One time I jumped in the water at Lady Bird Lake, and I got morbidly ill for days and could not get out of bed. I would highly not recommend getting in the water there. That being said, Lake Georgetown is quite different and it would seem that the water is pretty clean there. It probably goes without saying it is much less crowded than Lake Austin/Travis or anything near downtown, and it has plenty of space for picnicking, camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Usually I will go running around Lake Georgetown because it is much less crowded than Lake Austin, and there are shorter routes depending how far you want to run. I guess the one thing I will say is that the trails to "hike" or walk around the lake are not as established as some other hiking trails I've been on, so just be prepared for that and maybe don't wear short shorts if you're going to try any hikes around the lake.

They have basketball courts that are underneath canopies, so the sun don't get into your eyes or overheat, you. It's a nice little shaded area, but mainly because it's right next to the river, which makes it very cozy and a good place to have a snack or a picnic. My 18-month-old hasn't been mouthing stuff as much lately so we gave it a go. He did OK but eventually did put a pebble in his mouth. The pebbles are also tricky to walk on. They get really hot so water shoes or sandals help. The pebbles will then inevitably get inside your shoes and annoy your feet. Bathrooms were reasonably clean. Pretty large parking area. $5 day use fee. Paying was a bit awkward since we had to scan a QR code, park and pay, and then go show the guy that we paid. Don't know if this is temporary due to some malfunction. Cool having a beach option relatively close, even if it's not sand. I believe there may be some hiking and camping at this particular park as well but I only came here for the beach.

The park also features rentable covered picnic pavilions, which serve as great gathering places for family reunions, company picnics and other get-togethers. In addition, there is a large playground and guests are permitted to ride horses on the premises. The only times I have been here are with Things Ones' troop to go camping. There are many sites for rent to go camping here. When camping, visitors may come into close contact with deer and other wildlife. Although there can at any point be many visitors to this park, visitors will feel there is enough room to breath which is a welcomed change in this area of Central TX that has become a boom town. #bewellcentraltx

The trail…read morethat runs over the dam is all paved (not sure how far it continues being paved since we turned around). Lots of pedestrians, bikers, dog walkers. You can also walk on the unpaved trail along the water (it's very smooth and stroller-friendly). There is a playground. It's split into two areas for different ages. It's great in theory but I found it a bit lacking. There's a rudimentary playground that's labeled as 2-5. And a crunk playground (3-tiered, with gnarly slides) labeled as 5-12. Don't get me wrong -- this big playground is awesome for older kids. But it's a bit too advanced/scary for a 3-year-old. Meanwhile, the little playground was too simple/easy for her. So there's a middle age that isn't really catered to. But, great for 2-year-olds and 5+. There are also multiple parks with playgrounds within a short driving distance (Champion, Olson Meadows) so you can easily park hop.

The splash pad has a dedicated fenced in area for the water fun, and a nice grassy area with tables and seating. Perfect for a picnic! If you're adventurous you can rent a canoe or kayak from the boathouse and take it out onto the lake as well. This park is a beautiful place to spend time on a weekend!

There are some much apprecieated shade awnings here but you can also walk off the side of the platform and venture down the rock cliff path. There is a way to get to the water but I wouldn't recommend it. The cliff is steep and I'm not even sure how the one guy I saw got down there with his dog. There are boats that go by creating wakes as well. Off in the distance there is the dam. As for bathrooms we passed one as we walked down to the water and there are a few awnings for shade which I was grateful for in the heat. The temperature goes up as you rise back up to the parking lot which is a bit small. It's a nice walk.
