This was our first use of H&L for engineering service. Couple of problems lead to this low score. As the manager of the building who interacted with the firm, I had to go twice to pick up drawings. the first set lacked needed notes; thankfully I looked at the drawings before leaving with them. so only one extra trip to get the notes added version of the drawings. When the work started, it turned out there was an obvious sag in the ceiling which necessitated, of course, extra time by and therefore cost for both contractor and engineer. I understand opening a wall to find out what can't be seen from the outside, but had the engineer actually looked at the job site, the extra $1000 could have been avoided. To me it would have been the same if the extra work had cost $5 - 10,000 or more. Seems a 'billable hour' setup like a lawyer. Right, the contract says they go from drawings and assume things, so they have covered their lack of due diligence. I'm just saying 'watch out'. The owner will not use this firm again. read more
