I usually get the hojicha with sea cream and that blends really well with boba. They also hand make their boba fresh so you can tell the consistency and chewiness is guaranteed every visit. Been here twice, tried coming thrice, but it was closed. Hoji is a gem that I've found in Redlands. I live more towards LA bound, so I have had my experience with plenty of tea spots that are of good quality and overall a 5/5. Hoji is right up there with my palette for tea and boba. I've tried their hojicha with their handmade boba which is better fresh, so try going early when they open. They also have a matcha latte, but man I need to come back for the hojichaw because their tea quality is brewed so well and it's definitely going on my list as one of my go-to tea spots. Wow, a very good hojicha / tea shop all the way in Redlands! I went here on the way back to LA from Palm Desert, as otherwise, their short opening hours make it quite challenging for visitors to check this place out. I got the hojicha with black sesame sea cream 16oz and added their handmade kokuto boba for 75 cents extra. Tax included, the drink was $5.50 which is a good price for the quality and comparable to other coffee shops. The hojicha is very fragrant and the black sesame did not overpower any elements of the drink. I opted half sweet which is the right level of sweetness to enjoy. The boba is on the softer side but still chewy, but it is not the usual tapioca texture that you would expect in a standard boba place. One of my regrets here is I did not get the large size (24oz) which supposedly is $1 upcharge. I got a stamp card just in case, even though it will be a very sporadic series of visits if I manage to make their opening hours going east in the I-10. read more

Redlands is not the first place I think about when seeking high-quality tea, but here we are! This place has a semi-retro Japanese vibe. Vintage cameras line the shelves, along with a CRT TV and figurines from what I assume were brought back from travels to Japan. Their stamp cards take the form of library return cards, and completed cards are posted on the wall to complete the old-school aesthetic. Given their namesake, we knew we wanted to try Hoji's hojicha drinks on our first visit. I ordered the black sesame + hojicha and my wife ordered the rose hojicha + sea cream, which were both recommended. We don't like our drinks too sweet, so we ordered them both at half sweetness, which was the right amount for our tastes. Both drinks offered a nice, well-balanced roasted flavor. The black sesame hojicha had a good nuttiness, whereas the rose hojicha was delightfully floral but not too overpowering. The menu doesn't have prices for some reason, but I remember the drinks being reasonably priced, especially when compared to other places in LA or OC. Of course, I've been on a hojicha fix every since and sadly I couldn't find it anywhere except when Hoji popped up on my yelp suggestions. Thank you yelp algorithms! Hoji is located in an industrial plaza and can be easily missed. The decor is old school vintage and the shop is very small. Its more of a grab your drink and go, but there are tables outside. The menu offers hojicha, Assam, Thai and various other teas with whipped flavored cream on top. Don't skip out on the cream because it adds a nice flavor to the tea. I ordered the black sesame hojicha and it was the best drink I've ever had here in the states! I came back and ordered the Thai tea with boba and that was also top notch. Their sea cream seems to be a fan favorite! My order this visit was the Hojicha with Sea Cream! I was hesitant since I'm not crazy about roasted green tea... but I was impressed. This place is seriously so interesting and fun! I came here with my friends while we were in the area and I'm really glad I did. Right off the bat, the interior really entertained me. It's extremely well-decorated and full of fun stamp cards and knick knacks that give the space a lot of personality. Even though the inside of the cafe is pretty small, I wanted to stick around inside just to take in everything on the walls and shelves. The people working were incredibly kind and made great drinks! I ordered a barley tea with sea cream; not many places make barley tea drinks anymore so I knew I had to try it. Plus, sea cream has never failed me so why not add it to my drink? It turned out to be a great decision. The drink was pleasant in the best way and the boba was a nice addition. Love the creative drinks here, I've been to a lot of boba places and have yet seen anything quite this creative. They also make their own boba which is so good and slightly chewy. The people here are really nice and welcoming, and seem passionate about they do. I heard about this place a couple weeks ago but it wasn't until recently that I decided to give it a try with a friend. I heard that the quality was very good and that they hand make their boba, which is pretty impressive. I almost missed where the store was located in the plaza, my friend located their small sign out front. The boba shop interior is pretty small, it had a few stools against the wall. Luckily we came at the perfect time, there was a small line forming behind us. Only a handful of people came in after us, like 3, and the line was pretty much to the door. Despite the small space, I loved the vintage decorations. It gave a cool vibe. Also their stamp card is the CUTEST thing. As a reader, I loved how their stamp card resembled those check in/check out logs within books. It was so creative, I just had to rave about it because of how cute it was. My friend got the iced matcha latte and I asked the cashier what their most popular drink was, which is the Hojicha sea cream. The sea cream was described to be like a cheese or salted foam on top. I decided to give it a try at 50% sugar with the boba pearls and wow, I was just blown away. The hoji tea flavor was flavorful and combined so well with the sea cream. Boba consistency was chewy and tasted good. Service was fast. I don't even think I asked for less ice, which I usually do everywhere else, and the ice level was just where I like it. If you told me that this place was somewhere in the 626, more Pasadena leaning or even somewhere more bougie, I'd believe you 100%, especially since Japanese tea places, milk tea or otherwise, have traditionally been in those areas and anywhere else...well you'd be lucky to have something that's not a chain or attached to a restaurant or bakery. So when I heard that Hoji was in Redlands, I knew I had to try! When I went they had some of their limited stock baked goods, so I got some cookies as well. Both were soft cookies that went great with milk tea. Definitely follow their social media. We got the: 1) Strawberry Matcha Latte Cookies with toasted milk powder: -Sweet, but not too sweet, the taste of the strawberry alongside the toasted milk powder balanced out the matcha. -At first I thought they baked in the sugar at the top of the cookie, but since it didn't taste burnt and much more palatable, I realized that it had to be something else (the milk powder of course!). -I'm used to having strawberry matcha as a beverage but never as a cookie, so this was a great, sweet treat. 2) Vegan Sourdough Chocolate Chip cookie: -Super interesting texture and definitely had more chewiness than what I'm used to for soft baked chocolate chip cookies. Really neat that it's vegan too boot. -It is a big grainy in texture as well, but nothing unpleasant, just different from what I've had in the past. Nice sizeable chocolate chips dispersed evenly throughout the cookie itself. 3) Assam Black Tea with Sea Cream: -The tea leaves are from India. -It's a barley tea with the sea salt cream on top. -I got this with adjusted sweetness and the slight saltiness of the sea cream, along with the added creamy texture afterwards was really yummy. It's something similar to what I've ordered at 7 Leaves, but higher quality and much more of a prominent, but not overpowering tea taste. 4) Mizudashi Hojicha: -It's a roasted green tea with handmade kokuto black sugar boba. -Since this place is named Hoji, this drink is a MUST, especially with getting it with their unique kokuto black sugar boba, something that I have never had or at least heard of beforehand. -The boba is definitely a bit more tender and less chewy than the standard boba that I've had at other places and the black sugar is nicely flavored throughout and has a slight crème brulee toasted taste to it. Another MUST even if you don't usually order boba. -The hojicha itself also had a nice subtle roasted taste to it with the green tea leaves. If I had this more accessible to me, I'd be ordering it each time if I could. If you're a Redlands being or if you're in the area, for sure something you gotta try! read more

Located in the same plaza as Escape Brewery, this tea shop is pretty tucked away in that there's no large sign above their location (look for the floor sign out front). They have a limited (but good) selection of teas to choose from and they make their own boba! What I thought was cool about their boba is that the boba isn't round. They're more of a square/rectangle-ish shape and much better tasting than your average boba shop. I definitely recommend. Orders: Barley + Sea Cream: I LOVE barley tea and this was my favorite menu item by far. Great barley tea flavor, nice saltiness from the cream, and delicious boba to top it off. Matcha latte: Made with oat milk and high-quality matcha. Make sure you mix well before drinking. This was both rich and refreshing. 2nd favorite thing I've tried here. Hojicha + Sea Cream: The tea flavor wasn't very strong, so I wasn't much of a fan. Probably wouldn't order this one again. I've been going back to try the Assam, but they've been out of stock. The salted Thai seems to be popular as well, but you can't adjust the sweetness on that one - so I haven't tried it. Overall, a solid experience.
