I adopted a rescue during Covid and it was very rewarding, but extremely difficult. She had been severely abused and although she is never aggressive or mean, she has issues trusting people. Rightfully so! But she absolutely loves dogs. I couldn't get her into a trainer because they said she needed to start with doggy daycare to socialize her which made sense. We were staying in the Schaumburg area (in town from California) and tried numerous doggy daycares and got rejected. No one would take her in because she was shakey around people. It was heartbreaking because I knew she had so much potential, but didn't know where to take her. When I found Playtime Pup Ranch, it was a good 30 minutes from where we were staying, even though there were so many others near us we had tried, but weren't successful. But so worth the drive! I brought her in for her evaluation, awaited nervously for the call to see how she did, and when it came, I was shocked and overjoyed. They reassured me what I already knew but was starting to doubt, that my Winnie was such a sweetheart and absolutely LOVED dogs! Yes, she didn't care for people as much but they said that will take time and that she absolutely had a home here. We bought a package and I brought her as much as I could while we were home but sadly, we had to return to California a few months later. I still kept her package and when we come home for the holidays, I will absolutely be returning! I hate that we wasted time on other daycares and wish we would have found this sooner, but love that we found Playtime Pup Ranch. I wish we could find an equivalent out in California! The staff is amazing and so so friendly, they put the dogs and their needs first, and the cameras to watch your dog while playing is such a wonderful touch! It was astonishing to me that a dog who loved playing with dogs was getting rejected at doing so. Playtime Pup Ranch gave my sweet girl the chance she deserved and I watched her improve immensely! We have a Bernese Mountain Dog and a French Bulldog - who are obviously very different in terms of both personality and their needs. This past 8 nights, one of her employees Jim stayed overnight in our home with the dogs. He texted me to let me know how things were going regularly and he seemed to genuinely love spending time with the dogs. Our Berner can be stubborn so I typically tell the dog sitters not to walk her, but Jim took both of them on walks daily in order to keep them out of the messy yard. We returned home to 2 calm dogs, without any issues! We joked that the house looks cleaner than when we left - he definitely took care of cleaning up after the messy dogs (which I don't usually expect!) Melissa is great in responding for last minute visits if we are out unexpectedly and now we feel that when it's time for vacation, we can go again without worrying about the dogs!
