Holiday has been on my radar for the past 6-9 months, thanks to local influencers on Instagram. The thing I love about following these influencers is I am always able to take my wife places that are new or up and coming. On a mid-February afternoon date with the Mrs., we finally made to 7th Street and Shady Lane - and boy is this place a winner! From the outside, you can tell this place is different from others in this area. Holiday has been thoughtfully designed with a clean - but not-too-modern - look and lines. It is open, airy and (since it was winter) their heaters and fireplaces completed the intimate feel with comfy seating clusters. Once inside, this is where the vibe really comes together. The bar area and interior are simple and beautiful with both ambient and natural lighting backlighting the bar in a nice way. While they were pretty busy, it was a nice chill vibe - including our introduction to Erin, one of the co-owners. Erin talked to us and made us feel welcome and we discussed a few drinks - not knowing she is a brains behind their drink menu. She was a delightful host and after the fact, we found out why. Looking for a place that's open late and has some nibbles and drinks this is your place. It's located right off 7th Street at the intersection with Shady Lane. There are a few parking spots in front and a side lot with a few more spots. An empty lot is right next to Holiday so there's some overflow street parking as well. There are two outdoor sections one in the front and one in the back. The interior has lots of tables too. When i arrived the parking lot was filled to the brim but there were still many tables available. So don't let the lack of parking spots deter you. Seating is first come first serve. No need to make reservations. We came around 8 pm on a Wednesday and we were able to find a good table outside. Since it was a warm evening, we had a couple of cocktails. I started with a Heart Like Wheel which was an easy to drink bourbon-based cocktail. A very refreshing and bright stone fruit flavored drink. My second drink was the popular Frozen Mexican Martini. The drink is just what you would expect with the briny taste of olive juice! We had a couple of dishes as well to satisfy our hunger. The Holiday Shrimp Cocktail had 6 jumbo shrimp and two dipping sauces. The Lonestar Steamed Mussels were hearty. The mussels were large and meaty and the liquor was buttery and was soaked up with a side of bread and an order of fries. Speaking of the fries, real alioli not that mayonaise. I really felt like I was on Holiday coming here. Can't wait to come back and try the Olive Cake. read more

This was a really cute and solid spot. My standouts were the Virgo's Grove cocktail and the olive oil cake. Also really loved the cashew onion dip! The zucchini fritters were good, although I wish there was more zucchini flavor and less starch, the anchovies were interesting to try, and the mussels - the beans and sauce were great, but I think we had a lot of bad mussels. For some reason on the day we went, the interior had an awful smell (like a bathroom... in retrospect, wondered if it was the mussels?) so we opted for outside seating even though it was pretty hot. Fortunately, there are fans and misters around to help with that. They also put a spinner on the table to help keep away flies. I think the outdoor would be a great spot in the cooler weather. read more

The vibes here are chefs kiss. Server was friendly and accommodating. They serve small bar bites but they are done very well and are unique and interesting. Cocktails were absolutely fantastic. The most beautiful space located in my fave part of Austin, E Austin. Holiday has the perfect outdoor patio to enjoy during these cool fall months. They also have outdoor fans that make it enjoyable during warmer months. Their Sunday half price martini special can't be beat. My personal favs are the dirty vodka martini and frozen Mexican martini. They also have small bites available such as olives, nuts and gulf crab deviled eggs. Highly recommend this space! read more

It's highway robbery. The prices are not commensurate with the quality. I got a $26 chicken schnitzel and it was basically just one fried chicken breast that all in all was tasty but for that price I expect more, like some sides or two chicken breasts or something exceptionally unique. The espresso martini was $16 and it came in a thimble. It was your run of the mill espresso martini; again, for that price I expect more. Holiday has a first come, first serve policy so no waiting list or reservations. I think it could really use a waiting list at least because, on crowded days, people will just stand around in the walkways and suddenly the whole place is congested because it's not a huge place. They have lots of outdoor seating but not enough cover for when it rains (they have some kitschy triangle tarps but they're permeable). So when it rains and they have to move people inside and all the people hovering for the next spot have to wait inside as well, it feels like you're dining in a packed gas chamber. When we got our table, the table top was cleaned but the floor was not so we had squashed French fries and other food under our feet which for a place with these price points and ambiance seems half-assed. We also had two waiters competing for us where one would beat them to an order then the other would come ask the same question while we were waiting so there was also a lack of coordination. Overall, I'm not impressed and it's not worth it. I can't recommend it and I don't see myself going back. read more

For a place that has only been open for two weeks, they already have their act together. The entire place is open and beautiful along with delicious food and excellent drinks. Every staff member was friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic, and we were fortunate enough to be under the care of our server Maggie. We started with some cocktails which were utterly amazing and ordered a luscious shrimp cocktail, fries and succulent mussels in a gorgeous broth that we soaked up with grilled sourdough and couldn't have been happier. Due to its being in East Austin, the parking can be a hassle, but this place's vibe is worth it, and we will undoubtedly return. read more

Super cute new space on E 7th Street. Came with a girlfriend for a quick drink and ended up staying for 3 hours in the back, outdoor patio enjoying the vibe, drinks and food. I love the food options, very happy hour friendly and a great variety. We loved the Zucchini Fritters (which were divine!) and the Cashew Onion Dip. Cocktails were great too, we had quite a few to try out but my favorite was the Heart Like A Wheel, and my friend loved the Frozen Mexican Martini - couldn't stop raving about it! Service was great, staff was attentive and very dog friendly. Decor is super cute, very chill vibes - perfect spot to hang out and have a few cocktails and bites. Will be back! read more

I went for a social event, so it was a little different than had I just gone to the bar for fun. However, it was such a vibe! We were out on the patio, and they had those fans the mist you (a must in this new fangled extreme global warming heat) and once the sun went down it was very chill. The drinks were GOOD and the food was too! I had a 1929 and a Virgo's Groove which both tasted like they were drinks pulled straight from a garden. We had moved from inside to outside once our event started, but the staff was very nice throughout and made paying very easy. Only 4 stars because it was very expensive, so it's not somewhere I'd go when I wanted to have multiple (3+) drinks. read more

They had a few different options to try, and I ordered the Negroni but will definitely want to try their other options. Then we had a full dinner with lots of nibbles. Great experience! Really enjoyed the cocktails and the snacks. Favorites: frozen Mexican martini, Strawberry Switchblade, and cheese plate with homemade jam. Also, the staff is extremely nice and make sure all their guests are taken care of. Very clean and enjoyable atmosphere, but we didn't feel we got exactly what we ordered with our cocktails. My wife ordered a regular Mexican martini. They brought us a margarita. Then, my wife told the girl she would just have the frozen Mexican Martini since they brought us the wrong drink. She came back with the same margarita and said they just added the olive juice because that's all that is different between a margarita and Mexican martini. But it was in the same glass. It was disappointing because it still tasted like a Margarita. I just wish they would have just brought us what we asked for. Martinis should be served in a martini glass and her drink was presented as a Margarita with ice. For as much as they charge for cocktails, you would think they would know how make and present drinks. It was disappointing that there was not much care to make things right, especially for a new business. read more
