Finally found the best BBQ spot in Yuma! As soon as I walked in, the smell of smoked meat hit me right away--in the best way. The pulled pork was juicy with a great smoky flavor. I also tried the tri-tip and brisket--both were tasty, though slightly on the drier side, but the BBQ sauce definitely made up for it. I don't usually order mac & cheese, but it came with my sandwich and I'm glad it did. It was hot, fresh, and really hit the spot. Next time, I'm coming back to try the pork ribs and burnt ends. We love brisket and have ordered it all over traveling the US. Well, we hadn't been to Holy Smokes so this was the day to give it a try. To begin with a partial reason for the stars above was the location and interior design. It is really cute. It looks like a fun place to go and perfect for BBQ. We ordered 1/2 brisket, beans and cole slaw. The food was not up to the hype. What was wrong? After eating there I went back and compared pictures of the brisket others had posted. Theirs appeared to have a good smoke ring and good bark. Ours had no smoke ring and very little bark. Was it cooked too fast? You guessed it --- not good. It was okay but if you go for the brisket, this trip would not have done it. Along with the brisket we wanted to taste the beans and the cole slaw. The beans and cornbread was delicious. The cole slaw had a sharp taste and the cabbage was cut too big. Overall, I was very disappointed. I would have given a 2 star rating but the interior is cute. However, doubt we will ever go back. Wanted to try local bbq for our last night in Yuma. Holy Smokes smells great passing by. I was craving chicken so that's what I ordered with the Mac n' cheese. The food arrived quickly and the side was nice and hot. The chicken was nicely roasted and juicy but no signs of being smoked or grilled. No evidence of a rub or sauce during cooking. The sauce provided was more fruity and no smoke. It seemed like someone had a concept of a thing called BBQ but had never actually had it. Let me talk about the service. My family and I stopped in 30ish minutes before Holy Smokes was set to close (we did not realize they closed at 5 and did NOT mean to be these people). That being said the hostess was amazing and was willing to accommodate us even though they were getting ready to close. We got the family dinner deal and the food was so good. I love a smoked meat and all of the meats on this plate knocked it out of the park. I think the chicken was actually my favorite - so moist and smokey. I also loved the corn bread and mac and cheese. They also have some really cool decor and swing seats which would be great for people with kids who just can't sit still. 10/10 experience and shout out to the staff for accomodating us. This review is for our Last Supper on 4/30/2022. I have raved about the food here (I wrote the first review for this restaurant). However, I don't understand how we could have the experience we had with our Last Supper order made through Doordash. I ordered within the first hour of Holy Smokes opening on a Saturday (between 11-12:00). Our Doordash guy delivered it quickly. First thing I noticed, the tray that the food came in did not feel hot to the touch. When we started to dig into the meats, everything felt about room temp at best. If we ordered right after the restaurant opened, wouldn't one expect everything to be hot off the grill? It just went from bad to worse here. The bbq chicken was tough and dry. The Mac n Cheese wasn't well blended (I could see a lot of the cheese didn't touch some of the macaroni pasta). The sauce topping just sat on top of the dish. My hubby and I thought that despite having placed this order as soon as they opened, we got our foods that were simply warmed by microwaving them. Oh the up side, the brisket was exemplary, even when it was bordering on cold. This experience won't necessarily deter me from ordering the same from Holy Smokes, but I hope today was just a one off. read more

On this rainy day, I walked downtown Yuma. After visiting the shoppes and an art museum I was ready for lunch. The smokin' aroma of BBQ drew me to Holy Smokes. I ordered the Pig-Up Truck sandwich. I appreciated the way it was served, and it looked yummy. However... well, here goes. Although the combination of sweet corn muffin, sweet slaw, and sweet BBQ pork didn't please my palate; the Corona was super cold, and its pleasantly bitter bite much appreciated in contrast to all the sugar. No, I didn't like the meal, but if each of the items had been balanced with other than sweet, the resulting dishes would've been great. So, the food is good. But this combo wasn't. And so, I'll be back. I liked the ambiance and hospitality I found there. Next time, I'll go directly for the meat without the sauce, and order the sides a la carte.
