Tonight I took my husband to celebrate his birthday knowing he is going to have a blast but I was wrong. Let me start by saying we are tourist, originally from ohio and we dont know any good restaurant from here so we only depend on yelp for some recommendations. Yelp didn't dissappoint us wherever I go and since my family arrived here yesterday, we already visited 3 restaurants and we all love their food and services. Until tonight when we dine in at Holston kitchen. Ambiance was nice but service and food is not great. The person who seated us is very nice so I was hoping to be a wonderful dinner. (By the way that 1 star is for the person who seated us.) Let me start with our waitress , her name starts with "A". Before starting ordering, I let "A"knows that its my hubby's birthday. We started ordering our appetizers and drinks and for our entree we both order ribeye and chicken for our daughter. My husband is a steakguy person so he made a comment to our waitress that his steak is bland. My husband said it very nicely to her and told her he will recook the steak at home. But we felt our waitress take it personally and was being defensive, we are not blaming her because she's not the cooking it and it happen sometimes, but since she was there my husband made a comment very nicely. My steak is lil bland and I ask for a medium but my steak is well done. I didnt say anything because I don't want to ruin the night. After what happen, we waited long for A to check on us because we want to order dessert but when she came back she didn't ask anything instead she handed us the bill. We feel so rush and not welcome. It was terrible experience esp. we are celebrating my husband birthday. We will not recommend this place esp if you are celebrating birthdays and we wont be back. read more

The atmosphere was nice, all servers were wearing a mask and were pleasant. The food was okay. I would not be coming back. We ordered the ribeyes and they were under seasoned and had a lot of fat and cartilage. My husband ordered the smoky bear burger. He thought it was an okay burger. French fries were really good. Our waitress was great. Ask for Ivory but the food was terrible and basic. My ribs were inedible which is something I didn't realize until I got home. They were so dry and tough I just gave up and threw them away. I couldn't even pull the meat apart at all with my hands. Just terrible read more

Visited for the first time on 30 Dec 2023 around 5:30 pm Eastern, and wound up sitting at the bar. There was a little bit of a wait for a table, but the bar was wide open. "Gloria" was our waitress/bartender and was great; as in I'd sit at the bar again if she was working great. She handled the guests at the bar, and the wait staff coming to her for drinks like she was conducting an orchestra. Food was good, portions were healthy, came out in a very reasonable time frame with a full restaurant; and all of the staff were friendly and attentive, while not being overly intrusive. We had a wonderful experience at Holston's on Saturday March 2, 2024 around 2 p. We were seated immediately and the dining rooms appeared to be 90% filled. I noticed a few minutes later there was a couple of people waiting to be seated. The food was great and everyone in our group of four commented on how tasting it was. We started with fried pickle chips. There was plenty for us. I ordered the Ruben and homemade potato chips. The sandwich was portioned well and the chips were plentiful. My wife ordered a salad and chips spinach/ artichoke dip, which were enough for two. She ended up taking a little of each home. The others in the group got a hamburger and chicken. There were no complaints from anyone in our group. Our server was friendly and quickly refilled drinks. Meal prices were reasonable. The dining room atmosphere was pleasant. Food wasn't bad, but the server was rude. Our water glasses were literally gritty on the outside and the server tried to talk down to my wife (poor move) about how "that's just the way they come out of the dishwasher". My wife then asked if the plates would be that way. We got served on aluminum trays. Looking through all the pics on yelp, I didn't see another tray. Maybe I'm reading into it, I don't know. This may be the first or second time I ever gave a review. They seem not to care because they just survive off tourists which we are and will never be back. This was one of the worse meals and experiences we have ever had. The tomato goat cheese soup was oily, how? The crab cakes were disgusting, I had brisket and ribs, got nothing but the cap of the brisket so nothing but fat, no meat. ribs--could not get the meat off the bone but the outside was nice and hard and dry. We each had a crab cake and only took a bit but when plates were cleared full of food the server never asked if it was ok, really? 50% of the ribs were left but no concern. I guess the servers are afraid to ask how your food is because they know the answer. We did not complain and left, again we are not from here and won't be back in the area so this review is not in hopes of compensation but to save the next tourist from a horrible meal. read more

The friend green tomatoes were delicious but that was about it. The steaks were over cooked and thin. The chicken wasn't chewable and extremely rubbery. We waited on our water for at least 20 minutes. Management was very nice when they came to check on us. I gotta rant a little, because the experience was just not a great one. Basically, we went out for my wife's birthday and our server was our issue. Guy was rude to us several times before ordering. Talking about "I'm not an idiot, I've been serving 13 years I'm not gonna have your apps and entrees come out at the same time." And when we were talking together rushed us to order and said "okay, are we ordering or what?"Okay jerk. He brings out drinks out with the exclusion of mine. No big deal. A runner comes and brings me a drink, I confirm with her my drink and she agrees. We're comparing drinks and came to the conclusion it was not the drink I ordered. Our server comes back, and puts the correct drink on the table. I drink it, and he realizes it and I explain the situation. He asks us "how can we make this disappear." Basically, y'all screwed up and you want to take my drink back. No that's, a communication issue. Several levels prior to hitting the table and it didn't get fixed. Whatever, it's a drink. But the fact Dillion(Dylan) wanted to take my drink back is stupid. MIL has a sensitivity to gluten and was given the wrong order. Guy questions her and asks if she's GF or celiac. Next issue, don't question the health condition of a person. Rude, yet again. My wife's steak as also a blue steak, she will eat a rare steak all day long but marked as a med rare and got a blue steak. He mixed up our checks which was fine, but charged us for the drink mistake? No, also wrong. For someone who's been serving over a decade there was a lot of inexperience of his part. I've eaten at Holstons in Sevierville, TN twice before and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ate there 9-9-24 and I was extremely disappointed. I had the country fried steak and mashed potatoes. The steak was fried to a crisp. Couldn't hardly cut it with a knife, then couldn't chew it. The chunks of potato were not done. The fried okra was soggy. The loaded potato soup was good as well as the Avocado Fiesta. But the entree- I would have been happier with a happy meal. I will not be returning. read more

Loved our first time here! It's just off the main thoroughfare as you are coming into Sevierville from interstate 81. We had a party of 7, on a Friday night at 6. The place was packed but we didn't wait for more than 5 minutes. It's a big space inside and they can handle larger parties of people as well. Our table has some picky eaters in it as well as teenagers and kids but everyone found something really good to eat. My dad and I both ordered the open faced roast beef which was on Texas toast with mashed potatoes, gravy and these somewhat salty fried onions. You also got another side with your meal, which was still around $15. A real deal for sure for the great food! We ordered the fried pickles which were chips sliced thin and delicious. My sister and I gobbled then down while waiting on everyone else to join us. Highly recommend and we'll be back when we're in the area again. Holston's - what has happened? We usually eat here on every trip to the area. It will be a long time before we eat here again. The prices have gone up (yes, I understand), the quantity and quality have gone down tremendously. We were not offered the bread that usually comes with the meal. When it did arrive, it had been microwaved and was hard. Our server told us she would bring more when it came out of the oven. That didn't happen! I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken with rice. I had to send it back TWICE!! The rice was hard, as in uncooked (or old) both times. I then substituted for mashed potatoes. One small scoop in a "monkey bowl". It looked mighty puny on the LARGE dinner plate. This meal was $15!! Hubby got the Chicken Parmesan. The Alfredo sauce was completely unseasoned. There was no taste of parmesan on the plate. We went to the Sevierville location for our anniversary dinner. What an amazing place! Fast, friendly service. We had a super awesome waitress. I wish that I remembered her name to give her kudos here. I had the 12 ounce ribeye, salad and baked potato. Steak was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. Salad was cold and fresh. My wife had the fish with a salad and sweet potato. The waitress suggested a caramel sauce for the potato which she said was phenomenal. My husband and I were in Gatlinburg for vacation. After reading several reviews and really not wanting to deal with Gatlinburg traffic; we chose this steak house. There was a 10 min wait when we arrived, so we chose to sit at the bar and have a drink. The bartender was very friendly and efficient. We then chose to sit at a booth in at the bar so she could wait on us. We both ordered the Rib Eye with steamed broccoli ( he also had a baked potato). We both commented on how how delicious our steaks were and we loved the little side salad that came with the meal. We also tried the fried tomatoes because we never had them before and they didn't disappoint. The prices are comparable to what we're used to paying at home. The servings were generous. And Mrs. W. in her sweater, and I in my hoodie, knew finding something to eat was our first and only duty. When, what to my Yelp search did appear? Holston's Kitchen--a restaurant within our sphere. With a little old lady answering the phone, I knew at that moment, we would no longer be eating alone. Arriving at the address, lo did it appear, a restaurant that clearly was obviously quite near. Our waitress was fast, our grub she dost named, she whistled, and shouted, and called it by name: "Now burgers! Now salads! Now, fries and steaks! On, tenders! On, sandwiches! On, seafood and cakes! Somewhat of an average experience. Our appetizers were good. We ordered the brisket egg rolls and fried green tomatoes. I would recommend both. However, the dinner rolls were clearly not homemade. I'm certain they got them from a food purveyor.... As far as entrees, I ordered a ribeye. It was cooked to a perfect medium, and had decent flavor, but the cut was overly chewy. I expect that out of a sirloin, but a ribeye should be more tender. My sweet potato was good. My wife's sirloin was overcooked. The chimichurri butter that was on top of our steaks was too salty, and tasted as if it had too much garlic. The salads were iceberg based, primarily the heart of the iceberg, but I ordered a Caesar. A Caesar should only be romaine. Our friend ordered a southwest chicken salad as her entree, and she literally said it was the worst salad she ever had at a restaurant. Not a terrible experience, but it was lack luster. I might go back to try something else one day, but there a lot of other steakhouses I'd probably try first. read more
