Mike started and took 32000 and has completed only little work and has now stopped taking my call and I hear that he has done this to others. If anyone knows how to reach him please message me. CAUTION - Liars!!! Keep away from this company!!! The star is for the good sales job they did on us. The final look is good after we had to hound them to finish the job right! After pouring the driveway they did not cleaning up the street, leaving residue to dry and blow in the neighbors ' houses. They even tried to get away with not sealing the pavers even though we paid for it. MIKE IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST LIARS I've ever met. He promised us the workers would not be using the brand new bathroom but they did tracking dirt in all over our new floors. He said the sand would harden with the seal applied. Never hardened and the sand started falling through and leaving gaps in between the pavers when it. They never used a compactor to compact the sandy grout. He promised he would come back and fix that and never did. This was summer 2016. Keep away from this company! EXPENSIVE!!!!! read more

Thanks to Mike Mikolajcik and Dave Garcia, we have a beautiful backyard with newly installed retaining walls and an artificial turf lawn for some serious tee ball and later batting practice. The quality is top notch, and throughout the process we were able to have all of our questions answered and concerns addressed by Mike or Dave in a timely manner. The project did run a bit longer than expected due to city permit issues, but the team handled those issues themselves and helped resolve all inspections, etc. in a professional manner. We are especially impressed by the quality of the work completed, the options we were given, and the end product. The team even added some freebies to make the yard look put together such as surrounding trees with stones, an additional stairway leading to the bottom landing, and some great sprinkler details that we had not thought to ask for. For our next phase, we are looking to plant roses and are requesting a quote from Mike and Dave. ------------------------------------------------ Update: When our new lawn had some minor damage from the major rain we got in November / December 2014 (small area sunk down). Dave Garcia with Home & Garden Construction Group is truly the most professional, reliable and responsive contractor we've ever worked with. He worked closely with us to design and landscape our front and backyard within our budget. We had an extremely steep hillside in our backyard that was unusable and over run with trees, weeds and overgrown shrubs. The new yard has added more enjoyment to our house since it extended our "living space" - we frequently dine alfresco while viewing our low maintenance (but colorful) yard and even project movies outside to watch with our little girl at dusk since it's so nice (it feels like landscaped grounds that you see at fancy hotel resorts). We constantly get praise from folks driving past our house yelling, "GREAT YARD!" "Nice Job with the flowers!" or "Love what you did!" People actually stop and touch our grass as they pass by during their evening walks. Neighbors have actually rung our doorbell asking for Dave's contact information so he can work on their yards. We didn't think our yard was thaaat bad to begin with - but we sure are proud of how it looks now (even a year after the work's been done). Dave has also followed up with us regularly over the past year to ensure everything is in tip top shape. He even fixed a sprinkler issue for us as a courtesy. I wish there were an option to give more than five stars, they were that good. We were in desperate need for a skilled, affordable and available landscaper and we were lucky enough to find HGCG and Dave Garcia. Not only did our yard look terrible, it was not really functional and, worst of all, the entire backyard drained into our garage, flooding it every time it rained. I really needed someone who not only make the yard look nice, but had the technical chops to make sure the yard drained properly. I had so much trouble finding someone who knew what they were doing, and so many firms didn't follow through with bids. Terrible. Then I called HGCG. Jackpot! Dave worked with me to put in a ton of drainage, redesign the yard so that it is functional for us, and make the yard look great (and be low maintenance). He did all of this on budget, in three weeks, and was super-friendly and easy to work with. He even coordinated work with other contractors (tree removal) so we didn't have to play middle-man. Plus, he fixed the door to our crawlspace- not in the job description, but just something a little extra. In total, they put in a drainage system (no problem with el nino this year!); redesigned the yard; put in a new patio, driveway, and paths; selected and planted plants and bushes (all going strong six months later), installed irrigation (sprinklers and drip, on a timer), and replaced our front lawn. On budget and on time, with super-high quality work. I've known other people who had landscapers who were difficult to work with, over budget and deadline, and ended up with a bunch of dead plants. We were so lucky to find HGCG. I cannot recommend HGCG highly enough! read more

Completely satisfied! Transformed my mother's driveway, walkway, and porch from ordinary concrete to gorgeous pavers. From original 4' wide straight paths to elegant 5' serpentine paths. What a huge difference! The entire process was easy with no surprises. Consultation-to-completion in under a month. Demolition-to-finish in under 10 days. Dave Garcia gladly worked with us throughout the entire project; from design elements, very reasonable bid, though each of the project steps. Easy to reach with speedy responses. The scheduling staff followed up with email confirmations of appointments - very professional. It helped us tremendously to visit their brickyard in Concord, where we could see and touch the materials before starting. We decided on a large slate look installed on a diagonal layout, sturdy paver edging, and chisel-edge natural limestone steps. Beautiful! The crew was friendly and energetic, with superb craftsmanship. They went over and above basic construction to help me move a tree stump out of the way, and bring in topsoil filler at no extra charge. Clean finish! We will definitely use HGCG again for the next phases: front yard landscaping, side yard retaining wall, back yard RV pad. It may take us a few months/years to budget the next projects, but I can rely on HGCG to be there when we're ready. read more

Called last week to set up an appointment to talk about a (fairly major) landscaping, irrigation and lighting project. Set an appointment for Wednesday at 4pm and they said there was an hour window, so they would arrive by 5pm at the latest. No sign of them at 5:15 so I called, waited for a while, and was told "Mike" would be tracked down and either show up (as promised) or call me. Never heard from Mike. Called back the next day and told them what happened. No apology, but a promise to forward my inquiry to the "on call team" and someone would call me back ASAP. Never heard from anyone. Was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the first no-show, but at this point, I'm pretty annoyed. Can only imagine what service is like AFTER they get your business if this is how things are when they're supposedly trying to win business! read more

Appointment set for 10am. At 11:20 am I call them and get put on hold. Like a previous post I was told initially there was an hour window therefore 11 am would be the absolute latest. 11:30 I hang up and call again. I tell the lady before she puts me on hold I can't wait any longer and have to go to work. She puts me on hold... she returns and says, "I canceled your appointment for you." I tell her the appointment was not canceled, MIKE NO SHOWED and did not have the gd common courtesy to call me. She says, "um, like I don't know anything about that but I'll put it in the notes." Thanks for wasting my morning (I took off work for this!?). To top it off, afterwards, I get an email from "do not reply @ whatever.com..." saying we're sorry you had to cancel your appointment and we look forward to rescheduling." No thanks! Friend just asked me who did our paver driveway and if I would recommend them- 5th time someone has asked us about our driveway. Home and Garden did the driveway and unfortunately I would not recommend them. The install went pretty smoothly but a couple of months later a row of pavers were loose- not a big deal, right? They have a 10 year warranty to cover the job. Well, I was wrong it took many months, multiple phone calls, messages, being unable to leave a message because the voicemail box was full to finally have a crew come out and fix the work. Based on the difficulty and incredible delays to repair the work I can't recommend this company. I'm crossing my fingers that we don't have any future issues with the work- such a shame since the driveway looks great. read more

I find Mike's response to my review interesting. I'm not sure he read what I wrote. I never said it didn't look good at the end. Pictures will definitely show it looks good (except if you look at the part where the drive butts up to the sidewalk, they never were able to remove the old asphalt that they promised they would get rid of). What my review does state is that their communication was horrendous and once they were paid for one job, they were out of there even though they weren't done with the job. Yes, when they came, they did nice work. But do you really want to wonder if they are going to be reliable? Your call. read more

Mike did a lot of landscaping work for me last year. The design was good and the work itself was done pretty well. Where Mike fails is customer service. First, the project started MUCH later than he projected. Instead of telling me it would be later he just kept putting me off. Emails and calls to the main office got no response. Luckily I had his cell phone so I was able to talk to him that way. Tune in to post project. We had a 3 month warranty on plants. MANY died - about 20. I sent him pictures and asked him to come see. Also, I discovered he laid a sprinkler system hose right over the water meter. I asked him to come repair and replace. For months - September through January I got repeated responses as to why he couldn't come. After the first month or two we just negotiated a $ amount and he said he would send a check. Again, I have been stalled and stalled - there is always a reason why he cannot come through. I see now after 6 months that he will never come through. I hate writing bad reviews but I feel like it has to be buyer beware! read more

I've waited a year before writing this review. This was a large landscape and paver project. There were several problems along the way including a tractor that sat broken down in my front yard for almost three weeks. The job was to include paver seal at a reduced rate because of this issue and others. I contacted Peter 3 times about this and yet it has never been done. A year later most of the landscaping looks good, but the way the plants in the front of the yard were placed were not selected or placed properly. Some big plants in front dwarf some plants in the back. They did ad some lighting, but why paver up lights on the driveway were never suggested I don't know. The partners of the company have split. Based on these issues, I really wouldn't recommend them. read more

This was a big project which lasted about 8 weeks. I'm pretty happy with the final outcome, but it took a significant amount of daily review and repeated follow up on my part to get it close to correct. They didn't provide a detailed drawing with measurements/detailed dimensions, so what I thought would be put in was sometimes different than what was actually done. Decisions were made about changes from the original discussions without my approval (I wasn't even told about them). Example: The walkway around the house is 4ft wide and we had talked about 3.5 ft wide which is what I wanted. Is that the worst thing in the world? No, but I wanted a 3.5 ft wide walk because of the scale of everything around it. I didn't realize the size until the border pavers has been set in concrete. I wanted an inlay in the large back area and I was very particular about the location and the size. I spent several hours moving pavers around to determine where I wanted it and to determine the size. I sent the exact information to them yet the inlay was not put in based on my instructions. I told them they had to fix it which they did but the first question coming back to me was always, "You don't like it the way it is?" If I liked it the way it was, I wouldn't be telling you to fix it. The front yard paver design was almost laid in completely differently than the drawing (straight path instead of a curved path). It was finally changed after the second follow up. They had actually set in and cut pavers which caused a good amount of waste. My guess is that's why they didn't have any of the smaller sizes of pavers to leave with me for any future rework. During the project, they cracked a lot of concrete with the bobcat and the heavy trucks in my driveway and on my sidewalk. They replaced it but they were very sloppy and I now have white concrete residue /splash along the border with my pretty, expensive red-toned pavers. Can't get it off. Lastly, the lime tree they planted is not the kind I asked for (it's some kind of sweet lime and I wanted a standard lime). It took time for the tree bear to fruit for me to determine this. I told him it was the wrong type of tree at the end of August. It's now the end of Nov and I'm "on the rework list" with no date for the work. About half of the emails I have sent regarding the status have been unanswered. I finally gave up and am having another company come and replace it. All in all, it's done and it's mostly what I wanted but it was a frustrating project. read more

I was dreading the redo of our front and back yard. But looking like the Munsters wasn't making many friends in the neighborhood- it was time to do something. Enter Mike and Dave. 2 meetings later, beautiful plans are rolled out on the kitchen table, showing us that not only did they listen to us about things like scent, color and our uselessness when it comes to gardening, but that they took into account the style of our home beyond what we could have imagined. Our yard was completed under time, on budget and painlessly. Every member of their crew was hard working, considerate and super nice to my over zealous dog - big points in my book. I can not wait to do another project with this team - and you really should think about calling them to take care of the dead lawn in front of your house! read more

Would you recommend this company. Difficult to get a hold of and will not communicate. Very passive after money is paid. Like many has said paver would not last long (only a few months) after project is done. They have no ability to back their work. Save your money and time, go with other reliable company. Mike Mikolajcik did an outstanding job in designing and building my backyard. I purchased a new home at Dublin in Schafers Ranch. It is an average size back yard and he did a very creative design within our budget. He was very knowledgeable and professional in his work. His price quote was very reasonable and quality of materials and selection of plants was excellent. He also built a viewing deck which is very useful and also enhances the look of my backyard. My house is a corner lot with an excellent view of Mountains. Design and construction of my backyard has enhanced the view. There were no detailed plans so a few issues had to be worked out during the project. Brett and Mike quickly responded to every request/question I had during the project. Mike came to do the landscape design for our yard, but unfortunately it was a complete waste of money. We have to now hire a new landscape architect who will actually listen to what we want in OUR yard. We told him exactly where we wanted all the elements of our garden and yard as well as the types of plants we wanted. Instead we got gravel paths where we wanted our outdoor kitchen (which he left off the plan completely), fruit trees in the middle of our garden area instead of trained along the fence. He put lawn where we wanted entertaining space and a patio where we wanted lawn, trees left in areas where we told him to remove them, and TOXIC plants with nice shiny, red berries where my small children will be playing. If you actually want a landscape architect that will listen to you and make useable, plans try someone else. Don't waste your time and money like we did. read more

Home and Garden group did the landscaping for my challenging "slopey" backyard. Although we had a slightly rocky start with another landscaper from the company, once Mike Mikolajcik took over our project everything went really smoothly. The landscaping of building a wall, installing a level patio, a small set of stone stairs and paving a dirt pathway was done in a record time of a few weeks. Mike also rocked at really helped pave the way towards getting things done by doing a lot of the unpleasant paperwork and legwork for permits, and was on top and responsive to all communication with me. By far the best landscapers I've ever worked with. Dave installed excellent hardscape for our Hillsborough home and, with his partner Mike (an experienced nursery operator), he selected and installed excellent trees and native plantings. They were on time and on budget. The job looks better than I expected and cost less than I thought it would. Dave was flexible about small changes during the project; there were no surprises except that the firm delivered more than bargained for without hassling about the price. The crews were tidy and courteous, without exception. We found this firm through family members who located them through Yelp for a smaller home in San Mateo. I used Home and Garden Construction Group and I loved their work. My backyard was a disaster. After speaking with Mike about ideas I had for my yard, I was very impressed that he emailed me the same day with an estimate and brought in a design within a week of my estimate approval. Once my husband and I approved the design we were able to start a week later. It was a 5 week project. Of course there were a few ups and downs, but Mike was able to have everything fixed and the project was easy for us. Let me preface by saying that I've never written a bad Yelp review, but I really need to warn people about Mike and how he pulls wool over people's eyes. Mike did a huge project for us last year (full drainage and front/back yard installation that lasted 3 months). We hired a great designer who created very detailed landscape plans and all Mike had to do was implement them. At first, the project went well. He started a couple weeks late but did regular check-ins and seemed to listen to us and to be following the plans. When it came to the french drain, my husband and I were very clear about making the trench deep enough, but he wouldn't listen. Luckily we had early rains and discovered that the french drain they built wasn't working, so they had to re-do it. That was just the beginning... it really went sideways when the concrete started to get poured. I wrongly trusted that Mike was following the very detailed plans, but he wasn't. He created much larger gaps (double in size) in between my concrete steps and pavers (wasn't able to change it), he built the fire pit much too large, the wooden bench a foot short and framed the BBQ in the wrong direction (thankfully I caught that before they poured the concrete!) He also used the wrong tool for making score lines in the back patio even though it was very clear in the plans how to do it! When it came time to plant, Mike often used the wrong varieties, planted the wrong # of plants and sizes that the plan has prescribed and I had to constantly micro manage everything his team was doing. At this point I had completely lost trust in Mike. I felt like he was trying to get the job done as quickly as possible and he didn't care about our plans. Did he ever do a follow-up? Nope. He snuck into our yard to take pictures for his portfolio but not once did he ask how things were going (despite knowing we needed different heads on some sprinklers to adjust water flow). When I asked Mike to replace the mulch under the trampoline with turf (at our expense), he said we were next on his list. 7 weeks later and he won't answer my emails or messages. Finally, now that we're 4-5 months after installation, the plants are blooming and we've discovered that he hadn't followed our color scheme (he planted the wrong variety) and now we are stuck with having to replace a ton of new plants because many are the wrong color. For these reasons, I do not trust Mike and would not recommend him for landscape work. read more
