Stopped here for some potting soil. This is a fairly nice country hardware store. Smaller than most Ace Hardware stores where I usually shop, it has a limited selection. There's a small garden center out front. In the back of the store there's a USPS desk and a marketplace featuring wares of local artists and artisans. The associates throughout the store were friendly and helpful.

I disagree that they aren't focused on customer service here. Every time I come in they're more than willing to help and know the store inside and out. I would prefer to come here than the big box down the street. The only downfall is that Ace obviously doesn't have as a big a selection. I'll usually check here first, then try other options if needed. I love that they have a Post Office in here too. They're full service so you can get anything done you normally would at the other Mt P USPS (except picking up mail) and save yourself a ton of time. An even bigger bonus is that Sweetgrass Cafe is attached to the side of the building so make sure to schedule your home improvement break around lunch time.

Great local home improvement store. I have driven by many times, and the sign saying "Pre-emergent time" drew me in. Outside area can hold lots of plants and flowers, it's still winter so selection was limited. But I've seen it full as the season progresses. I was immediately greeted upon entering and then 3 more times. The store has many items you want and need for home. I found the pre-emergent, then picked up some bird suet on sale. Checkout was easy, and another friendly interaction. I'm coming back again, and hope to find veggies and colorful plants to buy. The service is well appreciated.

Amazing service at ace hardware store in Mt Pleasant. Richard was awesome; got my fancy European coffee pot working for $.50.

Does the second time in three months that I've come to ace hardware on Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant South Carolina. Both times I was helped by Richard. I'm just blown away by his great service.

There's some that…read moreare larger and some that have lower prices, but the service and knowledge at Abide A While can't be matched. When I first moved to Mount Pleasant 5 years ago, Abide A While was the first nursery that I went to. As soon as I walked in the annual section, I was met with the warmest smile by an older lady that instantly made me feel at home. I forgot her name, but after talking for a while she had mentioned she was with the company for about 40 years! Being as happy as she was with the same company for that long is definitely is a statement in itself! Unfortunately she retired not too long ago, but now I've met so many other friendly and knowledgeable people at Abide A While. Bruce and J.D.(?) are my go-tos. As for the layout, I like it a lot. Pretty much all the annuals are to the right. Houseplants are on the left, inside with the household items. (All of the household items are beautifully displayed and consist of great quality). Outside, towards the rear of the building are the perennials, trees, and some tropical plants. One of the most important things about Abide A While is every plant is labeled and the majority have full descriptions! If the description is not on the pot, it'll be on a nearby post or printed out on a card. There's nothing more that I hate than to have to do full research on the spot for a plant that catches my eye. So kudos to them for providing that information. I'll end with saying Abide A While is just beautiful, inside and out. I especially love going there after a stressful day. It's so serene, and even majestic in a way. If you haven't been there before, it's worth going for that reason alone.

You'll probably find what you're looking for, at least in terms of local shrubs, flowers, and trees. I definitely go here versus a big box store, not only for quality reasons but also for "specialty" items. Plus, if you have kiddos, there's a little pond with koi fish and a (caged) chicken area to explore. Almost all of the plants that I've gotten from there have held up after planting and are still healthy and growing. The not-so-good: On subsequent visits, the supply/availability of certain items can definitely vary. One of the times I had to leave without finding what I wanted. Depending on where you live (e.g. downtown), it can be pretty far of a drive (especially if there's traffic).

Once you're…read morepast the sprawl of Mount Pleasant and ease into Awendaw, the noise and hurry of the city fall away. The nursery sits quietly off the road, surrounded by trees and open space, and it always feels calm and unhurried--like exactly where you're supposed to be if you need to breathe a little deeper and dig your hands in the dirt again. But beyond the beauty of the location, what makes Hidden Ponds stand out is the experience of actually shopping there. The variety is impressive--from native plants to flowering perennials, trees, herbs, tropicals, and everything in between. But what's even more impressive is that the young folks working there know their stuff. And I don't just mean being able to point you to where the ferns are. I mean they can speak to Latin names, plant families, light needs, watering preferences--real plant knowledge that makes a huge difference when you're trying to bring something home and actually keep it alive. That kind of expertise is something I truly appreciate, and it's rare to find at big-box garden centers. At Hidden Ponds, you're getting thoughtful advice from people who clearly care about what they're doing. It's encouraging, it's helpful, and it makes the whole experience feel more intentional. Also--let's talk about the containers. I've never once left without being tempted by (or totally giving in to) one of their absolutely gorgeous planters. Their selection is next level: unique shapes, sizes, and finishes you don't see everywhere else. Whether you want something modern and clean or rustic and textured, they've got it--and I always end up mentally rearranging my porch or garden beds just to justify one more. If you're into gardening or just want a peaceful place to browse plants with some truly helpful guidance, this place is worth the drive. Hidden Ponds lives up to its name--beautiful, a little hidden, and full of good surprises.

I needed ten, so asked her to hold them for me til I arrived within the hour. I offered to give her my credit card to "hold" them. It apparently wasn't necessary but she took the number down anyway. Later, looking at my reciept, I saw that they charged me a "CONVENIENCE FEE" of $.74 FOR USING MY CREDIT CARD - without warning me. I called and spoke to the mgr, who I told that I was NEVER informed of a "convenience fee"("convenient" for whom...?). Had I been, I would happily have pay ca$h. I requested a refund for this ridiculous, (ILLEGAL?) charge. She replied, "My employee ALWAYS tells people about the fee!" Well, in this case she did NOT. Credit card fees are a cost of doing business that the proprietor must eat, and/or adjust her prices accordingly to absorb them. She was extremely unpleasant, refused to refund this bogus charge, (which I easily could have disputed with Discover) but since the pine straw was okay I chose not too, but I will inform YOU to steer clear of this less than honest establishment. Stick with Hidden Ponds, Hyams, or Abide a While garden centers - they all understand customer service.

(This may not be a bad thing for some so don't get me wrong.) If you're looking for special something that represents Charleston -- look no further than Modern Manor! There are some items that are right on point for what they should cost. However, I did find many things slightly over-priced. Again, this is a place where MANY local artisans can display their goods, so you've got an eclectic experience awaiting you as soon as you walk through the doors! There's a central checkout right at front and center-- I think I noticed two cashiers up front to check you out! Had I not have tried to take in the entire store I will say if you had a question at any point during your perusal, you might be out of luck to find someone. That being said-- I absolutely LOVE that they have included a local craft coffee shop in Harlow & Pearl to add to the charm of the converted barn market for a Country Chic feel. Love that you can grab a coffee and shop at your leisure without someone looking over your shoulder so you're able to experience everything at your own pace. It's a nice touch. The nature of the size of the place, lends it to being a nice space to spend a lazy afternoon, especially in the rain, to look for the perfect gift for that special someone to suit whatever specific occasion you might need to serve!
