I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft or hard roll. Extras: Peppers (+.50) Cheese (+.50) - (Turkey is reserved for the "Other Subs). 6 Layers Meat, 1 Layer Cheese --- $8 8 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $9 12 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $12 14 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $13 18 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $14 The subs are heavy and delicious. The Service is ultra friendly. And the atmosphere feels like and Italian Deli-Market. I recommend it.

Side Chic's blows them out of the water along with every other spot in Detroit/Dearborn (Savvy Sliders, Checkers, KFC, Chic Fil A, Chick N Kingz etc.) The breading on the tenders is very, very flavorful. They also put the perfect amount of breading on each tender. I absolutely hate overbreaded tenders where it feels like you're chewing through multiple layers till you hit chicken. Side Chic's avoids this completely by having a nice layer of breading that adds flavor and doesn't distract from the chicken. The chicken itself is hot, juicy and well textured. This is not rubbery, dry chicken. The only other way I can describe it is it just tastes fresh. I was thoroughly impressed. Side Chic's is a carry out spot that's open very, very late (which is awesome). Everyone who works there is incredibly pleasant and helpful. Also, even though the chicken is fresh and made to order, your food comes out in a fairly quick manner. I really can't say enough good things about Side Chic's. Best Chicken Tenders I've had in the Detroit/Dearborn area!

I came recently and the fries, fried pickles, and sauces were all great! The chicken was still okay, but not seasoned the same way as before. Still moist and tender tho. There's was oil all over the boxes though and staining like a seventh (or 14-18%) of the paper bag. That's a lot. The box was dripping oil. There's a small lot but you can park right there. It's right off of Michigan Ave so you really can't miss it but it is very small so you may not know what you're looking for. Just keep an eye out for it. They do have plenty of seats but it's not a full sit-down situation so I don't make it seem like you can bring a table of 20 in . They do have seats to sit in. There are countertops you can stand at but this is more likely a quick bite or to-go kind of situation. Even though there are people who do come in for the lunch break. But it's just basically tables and it's not a lot of frills or bells and whistles but it's still enough to have a bite to eat. The customer service is super nice and I was very taken care of and everybody was super friendly. As far as that goes that is something that has no issue . I ordered and it came pretty fast within 10 minutes so that was good. The service is quick but when I went it wasn't overly packed so that probably helped. Still it was good service and swift service as well . NY club - it was actually really good. It was very large and it got me right for lunch time for quite some time. It was put together very well and it didn't fall apart as soon as I picked it up. Turkey was warm and the sandwich was put together really well and the bacon made it pop . Cajun fries - the fries were crinkle cut and they came cajun seasoned to perfection . Would I go back? I sure would. Good customer service, solid product. Next time I go I'll probably end up getting a corned beef like I wanted to in the first place... There are plenty of options own and not just a sandwich shop... it may not be Coney Island type variety but it does have plenty of variety !

Unfortunately the location in…read moreDearborn Heights just isn't somewhere I go very often so it's been stuck on my list for the longest time. They opened a second branch in East Dearborn recently which finally allowed me to give the subs a try. The restaurant itself is quite small and is mostly a takeout destination. There are only 14 seats in the small dining room, a small fridge stocked with drinks, and the order counter, from which you can see the kitchen. I went in on a very empty weekday lunch and got one item, which took about 10 minutes to come out: Lebanese Sub, Half ($8.99) - They toast this sub well, resulting in a very nice crunch on the exterior. Just be careful eating it - you can pretty easily lacerate your gums if you're not careful! The interior is moist for the most part, with a bit of a mild garlic and mayo mixture that covers all the ingredients. There's a double layer of grilled chicken breast that forms a base layer, followed by some fries that are crunchy on the exterior and fluffy on the interior, and finally a layer of crunchy and acidic pickles. The chicken is the weakest part of the dish - some pieces are overcooked, dry, and tough. It's most noticeable in the thickest areas where there's not enough mayo/garlic to add moisture to the sandwich. Still, overall I found the sub to be good and the ingredients all complemented each other well. Note: The little red tray that they served the sub in smelled heavily of bleach and my first couple of bites had a slight whiff of bleach thanks to that. If you eat here, I would recommend removing the food from the tray before eating. Zaghloul Subs is definitely worth a try.

The food is thoughtful and complex, and unfortunately, that's just not for me. I can see why people enjoy it so much, though. Service was okay. Basically a teen at the register playing on her phone and a cook in the back. I wasn't really offered much of a greeting or an intro to the menu. It's a very limited menu as far as sandwiches are concerned (only six options.) I ordered The Superior minus kimchi with the spicy mayo on the side. I don't believe the menu mentions it, but the sandwich did come with a handful of fries. I took a seat in their cute dining area. It's decorated very nicely. It was a little chilly, though. I noticed a couple tables with trash on them that sat that way during my entire visit (all the while the cashier was on her phone.) Definitely room for improvement there. My sandwich was good; a little sweet for my liking. What I disliked was that there were tiny onions grilled with the steak, and those onions are not on the menu. I'd already wasted my lunch hour finding this spot, figuring out what to order and waiting for my food so I didn't bother saying anything or asking for a re-do. I just ate a few pieces of the steak and packed the rest up for my husband to have as leftovers. The quality of the steak was great and the fries were excellent. So, if you are all about limited menus and lots of ingredients, this might be the spot for you. It wasn't for me.
