they have is knowledgeable and caring staff. You can tell that they really know their stuff and even have an area outside offering tips for success. We were in over mothers day weekend and they guy helping us was kind enough to let us know that since it was so busy, they would have more selection the following week. We came back and purchased two beautiful hydrangeas that are now planted in the backyard and thriving. read more

As I was planning my trip to Charleston I asked a local group which garden centers to visit. Abide a while garden center was the number one suggestion and it just so happened that it was on the way to my brothers home. I was blown away by their selection of plants that are seemingly rare in Greenville, yet so plentiful and yet reasonably priced here. They had a tie constellation on display that is absolutely stunning. Of course it's not for sale but one can hope. They have a generous selection of Hoyas and even rare sansevieras. I definitely plan to visit again before journeying back home. So happy to have stumbled upon this gem and met all the wonderfully crazy plant people. read more

This place was recommended to me by a Charleston local and I loved it!! They have such a wide variety of decor, houseplants and outdoor plants. They even have some herbs. The plants appeared healthy and were very reasonably priced! They have HUGE pothos and philodendrons to decorate the walls. I wasn't planning on buying anything and came home with 2 plants and a flower pot anyway. They had these adorable sun and moon pots ($10) and I decided to get a 4" Philodendron "Jungle Boogie" ($20) and a 4" Hoya Crimson Princess ($17.99) Will definitely be back!! read more

This place literally has my heart. Every time I walk in here I want to buy something. They take such good care of the place and they have experts who know about each plant. The plants are grouped into their kinds such as all sun, part sun, shade, trees, and shrubs. It makes it easy as you walk around to pick out what you need. I needed some plants to help liven up my boring patio and my sister suggested Abide-A-While. I've never been to a garden center that sold clothing before, but that seems to be right at home in Mount Pleasant! We wandered around for a while and had a number of staff check on us, answering questions we had. I picked up about a half-dozen plants and met the cashier with the fastest fingers in the South. He had checked me out before I even got everything off the cart! Crazy. Great experience, beautiful plants and a wide variety available. Can't wait to return for more. read more

The service here is probably the worst I've ever had at a garden center. I've been trying to reach them for weeks, but they don't answer their phone. They promise to return a phone call if you leave a message, but they don't. And I am a customer who purchases from them. The women who work there are very unpleasant for the most part. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one is because of a gentleman who works in the outdoor area, who is knowledgeable and helpful. Of course, I could just go elsewhere. But it would be nice to be able to speak directly to them if you've already purchased from them. I held off giving this review until I gave them several chances. But I still am unable to get anybody to respond after 3 weeks. read more

Be forewarned about their boutique department. I purchased some Cat's pjs there for &159 and when I got home found out the Cats PJs site on the web sells the same thing for $129. Thirty dollars less! When I complained to the store manager, she shrugged and said, "that's what we do." I think other items in the boutique area are similarly overpriced. read more

I could seriously spend all day here. Their selection of plants is amazing and their aesthetic is beautiful. I'm particularly interested in houseplants, but they have a really wide selection of outdoor plants and trees, as well. Inside, there is a beautiful gift store filled with stationary, books, jewelry, local goods, candles, and more. I've bought several gift cards there that were quite a hit. I've also bought a few pots to do some transplanting in and they look great around my house. I'd say the only thing they're missing here is a little cafe or something...but that's just my personal pipe dream. read more

It is nice to have a local Nursery in Mount Pleasant and not far from my house. We went in looking for some fruit trees and some flowers to add to the blank slate in our back yard. They still had some lemon and lime trees in stock so the wife just had to have them. We also got some gardenias to add some color to the backyard. The sales team in the Nursery is great as they were extremely helpful and patient with us. They helped us choose the trees and flowers that met our needs and gave some great advice. Although they didn't have everything we were looking for due to the season they told us when to come back for the items we wanted. They have a good selection but are on the pricey side compared to Home Depot and Lowes. read more

This is one of my happy, get lost for a while, kind of places. The grounds are just fantastic to walk through. I can easily spend an hour just meandering. You'll find inspiration from their different unique plant pairings and arrangments. You'll see many chic decorating ideas. The staff is quite knowledgeable and always ready to help. We recently bought three large metal "hay rack" style planting bins from them and they explained the setup and loaded them up expertly in my car. As others have mentioned they are not cheap but you are paying for a well-informed employee and an aesthetically pleasing space. (All small businesses have expenses and you'd better believe operating in Mt. P is no exception.) So yes, it might hurt your wallet a tad but with the bigger picture in mind it always seems worth it. read more

Wish there were more than 5 stars! This is one of the best run businesses I have ever seen of any kind. Professional AND knowledgeable! The store is beautiful and the plants and flowers are very well taken care of and "fresh"! I have had the pleasure of having Sissy help me 3 different occasions and she is WONDERFUL! Sissy is so sweet, patient, attentive and knows her stuff! I could spend all day in AAW. I am new to gardening and the information I gathered while there has been soooo helpful! I have to mention that I drive from Ravenel just to get what I need! There is a certain store on James Island (that I won't mention the name) that is decent but does not have the friendliest staff. What a lovely place to find plants. Purchased perennials that are strong and well grown. Ready for planting! Purchased a lemon tree and an orange tree. They are perfect size for the front porch until they find a spot in the yard. Staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. You may pay a bit more than the big box store but the quality is with it. Abide-A-While is tucked into a space near where highways 526 and 17 intersect, across from the Walmart shopping center (I'm relatively new here, so landmarks are helpful to find this treasure). You'll walk through a lovely garden themed shop on the way to the exterior plants area. Read another review for info on the interior shop/decor/gift area because I was on a mission when I visited: to identify the plants landscapers used at at my home. I'd heard the folks were knowledgeable, and this is SOOOO true! I brought pictures and written descriptions. Do you have plant/landscape questions? Head for the kiosk in the garden area where they lent me their expertise. For specific items where my photo or description left a question, we visited specimen plants to clarify. Abide-A-While invested time to help me. This isn't the largest nursery, but they have a lovely selection and the people are AWESOME. The most knowledgeable staff I've ever worked with, and plenty of them. Good variety of local plants and almost everything there is at least grown locally by them or other area nurseries. Prices are on par with the big box stores for most plants, but you can't beat them for herbs and veggies in season. read more
