This park is extremely well kept and clean. There are various restrooms along the trail paths which are clean. The trails vary in length which is great for kids. Pet friendly so long as they are on a leash. There is a day fee for accessing the park but it's well worth it. read more

I had the pleasure of spending a two-night camping trip here. I went Wed-Fri to avoid the traffic over the weekend. I paid $32 for a walk-in campsite. On my first visit, I was impressed by all the amenities, the well-maintained common areas and campgrounds, and the interpretive center. I was given a paper map with details about the park, trails, and points of interest, similar to what you'd get from a Texas state park. I was the only person in the walk-in tent camping area when I went. Each campsite is no further than 200 yards from the parking lot. There's a communal water station and a pair of pit toilets. Unfortunately, the lights didn't work at night, but I had a headlamp to make it work. There weren't any sinks in this restroom, but a pump for hand sanitizer and toilet paper were provided. Firewood is available for purchase at $10 for a cubic foot. A dolly is available to help cart the wood back to your campsite. I drove to the RV campground to brush my teeth and check out the facilities there. The restroom was clean, with showers available. The area was well-lit at night, and I never felt unsafe. However, I want to mention that I did hear a pack of coyotes a couple of times at night, so be sure to pack up all your food in your car before you sleep. As far as I know, the coyotes never came into my campsite or the other campsites of RV'ers who visited during the same time. There is a day-use area with a pavilion, a horseshoe toss court, and charcoal grills. The extensive hiking trail system requires a couple of days to fully explore. The interpretative center is a good stop if you have kids or are interested in learning more about the park. A highlight is the Porcupine Hill Overlook, which has a beautiful view of the park and hill country. You can see parts of Liberty Hill in the distance to the north. A day pass per adult is $4, cheaper than nearby state parks. I could return here for a long day hike. read more

Only three years old !! Everyone needs to come and enjoy this stunning park !!! You just need to close your eyes and click your heels and look around and you won't feel like you're in Texas anymore. You could be on vacation anywhere!!! Today On Porcupine hill I saw my first porcupine as well as deer and jackrabbits in the park. The staff at the gate was delightful and made the visit even more memorable. We cannot wait to return again. This has become one of our favorite Texas destinations read more

Lovely stay over the holiday! Really great camping experience here. We rented an Improved Camping site for our 30 ft RV with electric and water hook up. there was a dumping station at the park but not at the individual camp sites, I liked that. We arrived to a zen garden raked sandy spot with picnic table, fire pit enclosed, and lantern holder-handicapped accessible. a beautiful view from spot 5, several other campers stopped at our site to snap pics of our view during the stay. Amazing walking trails, well kept roads / clean and modern facilities, there was firewood for sale, dog walking bag stations, and clear signage through the park. This spot and the park staff / camp host were very friendly, cool people and present - not in your business but there for anything you may need. We spent 10 days here and it felt like our home away home right away. Near by enough, to lots of possible shopping and commerce opportunity, we even had some door dash food delivered at one point, and another order from Lowe's but the park and the experience truly is tucked away in this sweet spot. read more

Visited 10 days after grand opening, July 2023, this park will soon be a hotspot. 3 lots total with ample amount of parking in all. Visited on a Saturday and was the only vehicle in two of the lots. It does cost to get in, but they do accept credit cards. At the time of entry it was $4 for adults. Large variety of trails. Beginner friendly as most were flat, but some were long. The map was well crafted and easy to follow. I would say more signage definitely is needed as I got to point of interest number nine, there was nothing to be established that I had made it. Literally, it was just a rough patch of grass. The improved camping includes 24 lots all with a picnic table and a grill. All were vacant at the time of visit, except one. Overall the park is well maintained and up kept because it is brand new. read more

We didn't get to explore much here before having to turn back. Like one of the previous reviewers there were confusing signs for the trails. We accidentally stumbled onto the main center. The bathrooms were clean tho. And yes those stairs are really high. It was too hot to travel too much more as there's no canopy on the trail, or at least the one we were on. I did get to see some horses which was cool though. I'll try again in cooler weather. read more

First the good stuff - We saw a flock of wild turkey just off the Prairie Trail (about 20-30). They flew in across the meadow and lighted just at the tree-line. We also saw a bald Eagle. At first we were sure it was a Caracara because it was perched near a culture, but as we got closer it became clear it was an eagle. The interpretive center is very nice. Be careful if you walk out front though as what looks like steps is a ledge. Not sure how that passed inspection, as it needs railing. I was told I am not the first person to step off of it by mistake. Nice camping areas. There are three levels of Camping. 1. Full hook-ups. 2. Drive-up and walk in. 3. Hike in (although the hike is only 1/2 mile on a well maintained dirt road. We decided to make reservations for next month at one of the drive-up/walk-in sites to see how it is. Restrooms - Squeaky clean. Main facilities are perfect. There are also several pit toilets throughout the park. Nicest pit toilets I have ever encountered. Nice play ground near a large pavillion. The Bad: We hiked 6 miles of "trails" today. I can't say whether or not the rest of the park is this way, but every inch of the six miles we hiked was on very well maintained dirt roads. All but a couple of places could be traversed by a Honda Prius. So, not really trails. The trail signs. We joked that whoever created these signs had never hiked a day in their life. We even gave them a name - "The Trail Riddler". Because 1/2 of the signs were truly a riddle to figure out. The poop: This is an equestrian park that allows pedestrians to hike the trails. To be fair, not every trail allows horses. Because of all the horse poop, no one is really inclined to pick up their dog poop. So you get to deal with both. Verdict - We will be going back again. Will be camping this time and we will knock off the remaining 14 miles of "trails". I will update this review once I have completed all the trails. BoR read more

Just on the outskirts of Liberty Hill resides this enormous park of over 1300 acres. It's been under construction for many years and it finally opened July 22, 2023. This park has all the bells and whistles, except for a pool. There are some day use pavilions and play scapes with plenty of picnic tables and grills on the property. This is a great place to hike and bike along paved trails and unpaved trails. Apparently, you can even bring horses on the property, but there are some restrictions. This county park has lots of parking and plenty of bathrooms available. There is both primitive and improved camping in case you want to bring your RV or just a tent. This is definitely a nice quiet place in the country if you want to get away from the city noise. The entry fee is four dollars per person but it's cheaper if you're military. This is such a beautiful park, that can be enjoyed by humans, dogs, and horses. My husband and our two dogs love the variety of trails, and splashing in the creek that winds along and through several of the trails. If you plan to come often, it's worth it to get the annual pass, which gets you access to the park for hikes, but also gets you discounts on reserving the pavilion. But if you just want to check it out, the day pass is affordable and allows you to leave for lunch and come back for additional trail time. As someone who suffered a back/leg injury, it's been a relief to have access to trails that are easier while rebuilding my strength and stamina to take some of the steeper and longer paths. Make sure to pack your own water, sunscreen, and any snacks you might need, because they do not have these for purchase at the entrance. It's also very well cared for; I went on a hike a couple of days after some storms, and a few trails were closed at the trailhead while they completed clearing the fallen brush/tree branches, while other places I've been do not close trails, so you find out the hard way if it's impassable.
