Decided to dine in.. super bad slow inattentive service. Most tables around us including ours.. food took extra long. When called over staff indicated they kitchen was busy with online orders and these were given precedence over dine in! I call BS.. then hire more staff and cooks. I'm taking time to get dressed, dine in and tip.. I can go to McDonalds and wait in the drive thru and get faster service. It wouldn't be so bad , but the food and service sucked. I wasn't overwhelmed by Famous Hamburger. I tried the Juicy Lucy, and the reality did not live up to the picture in the menu. It showed the burger practically overflowing with American cheese. This just didn't happen when I tried the burger. The amount of cheese seemed very stingy. Also, the meat itself was very bland. Whenever I try a new hamburger place, I always break off a piece of meat without anything on it. This helps to gauge the quality and flavor of the meat itself. The flavor just wasn't there in this burger. The "special sauce" was thoroughly unmemorable. For a side, I asked the server if the onion rings were breaded or battered. She didn't know, which wasn't a promising sign. I tried the sweet potato fries. They were ok, but again, not very memorable. Overall, I don't think I would go to Famous Hamburger again. The place was pretty full on a Friday Night and the waiter was very nice and helpful being it was our first time in. After a day of work I ordered Famous Burger on DoorDash & I was not disappointed. I ordered the Chipotle chicken wrap with onion rings and a order of Bavarian pretzels. Let me tell you all, this was the best DoorDash order I made in a very long time. Money well spent. The cheese for the pretzels were pipping hot, as if I ordered while I was there. We came in for a bridal shower, and had a large party with us to dine in. Although we weren't able to book a table in advance (they wouldn't allow it), there was plenty of seating when we arrived. We parked in the parking garage nearby, and we're finally able to experience why these burgers were famous. First off, our waitress was amazing. I don't remember her name, but she was absolutely fantastic. They added the top to our total, but I tipped more anyways because she totally deserved it. She was so upbeat and cheerful and made the experience that much more enjoyable. Secondly, I love that we could customize things. I was able to get a lettuce bun instead of hamburger buns, and a salad instead of fries. Although, I did try my daughters sweet potatoe fries and another's onions rings and they were delicious. Last but not least, they have a great menu for children. Everyone oohed and ahhed at my daughters little burger and shake (which I personally thought was too sweet). Famous Hamburger is an institution in the metro Detroit area. While the original location is no longer in business, there are other locations now open (if I am not mistaken more to come). In honor of National Cheeseburger Day, I decided to celebrate with one of their burgers. I chose to go with the Juicy Lucy, since I knew it was going to be stuffed with melted cheese. I had this particular order delivered to me via DoorDash. I was good about dieting up to this point, so I went with the gluten-free bun on this one. I have to say this burger was quite delicious. Patty was juicy, cheese was melty, and despite the bun being a healthier option it didn't sacrifice too much flavor or texture. The beef was a little underseasoned for my liking, but it still tasted good. I do enjoy the fries here as well, and while they do get the job done admittedly they're not the best you'll ever have. There are plenty of other burger competitors around, but Famous always stood out to me as a tried and true establishment, and they do have their loyal followers. I came here for Restaurant Week twice this week. The first time was so good, I had to come back while the deal was still on. I had the bacon cheeseburger with famous sauce, along with waffle fries and a mint chip shake. Let me just say the presentation here is unparalleled for a burger joint. The shakes come out with a beautiful drizzle around the glass and the hamburgers are stamped with the restaurant logo burned into the bun. The burgers are on the large side at 1/3 lb each. Everything tastes fresh. The waffle fries are positively crave-able, as is the mint chip shake, which tastes like an Andes mint turned into ice cream, complete with melty chocolate bits. And just to prove they've thought of all the details, the shakes come with thick straws so that you can actually sip them, unlike so many shake places.
