I have been here only once. I would have given this MATCHA CAFE 5 stars but they HAD NO MATCHA. Now, I understand there is some sort of MATCHA SHORTAGE but, if they would have displayed that on their window like "No Matcha Until xyz" then that would have been fine. Anyway, I got the thai tea and it was very sweet. If I am having an especially sweet tooth then I would get it again, but not my usual order. The staff was friendly, polite, patient, and they explained and recommended some things on the menu. There is plenty of parking however, this is not a sit down to study cafe. Stumbled upon this boba shop while on the way back from a Big Bear trip and the drinks here are sooo good!! I tried their Miyazaki Hojicha with Salted Cream at 75% sugar. Their tea is strong and flavorful, and when I mixed my drink, the cream added some milky-ness which I liked. I loved the roasted flavor from the hojicha and you could tell it was quality tea. We also tried Miyazaki Hojicha with Black Sesame Cream, which was delicious with the black sesame that paired well with the drink. We also tried the Nilgiri Organic tea which was refreshing and light. The inside decor has very retro Japanese-theme vibes. It's very small inside and they have a few tables outside if you want to hang out. I think it's more of a grab and go type of place. It was a little difficult to find since they don't have a sign on their building, but we were able to find the sign on the door. Located in a pretty nondescript and unassuming looking business plaza, Hoji is by itself, a shop that has a lot of character - in addition to having GREAT drinks - despite its pretty small size. We had the Black Sesame + Hojicha with homemade Japanese boba that was absolutely wonderful. It was sweet without being too sweet and the boba was really soft to chew. The Hojicha + Oat was also great too...it had all the deliciousness of a great milk tea but with much less guilt of drinking something potentially fattening. And to see a drink priced at a little more or less than $5 depending on what it was, almost brought a tear to my eye but I am going to guess lower costs of running a business in this area is a contributing factor. Hoji's use of traditional looking library cards not just as stamp cards but also to adorn its walls with hand drawn anime art was also really creative and a welcome sight for an otaku like yours truly to see. Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got to make my way down to Redlands. They have very unique Hojicha options that I've never had before. I got the Hojicha + sea cream with boba and I really liked it. The boba is really good and different from the typical tapioca pearls. The matcha latte with oat milk was not bad. I've been looking forward to this trip to Redland just to visit Hoji! There was plenty of parking when we arrived, though it's easy to miss since it's tucked away in a plaza filled with other businesses. But as soon as we walked in, we were blown away by the unique decor! The interior has a retro, pop-city Japan vibe, with quirky and eye-catching decorations everywhere. We ordered the Nilgiri Sea Cream with their handmade Kobuto boba and a Matcha Americano. Both drinks were incredible! My partner, who usually isn't a fan of boba, is now a convert thanks to Hoji. Love this place, their hojicha tea is the very best in the area! I'm not of a fruit tea person but I always make an exception for this. It's so creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. Guys, go here for the hojicha drinks not the matcha! I think I have now tried a good variety of the menu, and will say that its creamy hojicha drinks really amount to their name. The matcha drinks here don't really stand out and are still quite milky to me. BUT they're honestly better than most places around (and the color is so pretty). I am also one to believe that quality boba pearls can literally make or break a coveted spot. This place feels unique due to the globular shape of the boba and its perfectly gummy texture. We were passing through the area on our way to Palm Springs. My daughter was very excited to try this new tea shop that didn't exist while she lived in the area for 4 years. My favorite tea spot! I started coming here not too long after it opened. Honestly, I've probably tried most of their menu, since I'm a tea lover. You really can't go wrong with anything that you order. Absolutely the best strawberry matcha oat that I've tried anywhere. Since they launched this, it's usually my go-to now. All other teas from here, I usually go with 50% sweet (for preference)- even at its fullest sweet, it's not super sweet like other places. Boba is fresh and all drinks taste pure, organic like. Nothing artificial. It's very small inside, and expect to wait a bit, but worth it. If they ever expand, it would be wonderful to be able sit and to do some work in here. Stopped in redding for a lunch break on a road trip and came across this spot on yelp. And as a matcha and tea lover I had to stop by. The location is kind of hidden in an industrial area but there is tons of parking which is great! The cafe itself is very small with only a couple stools inside, and a few tables outside so its not a place to hang out in the summer but the drinks are worth it. This matcha was by far one of the best matcha lattes i've ever had. It is hand whisked to order and comes with oat milk by default, and not too sweet which allows the matcha flavors to shine. The handmade boba was a nice texture but had irregular shapes which made it a little hard for it to go through the straw. The salted thai was good but too sweet for my personal liking.
