Overall: A great local nursery that is leagues better than what you'll find at a big box store…read more Shop local! The good: Plenty of parking and lots of variety to choose from. You'll probably find what you're looking for, at least in terms of local shrubs, flowers, and trees. I definitely go here versus a big box store, not only for quality reasons but also for "specialty" items. Plus, if you have kiddos, there's a little pond with koi fish and a (caged) chicken area to explore. Almost all of the plants that I've gotten from there have held up after planting and are still healthy and growing. The not-so-good: On subsequent visits, the supply/availability of certain items can definitely vary. One of the times I had to leave without finding what I wanted. Depending on where you live (e.g. downtown), it can be pretty far of a drive (especially if there's traffic).

There's something about driving out to Hidden Ponds that instantly shifts your mood. Once you're…read morepast the sprawl of Mount Pleasant and ease into Awendaw, the noise and hurry of the city fall away. The nursery sits quietly off the road, surrounded by trees and open space, and it always feels calm and unhurried--like exactly where you're supposed to be if you need to breathe a little deeper and dig your hands in the dirt again. But beyond the beauty of the location, what makes Hidden Ponds stand out is the experience of actually shopping there. The variety is impressive--from native plants to flowering perennials, trees, herbs, tropicals, and everything in between. But what's even more impressive is that the young folks working there know their stuff. And I don't just mean being able to point you to where the ferns are. I mean they can speak to Latin names, plant families, light needs, watering preferences--real plant knowledge that makes a huge difference when you're trying to bring something home and actually keep it alive. That kind of expertise is something I truly appreciate, and it's rare to find at big-box garden centers. At Hidden Ponds, you're getting thoughtful advice from people who clearly care about what they're doing. It's encouraging, it's helpful, and it makes the whole experience feel more intentional. Also--let's talk about the containers. I've never once left without being tempted by (or totally giving in to) one of their absolutely gorgeous planters. Their selection is next level: unique shapes, sizes, and finishes you don't see everywhere else. Whether you want something modern and clean or rustic and textured, they've got it--and I always end up mentally rearranging my porch or garden beds just to justify one more. If you're into gardening or just want a peaceful place to browse plants with some truly helpful guidance, this place is worth the drive. Hidden Ponds lives up to its name--beautiful, a little hidden, and full of good surprises.

His description and excitement over this plant's vibrant blooms-to-come were animatedly relayed so I was sure the little bush would be amazing the following spring. I love people whom are good at their jobs! Thanks nursery dude for making me happy this spring. Trust. Faith. Vision.

I needed ten, so asked her to hold them for me til I arrived within the hour. I offered to give her my credit card to "hold" them. It apparently wasn't necessary but she took the number down anyway. Later, looking at my reciept, I saw that they charged me a "CONVENIENCE FEE" of $.74 FOR USING MY CREDIT CARD - without warning me. I called and spoke to the mgr, who I told that I was NEVER informed of a "convenience fee"("convenient" for whom...?). Had I been, I would happily have pay ca$h. I requested a refund for this ridiculous, (ILLEGAL?) charge. She replied, "My employee ALWAYS tells people about the fee!" Well, in this case she did NOT. Credit card fees are a cost of doing business that the proprietor must eat, and/or adjust her prices accordingly to absorb them. She was extremely unpleasant, refused to refund this bogus charge, (which I easily could have disputed with Discover) but since the pine straw was okay I chose not too, but I will inform YOU to steer clear of this less than honest establishment. Stick with Hidden Ponds, Hyams, or Abide a While garden centers - they all understand customer service.
