The contract so heavily favors the store owners 3) It will cost you money to transport any bigger items to the store (unless you have friends with pick-up trucks). 4) In the end....we made hardly any money......not worth the energy. 5) And since we were already gone.....we couldn't go back and pick up a piece of furniture (they said did not sell) to see if we could sell it ourselves. That was, until a Black Friday ad showed up on our TV and my hub called out, "Hon, come look at this chair." "Yeah, it could work," I casually replied. I had a plan. First thing, Small Business Saturday, I stopped into J&K Furnishings in the Belle Hall Shopping Center (Long Point Road) as soon as it opened. I was approached immediately by Karen who took me over to the advertised chair. She was knowledgeable and patient, even knowing that there would be no sale. I was there just to check out the chair. Yes, it was comfortable, genuine buttery leather, priced well and was exactly what I wanted. I told Karen that I'd be back the next day with my husband. We returned on Sunday and worked with Ryan who also was patient and low key. He closed the sale. We both appreciated that he did not try to upsell a higher priced chair or other items. We actually asked for a protection plan. Delivery was set and confirmed with an automated phone call. The drivers called as they were on the way. My bride and I bought a very nice outdoor loveseat slider that's been on our front porch for about 4 years now. In the evenings we can sit together and watch sunsets as we glide along smoothly back and forth. What an absolute pleasure. We also bought a BarcaLounger, wicker outdoor recliner for me to sit in on our back porch. It certainly saw years of great use. About 6 months ago I began having problems with it. My bride, being the lady she is, found the warranty paperwork for it and I called Darla at Backyard Retreats. After she spoke with the BarcaLounger representative they decided to honor the warranty and replace the old recliner. Wow! We were extremely happy as the old one had become uncomfortable almost to the point of not being able to sit on it. Darla did a wonderful job as the intermediary between us and BarcaLounger. You know what kind of job that is, trying to manage expectations on both sides and keep everyone happy. Well, I can say we are more than happy right now. Thrilled is the word I'd use. The guys came out today and delivered the new recliner and took the old one to the curb for pick up tomorrow. And she didn't charge us a penny for the delivery either! Color me purple!! I am now running the old cushion covers through the wash so I will have a brand new and clean recliner to relax in as I watch the Cubs beat the Rockies tonight and pick up a game on the Brewers. OK, I got sidetracked. Here's the bottom line, we never expected to have any kind of warranty issue, but when we did, Darla did everything in her power to contact the company rep and keep me in the loop as well. The new recliner was delivered to the store this morning and instead of putting it inside, they loaded it into their van and brought it directly here. How can you beat that? Byron & Ricardo did a great job of bringing the new recliner around the house and into our back porch and then took the old one from our deck straight out to the street where the garbage men will haul it away tomorrow. I'm about to call Darla to let her know how happy i am with how everything has gone. I don't ever expect for there to be another warranty issue, but in the unlikely event there is, I know that Darla will be on top of it just like she was this time. I'd give 7 stars if they let me. The quality and selection of all things that make a Backyard Retreat the comfortable and welcoming spot that it is are out for you to view in their showroom. No, they're not cheap. Not the price and certainly not the chairs we bought. They are top of the line quality and I look at the recliner issue as just a small bump in the road as Darla has done a magnificent job of handling every aspect of our business with the manufacturer. From selling us the chairs to having this one replaced - and delivered for free, we could not be any happier. I'm an old broken down retired Marine and believe me, this recliner is a wonderful place where I spend hours each day I'm home, from snoozing to reading books or fiddling with my iPad. Me and my recliner spend a lot of time together and I can hardly wait to get the cushion covers out of the dryer and put them on the cushions so my chair is ready for regular use again!!! Thank you Yelp for providing a place where I can put out the word about how awesome Backyard Retreats here in Mount Pleasant really is!
