During one of the most recent storms, one of our 35' trees split and fell into our yard. I obtained 3 bids and was surprised at the cost disparity between the 3 companies. Juan Ramos, of JR Landscaping, was reasonable in comparison and actually helped us stay within our budget. He and his team were here on time, worked diligently throughout the day and all were very polite and friendly. As with most construction jobs, we ran into a couple of minor "hiccups" but Juan was very good about communicating and working with us to give us what we wanted. Our front yard had become overgrown with weeds and the atmospheric river and hail earlier in the year killed a bunch of succulents so we needed some cleanup. The folks from JR Landscaping did a pretty good job! It was $400 and it only took the two of them 45 minutes so while that seems steep, at least my wife and I didn't have to do it so we were grateful to get it done. The thing that pushes this rating from 4 stars (cost & a couple weed roots left that I'll take care of, no biggie) is that Juan was incredibly responsive and super on top of things. Out of all the folks I reached out to, he was the only one to actually show up to give an estimate. If they were running late, they texted or called. The need for a tree removal and yard cleanup was long overdue so with the help of Yelp I was able to find JR who is local to my area. A phone consultation was scheduled and the initial plan was removal of some trees and the clean up of a neglected yard. Everything was discussed in terms of length of time for completion, time they would start and end each day and more importantly the cost, which was within reason and negotiable. JR was very respectable of my time and hectic schedule and his communication was constant along with the attention to detail. The initial plan followed with a gutter clean up which I tacked on to get completed and we worked out a deal on after he assessed the space. FINALLY, after all the maintenance and after careful though the decision was made to do a low maintenance landscape for the now cleaned up space (a blank slate!) Once again, JR discussed the details, materials, work, cost and asked what I envisioned. Honestly, all I wanted was a space I can still walk out to and finally enjoy. The timeline for completion of this project took a week. JR and his crew were all courteous, considerate, friendly and promptly on time to work. Communication remained key and when I had concerns JR would immediately respond both by phone call and text. They carefully removed a tree, bamboo, a retaining wall, and an old shed (All within really tight corridors since I have a pool in the same area). I recently moved to the area and needed to hire a landscaper to initiate and start ongoing maintenance of my property. I contacted JR Landscaping who immediately responded 7/30 stating that a consultation was needed which was fine. The consultation was conducted and I was quoted $140 for start up maintenance because "everything needed to be redone," but more so the trees needed to be "cut down because they would provide entry for squirrels and rodents into the house." JR stated to me that he would cut down the trees and do the yard restoration for $700.00. I hesitated and told him to start on the yard first and we would discuss the situation of the trees at a later date. JR responded saying he would do a "light trim" of the palm in my backyard (there was one dead leaf hanging" and the grass and bushes. We shook hands and agreed for the work to be done the next morning. I leaving for work, left $140.00 under a yard decoration and took a picture and sent it to JR. About an hour after his scheduled arrival I received a call from him stating that "there wasn't enough money left for the services, only $140." I responded by telling him that's what we agreed and he stated that he had a four man crew there and that they had completely pruned all the trees on the property and that I owed him a total of $700.00. Very upset I begrudgingly paid the entire invoice as I was in fear of him leaving the tree debris in the yard and the possibility of me needing to hire more people to remove the branches. I asked JR to immediately email me a receipt the same day in which he stated he would "do when he got home." He also stated that going forward my fee would be $140 for yard services 2x a month (forgetting he texted me $120.00). This was Wednesday August 2- no receipt was emailed. That Thursday August 3, I texted him again asking for my itemized receipt- no response. Friday the 4th, I called him three times and left him text messages. My boyfriend called in which he finally responded stating that he would "get it to me this weekend." It is now August 9th a week later with no documents or response. These documents are needed for my reimbursement from the realtor whom claimed the yard was cleaned prior to me occupying the house. My advice is to get everything in writing and to be present when all work is conducted! I feel totally taken advantage of especially during the moving process which is stressful enough. This was a predatory situation and I definitely trusted the wrong company. Again as stated the initial quote was for the yard maintenance only, then $700 with the trees included which was not agreed upon. I waited a week to receive a simple receipt/invoice in which I had to constantly reach out to receive. In a professional setting a message or call stating that an email was sent is sufficient which also did not occur. The issue is not the quality of the work, it is the total lack of communication, follow through and communication. read more

We had a larger project, and this was Phase 1. Truly wonderful working with Juan and his team! We vetted four landscaping companies before selecting JR Landscaping. Communication was wonderful, they had a clear understanding of our goals, and then delivered at a fair price. We had a broken irrigation system, had to lay new lines, had clean-up work to prep for further landscaping installation, and sod to lay. An unexpected item came up (beneath the surface of anything visible, the retaining wall concrete foot expanded well into the area we wanted to place sod) Juan gave me great options, made only a minor change to price, and it didn't extend the project at all. All of this was done in a total of 10-11 hours. Additionally, there was a small apple tree we decided to get rid of and Juan just made it happen. Lastly, there were some issues on specific spots in the lawn where previously laid sod (by me) didn't take properly. Juan and team made it happen within the quoted time/price. Freaking great. I'm disappointed that I have to change my review. Juan was extremely helpful when it came to the cleanup and then fixing my sprinklers and adding a timer, and we set up monthly maintenance of my yards. Both jobs totaled $1000 together. Then the storms hit which is understandable that there would be no maintenance service through the storms. I contacted him one time because the yard after all the cleanup was starting to look bad and of course it was still storming off and on with minimal clear days. Juan never replied, so I messaged him again, a little bit angry or this time because I got no response. The response I finally received from him was once it stopped storming He would be in contact and come and start my monthly maintenance. I was frustrated only because after paying out money to have it all cleaned up, it was getting worse than it was the first time. But it was going to have to be done. That conversation was months ago. It started to clear up, and I let one week go by. I thought OK he's got a lot of customers no problem. Then another week, then another week, then a month, two months, three months, so here I sit four months later and have not heard a word from Juan. He has not come by nor has he even tried to contact me. Which now left me having to go through the process once again of finding another landscaper and start all over. I expected better from Juan from the conversations we had when he was here. I was clear from the start that I like my yards clean cut. My other house I had them come every week and the in between week all they had to do was just mow the lawn. Maybe I pissed him off because I said my yard was looking like s&$@ again. But they were.
