Jorge installed our garden in our front yard in the Oakland Hills. It was a big job--we had many trees removed, and the front of the house had only dirt and shrubs left. We hired a great landscape designer, and then Jorge did the installation and irrigation. We went from a barren landscape to a lush and beautiful native garden. See photos. He has also done our garden maintenance for many years. Great family, great job. read more

We have been using Jorge Zavala for many years to bring our rather wild vegetation to compliance with the regulations of our local fire department. He and his amazing team work beautifully together to not only make everything safer but also more beautiful. It's a pleasure to have Jorge and his friendly team work their magic efficiently and rapidly. I highly recommend Jorge for all your landscaping needs. You can reach Jorge at (510) 459-6359 to schedule an appointment. read more

Single-handedly TRANSFORMED my awful, dangerous (literal rusty equipment and shards of glass buried everywhere), shabby-looking yard into an absolute oasis. Jorge and his team did an amazing job helping us choose plants - and not just what would grow where, but also what would look good together (patterns, heights, colors, spread, etc.). So, he has a knack for design as well as the necessary deep knowledge of plants required to maintain a healthy garden. We've only lost 2 or 3 plants since the landscaping was installed a year ago, which is a very high rate of success in my experience. Love working with the team, and feel the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend! read more

JZP Tree Services - New retaining wall, new plantings and new gravel path above retaining wall. - Landscaping Near Me

I wouldn't recommend. Did a decent job doing our monthly maintenance. However, I then used him for a larger job, and he didn't do so great. Charged way too much, didn't do a good job, and was very slow to come back and fix his mistakes. Ended up costing us ALOT more money to fix his mistakes. I'd recommend for simple maintenance, but nothing more involved or complicated. read more

I needed a backyard overhaul. I forgot to take a before picture but it was a wreck. Jorge was provided quick turnaround on coming by to provide an estimate. He was easy to work with. I picked up a few plants that I liked and wanted to include in the replanting but left it up to Jorge and crew to fill the rest in. Reasonable quote and they came and did the work all in one day. The yard was dug up, palm tree trimmed, dead bushes/plants/weeds all needed to go. He planted new plants, landscape fabric to keep weeds minimized, wood chips and a stone area patio. and he fixed sprinkler heads. I posted to facebook and friends were like wow, is that the same yard!. Jorge and team were fast, friendly, and efficient. I would use again. read more

I have been using Jorge & his team for biweekly landscape service and have used them to replace an old wood retaining wall. I cannot say enough good things about them...they do a wonderful job, are always on time, reasonably priced, and extremely friendly. Highly highly recommend. read more

Jorge Zavala is a fabulous gardener. He started out doing a one-time clean up in our garden over five years ago. I liked his work so much that I asked him to come back regularly since then. He is very knowledgeable about many types of plants and trees - blooming or otherwise, has a great eye for proportion and shape, and does what is necessary to get the job done. In addition, he is pleasant, fair, reliable and honest. Jorge also provides irrigation repair/installation and custom landscaping services. Jorges provides landscaping/gardening services in the following cities: Oakland, Piedmont, Berkeley, Alameda, Albany, Orinda and Lafayette and can be reached at: (510) 459-6359. read more

Jorge did an amazing job on our landscaping project. We moved into our home in the Oakland Hills about a year ago, and the entire front yard was completely covered in river rocks and lacked any landscaping vision whatsoever. We had a few ideas as to what we wanted, and Jorge came in and made it happen. He installed a new irrigation system, grass, plants, beds, and a gravel path, all for an extremely reasonable price. His quote came in much lower than most others, and he did a great job. He and his crew are very professional, and were quick to get the job done with no nonsense. The yard looks amazing, and we get tons of compliments on it from neighbors. read more

Amazing! The fact that anyone would give him a 1 star review is baffling. Jorge did a substantial terracing job in our hills home. It used to be a jungle. Now it's a beautiful terraced yard in three levels with moss rock retaining walls, a green lawn, an herb terrace, and a netted vegetable garden. AND he did it all at under the cost of the competition. He tends to our yard every other week. No complaints. Will employ him to do some more terracing work further downhill later this year. Monthly maintainance consists of overuse of weedwacker and blower. Failed to weed plants and properly trim leaves. Initially promised 1.5hr minimum per month with 3 guys. Actually spent only 40 minutes on site. I view that as dishonest. read more

I found Jorge Zavala on Yelp, and was impressed by the reviews and had a feeling he'd be the right guy for our job. He and his team were perfect! I'm the kind of person who has a vision for what I want, but my husband and I were not up to coordinating the kind of project we had in mind. The thing I really appreciated about Jorge was that he listened (a rare trait) and gave us exactly what we thought we wanted, with the needed improvements and suggestions that made the end result outstanding. Where I was stumped on the appropriate plant, he made excellent suggestions. I was impressed that included in our very reasonable fee was the trip to the wholesale nursery, where Jorge and I spent several hours selecting beautiful specimens that saved us substantial money. I found his team to be very pleasant. Jorge is the only one who speaks English proficiently, and I suggest that the best way to communicate with him is in person. We love our new space - seeing the results makes me giddy. In the end, Jorge provided us with a gorgeous rock wall and crushed rock paths, mounded beds, irrigation, a new lawn, trees and shrubs. He also incorporated existing plants that I wanted moved into the landscape. My sense is that he is good at responding to the situation at hand, whether you need something very modest, have a vision for your project, or don't have a clue where to begin. He is very responsive and takes real pride in providing a valuable service. After using him, I see the value in having him tweak and maintain our yard going forward, I will definitely be using him again. This landscaping project was one of the most fun projects ever to occur at our house. Five stars, Jorge! read more

Showed up unannounced, never discussed details of the scope of work (or even made a firm appointment), and destroyed several hundred dollars worth of year-old plants before I realized what was happening and halted work! Utterly atrocious. You're really taking a gamble if you use these people. read more

I called Jorge last Wednesday with no idea what I wanted my yard to ultimately look like. We also didn't have a proper irrigation system. He came over within hours, quickly assessed the situation and told me he could come back with his crew on Saturday. Jorge's crew put a 4 valve sprinkler system while we were away buying plants in San Ramon and they had the whole job done that day. His team is amazing! Jorge's knowledge of different plants and ways to irrigate was great. We are excited to start working with him on maintenance and additional projects. read more

We had Jorge re-landscape our backyard 14 years ago and it still looks beautiful, so when we finally decided to tackle our front yard 14 years later, we called Jorge and are so happy we did. The new landscaping looks amazing. He modernized our garden, taking out all the border plants that were DONE, keeping a few trees that were in good shape and adding plants that will grow well in the light and that really compliment our home and our aesthetic. Jorge and his crew are fast, thorough and thoughtful about the work they do. They completely re-irrigated the front yard and also added landscape lighting. Talk about curb appeal, everything looks so refreshed and current. And we have 2 new fruit trees, to boot! An added bonus is Jorge's fair pricing. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Jorge. He is AMAZING. read more

We had Jorge and his crew do some work in our backyard which entailed: replacing grass with new sod, running all new irrigation to new lawn and 1/3 of backyard hill, completely removing countless pavers/stones/bark and replace with 4 yards of pea gravel, install french drain, build stairs and set new modern pavers. He also updated our 4 valve (3 working) irrigation system to an updated commercial 6 valve system. Hallelujah, no more hand watering. Requested he add 3 yards of black bark and a few other little additions. His quote was reasonable as was the increase for my additions. They did more in two days (before the rains) than any other landscaper I have had over here. His crew is courteous and his son is very pleasant to talk to. What I expected to be over a weeks worth of work was only 3 days (excluding delays from the rains). I would highly recommend Jorge of any of your outdoor projects. We'll definitely be using him again. read more

Jorge and his team are fantastic! We recently had them do some work in our front yard and our backyard, which included: replacing grass on two small lawns with new sod; running new irrigation to the new lawns, several flower beds, and our entire large backyard hill; clearing our hill; planting around 40 plants and trees; bringing in lots of mulch; trimming trees; and building a stairway (filled with crushed gravel) down our hill. Everything looks wonderful, and Jorge did it all for a very reasonable price. We had a few ideas regarding what we wanted, and Jorge and his team came and gave us something even better than we envisioned. Jorge was honest and upfront about his estimates, and he and his team were very friendly and professional. Our yards look amazing, we are very much enjoying them, and we have received lots of compliments on them from our neighbors. Overall, Jorge and his team did a great job on our landscaping project. They now do our regular monthly maintenance as well. We would highly recommend Jorge, and we would gladly hire him again for our next landscaping project. read more

Jorge and his team took our waste of space of slope in the hills and turned it into a remarkable flat space, with stairs, planted over 40 plants, brought in mulch and transformed our yard into a space we look forward to enjoying in the summer. He did was upfront and honest about his estimates, provided all receipts for all purchases and finished the work when stated. He listens, gives good advice and gives his opinion but never interferes in the design unless needed. I'd gladly hire him again on our next yard and to come back and work on some other projects we have in mind from tree trimming, maintenance, to adding more plants and a possible bocce ball court. He is super busy with other projects but give him the chance to give you a bid and he'll prove worth the time. read more

Jorge did an absolutely amazing job transforming the front and back yards of our home in Rockridge. I got 6 bids for the work and Jorge's bid was very competitive, and I liked his vision right from the outset. He kept us involved in the process and helped us navigate every step of the way. During the project we made several changes that increased his price, but only incrementally. We had a lot of fun working together on the project and my wife and I always felt as though we were in good hands. I also like his crew; if you speak Spanish that is a bonus. I could not recommend Jorge more highly. read more

We just bought a home in the Oakland Hills that has a terraced front yard. It was a mish mash of plants, trees and bushes. I was able to cut most of them down but was not going to pull all the stumps out. Along come Jorge and his crew and they did a fantastic job pulling out the stumps and the plants that I had not gotten to. I told him that we were planning on putting succulents in and we'd do that ourselves. He never pushed us to use him to put in the plants. They also left the front cleaner than how they found it. I highly recommend Jorge and his crew. read more

Jorge was very responsive and prompt. He squeezed me into his schedule on a moment's notice and he and his crew did a fantastic job tilling under old crab grass and finishing the mulch/bark landscaping project. Jorge Zavala and his crew are fantastic! We've built new residences a number of times and so have worked with many subcontractors over the years---the best are responsive, timely, efficient, and professional, and Jorge is all of that and more. Really delightful to work with, he is knowledgeable about landscaping and so was able to help us by making suggestions that improved our landscaping ''plan''. Our planting happened to coincide with a tremendous heat wave, and Jorge was concerned about the plants, and went to great efforts to ensure that the new irrigation system he had installed was immediately up and running. We are looking forward to working with him on other projects in the future, and highly recommend him. read more

Jorge Zavala and his crew have been taking care of my large yard for the past year. They always arrive when scheduled, and they do a very thorough job. I only wish I could give more stars! Jorge has been our gardener, landscape designer and friend for over 6 years. He has a remarkable talent and gift for visualizing and creating an outdoor environment that is both beautiful and integrates well with its surroundings. He was the driving force at helping to landscape the back yard of our Rockridge home, and he and his team maintained it over the years with meticulous care. We recently moved to a new home in Orinda, and he jumped on our need to build a retaining wall and landscape a very challenging, steep hill in the back yard. Jorge is exceptional in every way. He's insightful, creative, dependable, hardworking, reasonable from a cost perspective and a pleasure to work with. Thank you for the years of help and support Jorge! read more

I hired Jorge to complete a landscaping project on my large yard. He was accommodating and very easy to communicate with on this project that had many large and small elements. He and his crew were very skilled at building planter boxes, laying granite patio/walkway, grading, mulching, and adding sod. His crew worked incredibly fast and they graciously removed a stump and added a hose piece to existing irrigation without hesitation. I would absolutely hire Jorge again as he seems to competently handle all things yard related. And I plan to have him come in to do maintenance once I need it. read more

Great all around experience having Jorge do our front yard landscaping renewal. We needed to remove our front lawn and rebuild our succulent and rock garden. Although we planned the re-design of our yard, Jorge had several excellent and practical suggestions. He and his crew arrived on time, worked steadily and carefully, and cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each work day. They removed the lawn and old/dying plants, expanded the rock garden, setting the perimeter and many large rocks. They amended the soil, planted nearly 100 large and small plants that we provided, and then set the landscaping material, mulch, pebbles, and drip irrigation system. Check out our photos (if I can figure out how to upload them!) Jorge was easy to communicate with, pleasant to work with, and the total project was done as agreed at a very reasonable price. I have no hesitation about recommending Jorge's excellent work or having him work with us in the future. read more

When we moved into our house 3 years ago the yard was a jungle. Jorge and his men did an amazing job of clearing it out for a very reasonable price. They have been maintaining the yard ever since on a regular basis. At times we have extra projects and Jorge has been knowledgable about plants to use, watering systems, retaining walls and rockscaping. He is very trustworthy and appears to treat his crew very well. It is important to check in and adjust what you need (especially with the drought- I did not need the lawn cut so often for example) and I usually do that by text message. For larger changes I ask to meet with Jorge. I recommend him to everyone who asks! read more

We have been using Jorge for 10 years to enhance and maintain our yards in the Oakland hills and are a fan of him. He's professional, courteous, congenial and a pleasure to deal with. I think his prices are competitive. His crew is also nice and reliable, although they don't really speak English which sometimes makes communication a bit difficult when Jorge is absent. My only small reservation is that much of our regular yard maintenance time goes into leaf blowing and general clean up, vs. looking after plants, pruning trees, checking irrigation, ... But perhaps this is due to the fact we have large back and front yards, so I guess there's only so much 3 guys can do in 3 hours every 2 weeks. In any case, we highly recommend Jorge!! read more

Jorge and his guys are amazing! Our backyard was a weedy jungle and he cleaned it all up, not a weed in sight. He put in a new sprinkler system and placed new sod down and now our backyard looks so good. Can't wait for summer BBQ's! He is very easy to get ahold of and always calls or texts back right away.
