The "beach" is made up of large white limestone rocks which can make it tricky to set up for the day, but this is what keeps most other people out. :) Bring your own shade as there are NO large trees or shaded picnic areas. A beach umbrella can be set up near the water and a pop-up shade tent can be set up-at a level picnic table. There is a small, brick-sided restroom house on the premises. The best part about this park? IT'S FREE! There is no fee for using the lake area or the boat ramp. But, shhhhh! Don't tell everyone. :)

It's comforting to find a space that hasn't been thrashed by visitors and well maintained to allow for nature to do its glorious thing. BEST shelter and park we have been to yet. We are extremely impressed! We rented shelter #5, it overlooks the lake and is across the way from the bathrooms, huge plus (I love camping, but don't hover well haha). The restrooms were so so, nothing special, but better than peeing behind a tree. Same goes for the showers, nothing special, but I loved that they were private, offered hot water, and had a little sink in the stall. The shelter itself was amazing! We have never been to a park where the shelters have tarps to cover the screened areas. You can tie them up or lock them down, perfect for privacy or blocking out the wind on cold nights. We also brought a lock to lock the shelter while we were away, but with multiple gates to get to the shelters we felt very safe. We came in late and left early, so we unfortunately did not get a chance to interact with the park host or other employees. But they were very friendly and helpful when I called asking for information. Overall I am very impressed, I don't think I can express that any more clearly. We will definitely be back and are already looking at our calendar! We need to get our canoe out here!

Those are narrow and the grass is high in those sections so keep that in mind. There are some nice canopy areas with trees that go over the path providing shade. This seems like a park you'd go early in the morning to walk. Parking was scarce. We found a tiny lot near the entrance so be aware. It is also dog friendly. Pretty much dirt trails, so after rains, it can get muddy, but we are in Texas, so that only happens occasionally. You can get several miles in on the various trails. Others are friendly and willing to point you in the right direction. I've been here a couple of times now and enjoyed both times. I do recommend hiking with someone else in case of emergencies. You never know when you might come across a snake, so be safe!

This was my first time here, so I wasn't sure where to go. The road that goes around & over the dam is closed until Aug 2024, so I just took the only other option. I ended up at the boat launch, and it's a great place for pics! Plenty of ducks & pretty scenery! Not too many people on the lake or in the campground, but it definitely looks like a nice place to spend a relaxing weekend & drop a line in the water!
