Heads up -- this is a pebble beach. So, it's not great for babies or small toddlers. Just call it "Choking Hazard Beach." My 18-month-old hasn't been mouthing stuff as much lately so we gave it a go. He did OK but eventually did put a pebble in his mouth. The pebbles are also tricky to walk on. They get really hot so water shoes or sandals help. The pebbles will then inevitably get inside your shoes and annoy your feet. Bathrooms were reasonably clean. Pretty large parking area. $5 day use fee. Paying was a bit awkward since we had to scan a QR code, park and pay, and then go show the guy that we paid. Don't know if this is temporary due to some malfunction. Cool having a beach option relatively close, even if it's not sand. I believe there may be some hiking and camping at this particular park as well but I only came here for the beach. read more

Campsite 11 was such a great site, it a cabin that sits right across from the restroom facilities and the camp host, actually most of the sites for overnight camping are within close proximity. Like all the other Georgetown Lake campgrounds I've visited this past month check in 3pm and out by 2pm. Unfortunately I wasn't able to hike because it stormed like crazy my entire stay with was unfortunately because they just lifted the burn ban and I was ready to fire up some smores! The sites also come with a grill and picnic tables. Beautiful view of the lake but due to low visibility I couldn't enjoy it. These campgrounds do NOT come with electricity or running water so keep that in mind. I did have a generator so I brought that along:) The cabin came with lantern hooks and 2 wooden beds but NO bed padding. It's a screened cabin and it's hard to see through when on the outside looking in so it does offer some privacy but can still feel as though people can see you. Parking is also on the side street no driveway pull in's nor are Rv's or pop up trailers allowed this is a tent or cabin campground. Yes I will definitely be back when the rain is long gone so I can enjoy a good campfire! read more

Great beach access area to Lake Georgetown-we really love coming here. $5 per car to get in if you're headed to swim. Plenty of parking, but this place does fill up super fast so I'd plan to get there early. The beach is made of small pebbles that can get super hot during the day, so bring the swim shoes with you. You'll get a leg workout walking around for sure! If you get there early enough, you can set up close to the water. They do have picnic tables a little further back that do have shade, but bring your own tent if you have one along with weighted bags or something to tie it down with. It can get windy. Water is great, they keep the park pretty clean, and overall just a fun time. Definitely recommend! read more

Nice beach access area to swim in Lake Georgetown. The beach is made of small pebbles and they get hot and are rough on the feet after a while. Definitely recommend wearing swim shoes. On a summer weekend day, it has tendency to reach max occupancy, so should plan for that. read more

OK, it's late May in Texas, and officially not hiking weather. That said, my friend, her two dogs, and I ventured out to check out the hike around Lake Georgetown. There are at least three different parks with trails around the lake. It's really very enjoyable, but you've got to start early, before the heat of the day sets in. And I know I'm going to sound like a mom (but that's OK because I am one): wear sunblock, spray your feet and legs with bug spray to prevent chiggers, and carry twice as much water as you think you'll need. Oh and also, wear a hat. If you follow these simple mom-isms, I think you'll have a great time walking around this lake. We crossed paths with several other hikers. Everyone was friendly and clearly enjoying the scenic trails. Let me know if you check this place out and if you like it as much as I did. Happy hiking! read more

Finding a last minute camping spot within a quick drive from Austin can sometimes be a challenge, especially during the best springtime weekend camping dates. That's why I was so pleasantly surprised that our Cub Scout pack was able to snag a fantastic group camping spot only 1 month in advance in mid-April on the north side of Lake Georgetown at Russell Park. We were able to easily accommodate 20 families (50 people total, $75/night) with room to spare at the wooded Group Shelter #2, which has a short trail to access the lake, in addition to a large covered pavilion with 10 power outlets, 2 big grills, a fire ring, a freshwater faucet, and latrines (his & hers) that were shared with the adjacent Group Shelter #1. The lake access from this part of the park is not really suitable for swimming (the boys did some fishing & rock-skipping there), but there is a boat ramp and swim beach on the other side of the park where the rest of the individual campsites and day-use shelters can be found, as well as the full bath-houses with showers. Individual tent camping spots are only $12/night and screened shelters are $24/night. Day use passes for the swim beach or boat ramp access are $4 per vehicle. Always a great time to come here, but sometimes the local "host" is not as responsive to your needs. Example. On a holiday weekend we had a large group of Scouts camping. One site was raucous and loud and disrespectful. They were approached and asked to have fun but tone it down kindly. They did not, the language continued and the music did as well. Another adult from another site approached and said the same thing; same results. We approached the campground host and they asked "what do you want me to do? Call the police?" we responded "yes" if that is what YOU should need to do. All in all, WE had to call the Sheriff's Department to settle down the adults and young kids that were enjoying their holiday way too much. *note* I am not a prude, but there needs to be reasonable respect for others when here, As it proceeds to after 10 and 11pm there needs to be a cutoff and the site host was of no help. read more

Plenty of water to paddle board on over here. You will see motorized vehicles since it's close to a boat launch, so be careful. It does cost to get in. Also bring your own shade and water. The water in the bathrooms weren't working. read more

Russell Park was perfect for a family Sunday outing. It's only $5 per vehicle to enter the park, so not only is it great for the family, but very affordable. There is a place for you to park within walking distance of shaded picnic tables and the "beach." The beach is rocky, so I highly recommend shoes for everyone. We set up right by the water and had a heck of a time. Only downfall is no shade, so bring your own! The water is the perfect temp for a hot summer day. read more

Haven't been to the other parks in Lake Georgetown, so can't compare. Swimming area is nice and wide, so even if there's a lot of people there's plenty of space to swim. If you want a shaded picnic area, come early (before 9:30 on weekends/holidays). Beach area is pebbled. Restrooms and showers are available, although they aren't the cleanest (but they work). There is a little bit of trash and beer caps, so I'd recommend not going barefoot until you get close to the water. Good fishing area if you walk about 10-15 minutes right of the swimming area. read more

Beach area is pretty good. The rangers and volunteer group are rude though. Pets are not allowed, which sucks. There are some people that leave their trash around, which is nasty. read more

I had such a fun time camping here this past weekend!! I rented a cabin and the bunk beds were perfect. Trees were sturdy enough to put the hammocks on. I'd recommend bringing a broom just to sweep the cob Webb's / dirt out of the room. Can't wait to be back in summerr read more

It was my first time here. Very affordable place and a nice place to get away from the city. The restrooms and the cabins had so many bugs so if you're scared of them like me bring raid or bug spray to kill them and a broom to dust the cabins. A man sprayed both restrooms with raid and killed all the bugs because people avoided going in. The cabins do not have electricity but the breeze felt so good at night. The hiking trail is not too long and not too short. Dogs are allowed but not in the beach area so if you plan on swimming there do not bring your dogs. However the trail takes you to water and they can enjoy the water there. read more

The new way to pay is a huge hassle. They won't take cash, debit or credit you have to do a QR code no other choice. And it compromised my credit card and I immediately had got calls from my credit union's fraud protection. So it's not a safe site. read more

Great park but this new pay system is a joke. They have you pay online but the bar code you scan never works for my iPhone. Internet doesn't come in often so good luck paying. Also for kayakers you can't park near the boat ramp where everyone parks with boats even though there's always tons of parking there. They say unless you have a boat trailer you can't park there. read more

This campsite is clean and has a nice small lake, on a busy day not so good as there are many boats out there. Location from Austin is great for a short camping trip. Negative is campsites are very close together and it's not monitored at night so unfortunately, we ended up beside two barking dogs on one side and a party group who partied into the night on the other. read more

First time here but well worth a return visit. Campsite very clean. NO ants seen anywhere! Easy parking. Hot hot hot showers - 3 in the men's restroom! Good solid roof over the picnic table which is on a good size concrete slab. Reasonable distance from fellow campers at my campsite. A bit closer at other campsites. Nice basic cabins available for those with young children. Richard the Gate Attendant (there wasn't a Camp Host at this time of year - April) was very helpful. I had neighbors who ran a generator until 1:15am as well as music that started at 11pm. I hadn't complained but was going to when Richard showed up and took care of the problem. And did I mention how quiet it was? Perfect place to chill. Might not be so quiet during the busy summer so come out of season to really relax. You won't be disappointed. And tell Richard I sent ya!
